창살을 주제로 조형화 한 도벽연구

Abstract

우리 민족은 다른 어떤 나라보다도 고유의 멋을 지니고 있다. 이런 우리 고유의 멋은 빛나는 조형적 유산을 통해서 나타나는데 근래에 와서는 이런 한국의 정서와 이미지를 새롭게 표현하려는 움직임이 조형작품을 통해서 많이 보여지고 있다. 여기에 환경조성에 이바지하고 있는 도벽이 아직 타일 종류가 대부분이고 독창적인 도벽의 개발은 부진한 실정이다. 본 연구는 이러한 전통의 새로운 재인식으로써 한국의 조형 양식중 하나인 창살문양을 조형적 관점에서 연구하여 도벽으로 형상화하고자 하였다. 그러므로 본 연구의 목적은 창살문양의 고유의 멋을 현대감각에 어울리도록 도벽으로 조형화함으로써 환경의 질적 수준을 향상시키고 우리 전통을 새롭게 인식해 보고자 한다. 이론적 배경으로는 도벽의 전반적인 고찰과 창살문양의 의미와 역사, 형태별 분류를 통하여 우리 민족의 정서를 조형화시켜 도벽 작품으로 접근시켜보고자 한다. 또한 창살에서 나타난 조형미와 우리 선조들의 미의식을 새로운 도벽 작품 제작에 재조명해 보고자 하였다. 한편 안타깝게도 본 연구의 대상이 되는 창살문양을 응용한 도벽작품은 아직 미비한 상태로 자료가 불충분하여 비슷한 예를 가진 작품들을 제시할 수 없게 되었다. 따라서 본 연구자는 더욱 더 우리의 전통적인 것을 재창조하여 현대적인 것에 활용해 우리만의 독창적인 도벽을 제작해 나가야 겠다고 생각하였다. 작품의 표현 방법은 분류된 창살문양을 기본형태로 하여 창살의 전체적 구성을 한국적인 멋과 선을 살려서 조형화시키는데 중점을 두어 표현하였다. 작품제작 방법은 석고원형을 이용한 이장주입기법(泥漿注入技法)과 압축기법(壓軸技法)으로 하였으며, 태토는 백색자기토와 뮬라이트(Mullite)토를 사용하였다. 그리고 모든 작품은 전기가마에서 850℃로 1차소성한 뒤에 각 작품의 특성에 따라 시유를 분무법과 담금법으로 하였으며, 2차소성은 「작품 9」를 제외하고 가스가마에서 1,250℃로 환원소성하였다. 「작품 9」는 전기가마에서 1,260℃로 산화소성하였다. 이상에서와 같이 본 연구자는 창살을 도벽으로 조형화함으로써 우리 전통에 대한 새로운 인식의 기반을 마련해보고 조형적 소재로서 제시, 발전을 기대하였으며, 한국적인 조형의식을 통해서 작품을 창조해 나가는 작가의 정신과 태도를 바탕으로 형태를 발전시켜 보다 우리 환경에 밀접하고 가까운 환경도자로서의 기능을 조금이나마 담당해 보고자 노력해 보았다.;Our people, Koreans, have a more peculiar, unique charm than any other countries. Our peculiar charm has been represented through our glorious plastic legacies, and recently a movement to newly express our emotion and image can be seen in many peices of plastic work. However, the wall sculpture contributive to the formation of good environment depends mostly on kinds of tiles, and therefore it is a reality that the development of original wall sculpture is dull and stagnant. Therefore, the purpose of the present study is, by making the peculiar charm of the lattice pattern plastic for that to meet modern sense, to improve the qualititive level of environment and recognize our tradition anew. For theoreticial context, through understanding the general concept of wall sculpture and reviewing the significance and history of the lattice pattern, it is intended to make our people's emotion or sentiment plastic, and thereby approach to production of some works of wall sculpture. Also, it is intended to review closely the characteristics and plastic beauty of the lattice pattern in each form of the lattice pattern, respectively so that such a research can be come reference for new production of the works of wall sculpture. In the expressional method, based on the basically classifed attice patterns, it is intended to focus on the expression of Korean unique charm and lines in the whole composition. In the production method, two methods - slip casting method which employs a gypsum mold and pressing technique - were used. For clay, While Pocelain clay and Mullite clay are used in this study. All the pieces of work were firstly baked in an electric kiln in a temperature of 850℃, and coated tv a spraying method and a dipping method, and secondly oxidizingly baked in a kiln whose fuel is gas at 1250℃ except for 9 pieces of work. The 9 pieces of work was baked in an electric kiln at 1260℃. As seen so far, this researcher has given sincere effort to providing the base of new recognition of our tradition with a mind to suggest the lattice pattern to be used for a plastic subject matter and develop it, so that the lattice pattern may be some help for better wall sculpture that will be contributive to better environment.
