조립식에 의한 한글문자체 개발에 관한 연구

Abstract

오늘날의 시대는 비행기가 소리보다 빨리날고 화성에까지 로케트를 쏘아 올리고 글자도 전자의 힘으로 1분에 수천자가 찍혀 나온다. 이렇듯 과학 기술이 보내는 정보나 지식은 물밀듯이 밀려온다. 그리고 한자 문화의 세대와 일본 문화의 세대가 지나고 이제 순수 한글 세대가 다가오며 매스 커뮤니케이션( Mass communication ) 시대, 기계화 시대, 정보 시대를 맞이하여 커뮤니케이션의 효율적 수단으로써 경제, 사회, 문화의 효과적인 정보 보존및 활용의 수단으로써 문자는 필수 불가결한 문제로 대두 되므로 문자에 대한 연구는 더욱더 다양한 방향에서 그 형태가 연구 되어져야 할 뿐 만 아니라 시대에 맞고 합리적이고 신속한 문자 조형이 요구되고 있다. 따라서 한글 문자체도 이러한 시대적 요청을 배제 할 수 없기 때문에 새롭고 합리적인 문자체를 요구한다. 문자체를 기능별로 크게 구분하면 돋보임용 글자로 인쇄매체의 제목글자, 또는 상점앞의 전시용 입체글자인 디스플레이 타이프( Dis-play Type )와 줄거리용 글자로 주로 작은 활자로 만들어지며 특히 가독성이 높아야하는 바디 타이프( Body Type )로 나뉠 수 있는데 이 두가지 모두 연구해야 했으나 본 논문에서는 한글의 다양한 개성을 표현 할 수 있는 디스플레이 타이프에 한정하며 조립식에 의한 한글 문자체 개발을 연구해 보고자 한다. 이를 위하여 Ⅱ장에서는 이론적 배경으로 한글 창제 역사와 글자 표현의 관점에서 한글의 변천에 관하여 알아보며 또한 한글이 갖고 있는 한글의 조형적 요소적 특성에 관하여 검토하고 Ⅲ장에서는 한글 디스플레이 타이프의 현황과 조립식 한글 문자체를 위한 한글 현황에 대하여 알아보며 현대 사회에서의 한글의 문제는 무엇인가에 대해 매스커뮤니케이션 사회, 기계화 사회, 정보 사회, 경제 사회에 있어서의 문제점을 알아보고 Ⅳ장에서는 이러한 문제점의 해결을 위해 그 방향을 제시하였다. 즉 디자인함에 있어 기존 관념인 네모틀을 탈피하고 자음 모음의 벌수에 의해 구조를 통일시킨다. 그리고 한글 세대를 위해서나 한글 기계화를 위해 한문은 마땅히 폐지되어야 하며 가로쓰기를 전제로 디자인되어야 하고 바디 타이프 보다는 디스플레이 타이프의 개발이 우선되어야 한다. 그리하여 이를 바탕으로 가독성에 대한 단점을 최소한 줄여 자음 2벌 모음 1벌의 3벌식 조립식 한글 시작품을 제시함으로써 앞으로 한글 문자체의 개발을 위한 시도를 해 보았으며 Ⅴ장의 결론에서는 본 연구를 통해서 얻어진 조립식 한글 문자체가 한글 디스플레이 타이프의 다양한 발전을 가져오며 매스커뮤니케이션 사회, 정보화 사회, 기계화 사회, 경제 사회에서 어느 부분에든지 신속하게 적재적소에 사용될 수 있다고 본다. 본 연구가 한글이 우리 사회에서 커다란 역할을 하는 대상이 됨을 다시한번 생각하며 변화하는 사회만큼이나 앞으로도 끊임없는 한글 문자체 개발에 관한 연구에 도움이 되기 위하여 연구를 하였고 비록 바디타이프와 기계화 문제에 대해 구체적이고 충분한 진술을 하지 못했으나 후에 이들 연구를 위해서 우선 디스플레이 타이프 방향에서 바람직한 방향을 제시해 보았다.;We live in a period, in which aeroplanes flys faster than sound, human beings launch artificial satellites into space and thousands of letters can be written in a second using electric power. Day in and out, there is a massive flow of new information and news. We also see that to cope with this masscommunicative, automatic, industrial, economic society, a letter is not only one of the important means through which we be informed what we should know, but also in need of being variously developed and designed in it's shapes. In this point, HAN GUL can not be an exception recently. We can mainly distinguish the display type of letter from the body type one from the functional point of view; this is the normal type of letter describing the subject and story in a book. In this case of body type, the reading speed should be fully concerned and high. On the other hand, display type letters are visualy used at the news headline and on the sign of shops for the purpose of attractive showing off what they are talking and selling about to the public. I feel likely this time limiting my subject, the development of constructing letter system for HAN GUL only on the study of display type letter, with which I believe the unique beauty of HAN GUL can be more easily characterised. In chapter Ⅱ, I will mention the historical background of HAN GUL invention, the periodical changes in lettering and most of all, the unique formative factor of HAN GUL. Chapter Ⅲ would be the research on the recent situation and problem in using and developing the display type HAN GUL. In chapter Ⅳ, I try to suggest the way how to deal with these kinds of troubles, removing the traditional square conception (which is supposed to be a result of chinese letter influence) in design of HAN GUL. We can possibly devise a couple of different VOWEL and CONSONANT sets out of HAN GUL, which is uniformed in terms of construction like ALPHABET. To meet the periodical demands in automatic print system, it's the time we firmly insist of using only HAN HUL based on horizontal writting. I try to test an ideal method using I set of vowel and 2 sets of consonant (Full set of HAN GUL in this system) not to decrease the reading speed. Finally, we see how this constructing letter system of HAN GUL I studied for words out to achive my original purpose in Chapter Ⅴ. I wish this experimental study can be a motivation and even a little help in developing HAN GUL letter.
