우리나라 圖書館의 DDC 東洋部門展開比較 硏究

Abstract

미국의 Melvil Dewey가 1876년에 듀이십진 분류표(Dewey Decimal Classification)를 만든 이래, 1971년에 제 18판이 나오기까지 미국의 각 圖書館을 비롯하여 세계 各國의 많은 圖書館이 이 分類表를 使用하고 있으며, 우리나라에서는 國會圖書館을 비롯한 대부분의 大學圖書館에서 이 分類表를 使用하고 있다. 그러나 DDC는 앵글로 색슨 문화권에 속하는 나라, 특히 미국을 위해 만들어졌기 때문에 취급한 주제가 西歐中心으로 되어 있다. 그러므로 우리나라에서 DDC를 채용하고 있는 圖書館들은 DDC자체만으로는 불편한 점이 많으므로 DDC를 우리나라 實情에 맞게끔 고쳐서 使用하고 있다. 本 論文에서 筆著는 第1章의 緖論으로 分類表의 發達史와 DDC가 우리나라에 들어온 역사를 기술하였고 第2章에서는 理論的 背景으로 DDC의 發達史, 構造, 特徵등을 기술하였다. 또한 3章에서는 각 分類表(DDC, NDC, KDC)에서 東洋部門을 어떻게 취급하고 있는가를 살펴 보았고 第4章에서는 우리나라 각 圖書館(國會·東國大·西江大·서울大·延大·梨大)에서 使用中인 DDC 東洋部門 展開表를 각 主題別(總類, 哲學, 宗敎, 言語, 芸術, 文學, 歷史)로 比較 考察하였다. 第5章의 結論에서는 위에서 比較 硏究한 結果로써 DDC 東洋部門 展開 및 고쳐쓰기의 原則을 다음과 같이 提言하였다. 1. 일반형식구분, 어학공통구분，문학형식구분 및 그밖의 助記性을 띨 수 있는 項目은 可能한 한 DDC와 一致하도록 한다. 2. 韓國을 中心으로 東洋各國部門을 展開하되 그 위치가 가능한 한 歐美各國의 앞에 오도록 한다. 3. 韓國에 대한 번호의 길이는 가급적 서양 주요국과 동등하게 짧게 해 준다. 4. 가급적 DDC의 原表의 原則아래 修正해서 고쳐쓰는 方向으로 한다.;Since the introduction of Melvil Dewey＇S Decimal Classification (DDC) in 1876 to present 18th edition (1971), the classification schedule has been used not only in the United States but also in the libraries of many other countries throughout the world. Many Korean the libraries have also adopted this classification schedule. However, the DDC system was originally belong to Anglo-Saxon cultural sphere, it was, therefore, inevitable that the accomodation of the subject tended to be western-culture oriented, One might expect those Korean libraries which have adopted DDC system have experienced many inconveniences due to the over-clouded classification schedule, and therefore, great effort in modifying the DDC system in order to make them more acceptable to our library systems. In the present study, the author has attempted to make a comparative studies of modified DDC system in korea. An introduction, the chapter Ⅰ describes a brief history of classification schedule as well as historical review of the introduction of DDC system in korea. The chapter Ⅱ is mainly concerned with the critical(theoritical) analysis. of the development of DDC system, its structure, characteristics, etc. In the chapter Ⅲ the emphasis is given to the question of how each classification schedule (DDC, NDC, KDC) deals with the oriental section. the comparative studies are made in chapter Ⅳ with respect to their subject classification (general works, philosophy, religion, language, art, literature, history) based on the expansion tables of oriental section in DDC which are used in various Korean libraries (National Assembly Library, Dongguk University Library, Sogang University Library, Seoul National University Central Library, Yonsei University Central Library, Ewha Woman University Library) In concluding the present study, the author has proposed in chapter Ⅴ a few underline principles for the expansion and modification of oriental section in DDC: 1. Form division, language subdivision, literature subdivision and other mnemonic aids should be described as close as to its original DDC system; 2. Oriental section should be described in terms of Korean section as their axis, and its location should placed in precedence of western section; 3. The numerical length on Korean section should be as short as possible like in the case of other western countries; 4. The modification of the oriental section numbers should he based on the principle of original DDC system
