한국 가면을 응용한 의상디자인 연구

Abstract

The purpose of this study lies in connecting our traditional clothes and western modern ones by consisting of the clothes applying Korean Masks. These days we are inclined to be a world citizen in the country of the earth and have a tendency to avoid the terms of nation, nationality and tradition. However, we can not be a member of the world citizens or take a charge of a part of world culture in a true sense without the traditional culture and independence of our nationality. In the viewpoint that our nation is being embossed as Korea in the world especially after 88 Olympics, we are compelled to feel the sense of responsibility that we should succeed to and preserve our traditional culture. Therefore, there have been efforts to recover our traditional culture in every area. The area of clothes is not the exception of the phenomena and so several designers have presented clothes works use traditional things as materials. The purpose of this study are to harmonize our traditional things with modern clothes by producing clothes which make the most of our traditional culture and to pursue the value of clothes as new and various modeling arts. I choee "Korean masks" called the face of Korea as a motive of my work and I investigated the theoretical background of masks. While most studies on masks have been accomplished in the folkore and Korean literature aspects. I concentrated on the modeling and esthetic peculiarities of masks and tried to organize a new style of clothes by expressing the peculiarities, intrinsic humor and symbolic meanings in my works of clothes. The total number of works are 12 of actual sizes and diverse materials such as lustrous silk, soft chiffon, leather, Bujikpo, wool jersey, cashmere, spangle and beads are used. I mixed practical styles of clothes giving primacy to functions with styles emphasizing the nature of modeling. I emphasized and reorganized the modeling features and various peculiarities of masks and designed the clothes of new styles and feelings.;본 논문은 한국의 가면을 응용한 의복 구성을 함으로써 전통적인 우리의 것과 서구적인 현대 의상과의 접목을 꾀하는데 목적을 둔다. 오늘의 우리는 지구촌의 세계 시민을 지향하여 민족이나 국가·전통 등의 용어를 기피하는 경향이 있기도 하나, 민족의 고유 문화와 주체성을 상실하고서는 진정한 의미의 세계 시민의 일원이 되거나 세계 문화의 일익을 담당할 수는 없다. 더욱이 올림픽 이후, 세계 속의 한국으로 부각되어 가고 있는 이 시점에서 우리는 우리의 전통 문화를 계승하고 보존해야 한다는 책임 의식을 느끼지 않을 수 없다. 그리하여 각 분야에서 우리의 전통 문화를 되찾으려는 노력을 보이고 있으며, 이러한 현상은 의상에 있어서도 예외가 될 수 없어서 몇몇 디자이너들에 의해 전통적인 것들을 소재로 한 의상 작품들이 발표되어져 왔다. 본 연구에서는 이러한 우리의 전통문화를 살릴 수 있는 의상을 제작함으로써 전통적인 우리의 것과 현대 의상과의 조화를 꾀하고, 이를 통해 새롭고 다양한 조형예술로서의 의상의 가치추구에 목적을 두었다. 작품의 모티브는 한국의 얼굴이라 부를 수 있는 「한국의 탈」로 선정하고, 작품의 제작의 앞서 탈의 이론적인 배경을 살펴보고, 이제까지 탈에 대한 연구가 민속학적·국문학적 측면에서 실시되어온 것과는 달리, 탈이 가지는 조형성과 미학적인 특성에 대해 더욱 가치를 두어, 이러한 특성들과 그 속에 내재된 해학성과 상징적인 의미를 의복에 표현하므로써 새로운 스타일의 복식 구성을 시도해 보았다. 작품의 총수는 실물제작 12점이며 광택이 있는 공단과 부드러운 느낌의 쉬폰, 그 밖에 가죽, 부직포, 울저지, 캐시미어, 그리고 스팡클과 구슬 등의 다양한 소재를 사용하였다. 작품의 제작은 기능을 위주로 한 실용적인 의상과 또한 그러한 분야에서 벗어난 조형성을 강조한 스타일을 병행하여 제작 하였으며, 탈이 지니는 조형적인 특성과 여러가지 특징들을 강조하고 재 구성하여서 새로운 형태와 느낌의 의상을 디자인 하였다.
