George Balanchine에 관한 硏究

Abstract

永遠하고 深奧한 감정 전달의 매체로 인류와 起源을 같이해 온 무용이 독자의 체계와 형식을 갖춘 예술로 인정받게 된 것은 극히 최근의 일이다. 14.5세기때 볼 수 있었던 무언극·가면극·막간극 등에서 기원한 Blallet는 Rena´issance 전성기에 생긴 새로운 예술로 루이 14세의 실질적 참여에 힘입어 급속히 발전하였고 급기야는 19세기 초 Ballet의 황금기를 이루었다. 그러나 Ballet Romantic 이 Jean Georges Noverre(1727-1810)정신을 잊고 지나치게 환상적인 Spe´ctacle에 기울어져 전체적, 예술적인 효과보다는 主役무용수만을 빛나게 하는 오류를 범하게 되면서 부터 그토록 위세당당하던 Ballet는 19세기 막판에 이르자 황혼이 깃들기 시작했다. 이러한 퇴조에 있어 새로운 것을 追究하는 인간의 속성에 충동이 일기 시작했으며 20세기의 새로운 Ballet정립을 위한 일련의 움직임이 대두되었다. 이 가운데 특히 현대 미국의 Ballet계에 큰 영향을 미친 지보적 인물로 George.Balanchine을 꼽을 수 있다. Russia에서 태어나 Russia적인 고전 체제아래 자라난 그는 20세기 Ballet역사상 가장 위대한 안무가중의 한사람이며 New York City Ballet의 창설자이자 예술감독자였다. 10살때 Russia Ballet Imperial school에 입학하여 1921년 졸업때까지 19세기 Russia의 Imperial이 Re´pertory에 들어있던 여러편의 학생 공연에서 출연과 안무를 담당했고 Russia를 떠나 Diaghilev의 실질적인 Ballet Russes에서 예술적으로 성숙한 Balanchine은 1934년 Lincoln.Kirstein의 초청으로 미국에 건너와 American Ballet school을 창설했으며 New York city Ballet를 예술의 전당으로 성장시켰다. Balanchine작품의 전형은 전통성을 혁신의 기초로삼아 과감한 변혁을 꾀하려 했던 것에서 찾을 수 있으니 무엇보다 그는 Ballot에서의 안무를 독립적인 예술로 승화시켜 안무가로서의 위대한 재능을 확인시켜 주었다는데 있다고 해야 하겠다. 本 論文은 Balanchine의 생애와 그가 이룩해 놓은 수 많은 공적들을 연구하고 그가 미국 Ballet에 공헌한 업적을 분석하여 그 역사적 의의를 正位하려는데 그 의의가 있다. 연구결과를 종합해 보면 첫째. 1909년 Serge Diaghilev(1872-1929)를 중심으로 구성된 Ballet Russes는 20세기 Ballet의 기틀을 확고히 하였고 Modern Ballet의 이정표로서 뿐 아니라 모든 예술에 있어서 개척자적인 역할을 담당하여 새로운 의미의 Ballet음악을 발생시켰으며 특히 Diaghilev의 혁신사상을 이어받은 Balanehine은 Ballet Russes의 최종 Ballet Master로서 미국 문화발전에 위대한 공헌을 했고 또 Ballet계를 대표하는 인물이 되었다는 點. 둘째. 무용을 으뜸 요소로 강조하여 누구보다 Ballet의 안무를 독립적인 하나의 예술로 발전시켰을 뿐 아니라 그가 이룩한 신고전주의·Comic Ballet·추상주의 등 다양한 Style을 미국 Ballet에서 定立시켰다는 點으로 要約된다.;Through dance one's deepest feelings are conveyed and implanted in the heart of those who see it. This form of expression, which had begun be fore man's recorded his tory, has only recently been established as an individual art. Ballet, having been seen its origin in the 14th and 15th century's, Pantomimes. Masques and interludes and rapidly grown during the Renaissance as a new art form under the supervision of Louis XIV has met its golden era in the first half of the 19th Century. But, Romantic Ballet ignoring J.G. Noverre's Spirit, became just a dreamy spectacle. That is, instead of the artistic effect as a whole it only emphasized the part played by leading dancers such a mistake has made so highly spirited Ballet in the later part of the 19th Century, start to decay. In this downfall era, dancers started to see for something new and a series of movements to restore Ballet became apparent in the 20th Century. Of all the movement in this direction, the most noticeable one was evident in America where George. Balanchine has made the greatest achievement. Born and raised in Russia, Balanchine became one of the most greatest choreographer in the 20th Century. He founded the New York city Ballet and led its artistic director. At the age of 10, Balanchine entered the Imperial Ballet school and graduated from that school in 1921. During this period he performed in many of the imperial repertory as well as student performances. After leaving Russia be went to the legendary "Ballet Russes" of Diaghilev, which he had established his artistic achievement. In 1934 he was invited by Lincoln kirstein to America, where he established the American Ballet School and fostered the New York city Ballet to a Sanctuary of arts. An important contribution made by Balanchines lay in the bold reforms based on the traditional structure. Above all, his contribution to the enhancement of Ballet choreograph shows what great genuinity he has as a choreographer. The present study is mainly about Balancine's life and the many achievements he has made in the history of Dance, more specifically in terms of choreography. By way of liferature survey, an attempt was made to analyse the significance of his contribution to the American Ballet. Based on the reviews of related literature in sum the following conclusions are drawn: 1. "Ballet Russes" organized in 1909 by Serge de Diaghilev not only laid the solid foundation for Ballet in the 20century, but also served as the turn point for modern ballet, and it also became a monumental in all arts, and added a new meaning to the Ballet music. Balanchine who succeeded to Diaghilev's revolutionary thoughts and became the last Ballet Master of "Ballet Russes" contributed much to the development of American Ballet and became a distinguished figure in the world of Ballet. 2. By emphasizing dance as the most important factor not only did he established Ballet choreography as an independent art, but also constituted the American Ballet by accompliching abstractionism, Neo-classism, comic Ballet and many other styles with diversity.
