지리수업에서 NIE를 활용한 교수-학습방법 연구

Abstract

정보화 사회로의 발달은 지식의 축척보다 활용능력을 요구하고 있다. 지리교육에 있어서도 교과서의 내용을 중심으로 한 단편적인 지식이나 사실의 주입보다는 학습자의 능동적인 사회인식과 사회적 행동을 강조하는 방향으로 전환되고 있다. 이에 신문활용교육은 학습자 중심의 교육으로서의 전환에 큰 기여를 할 수 있는 교육방법이다. 또한 신문은 살아있는 교과서로 다양한 정보를 제공해 주고, 교과서 하나만을 학습교재로 사용하는 것이 아니라 우리 주변에서 쉽게 구할 수 있는 신문자료를 교수-학습의 자료로 활용함으로써 학생들의 학습의욕을 향상시킬 수 있다. 따라서 본 연구의 목적은 첫째, 지리교육에서 신문활용의 필요성을 고찰해 보고, 둘째, 지리교과에서 신문을 활용할 수 있는 교수-학습방법을 모색해보며, 셋째, 실제 수업현장에서 신문활용수업을 적용해 봄으로서 성취도를 분석하여 학생들의 학습의욕과 학업성취도에 어느 정도 효과가 있는지를 살펴봄으로서 지리수업에 있어서 신문을 활용한 효과적인 수업방법을 제시하고자 하는데 있다. 이러한 연구목적을 달성하기 위해 신문의 특징과 교육적 효과를 살펴보았으며, 지리교과에서 신문을 활용할 수 있는 방법을 살펴보고, 신문을 활용한 수업 방법을 제시하였다. 또한 수업효과를 분석하기 위해 기존의 강의식 수업방법을 이용한 비교반과 신문활용수업을 이용한 실험반의 학생반응과 성취도를 분석하였다. 실험반의 수업은 토의학습을 이용한 신문활용 수업을 통해 수업현장에 직접 적용하여 수업효과를 분석하였다. 연구의 결과 다음과 같은 결론을 내리게 되었다. 첫째, 연구자료를 통해 신문을 활용한 교육은 살아있는 지식의 습득과 학습동기 유발, 논리적 비판적 사고력 향상, 자기주도학습능력 강화에 교육적 효과를 얻을 수 있는 교수-학습방법 중 하나이다. 둘째, 지리수업에 있어 신문을 활용한 교수-학습방법을 제시함으로서 수업의 흥미를 높이고 수업효과를 증대시킬 수 있다. 셋째, 신문활용수업은 과제탐구, 토론중심의 수업진행을 통해 학습자의 흥미와 집중도를 증진시켰으며 왕성한 학습활동을 유발시킨다. 또한 수업의 흥미 및 이해와 시사문제에 대한 관심, 학습문제를 해결하는데 도움을 줄 수 있다. 넷째, 신문활용수업은 일반수업보다 학업성취도 향상에 더 효과적이다. 수업 효과를 분석하기 위해 실험수업 후 성취도 평가를 실시한 결과 실험반 학생들의 전체평균이 비교반 학생들보다 높게 나타났으며, 이를 통해 신문활용수업이 기존의 강의식 수업보다 효과가 있다는 것을 알 수 있다. 따라서 NⅠE를 활용한 지리수업은 지리적인 정보를 수집하고 인간과 자연과의 관계라는 지리적인 개념을 습득하고 세계적 시야를 넓혀주는데 효과적인 교수-학습방법으로 활용하는 것이 바람직하다. 또한, 신문활용교육은 주변의 다양한 체험을 바탕으로 스스로 문제를 해결해 나갈 수 있는 창의적인 교수-학습 방법이라고 말할 수 있으며 이러한 방법을 앞으로 더욱 활성화시키는 것이 바람직하다.;The development into the information society requires not so much the pure cumulation of knowledge as the proper use of knowledge. In geography education, we must turn our eyes from cramming pure knowledge and facts to putting emphasis on learners' active recognition of society and social behavior. In this context, the paper in education is one of the methods for enhancing students' learning appetite and improving learning faculty, turning away from teacher-oriented teaching and learning method. The objectives of this research are as follows. Firstly, the necessities of using the newspaper in geography class are examined. Secondly, the teaching-learning methods using NIE in geography class are explored. Thirdly, researcher wanted to suggest the effective teaching method using NIE by proving that the NIE enhances pupil's learning appetites and the level of achievement in actual classes. For this research goal, researcher examined the newspapers' features and educational effects, searched for the method of using the newspapers in geography classes, and presented that method of utilizing the newspapers. In addition, to analyze the teaching effect, researcher compared the level of achievement between the comparative class(utilizing conventional lecture-only method) and the experimental class(utilizing NIE). In experimental class, researcher made use of the discussion method and NIE. Research comes to the following conclusions. Firstly, NIE is one of the teaching-learning methods to find living knowledge, motivate learning appetite, and enhance logical, critical thinking and the spontaneous learning ability. Secondly, NIE in geography class boosts interest in classes and increases effectiveness. Thirdly, NIE augments learners' interest and concentration through the exploration of the topics and discussion, bringing about the vigorous learning activities. And, NIE makes it possible for pupils to have interest in classes and current affairs, and solve the problem in learning voluntarily. Fourthly, NIE is more effective than normal class is. That the pupils in experimental class got higher scores than the pupils in comparative class did confirmed this belief. Therefore, it will be desirable to utilize NIE as the effective teaching-learning method in collecting geographical information, picking up the concept of relation between human and nature, and broadening the view of world. This research presents the teaching method using the newspapers for solving the problem of geography education and providing the broad range of materials.
