현대 태피스트리(Tapestry) 기법을 응용한 복식디자인 연구

Abstract

대량생산에 의해 표준화된 삶을 살고 있는 현대인들은 획일화에서 탈피하여 예술성, 독창성, 고부가가치를 추구하는 경향이 뚜렷해지고 있다. 그리하여 예술가나 디자이너들은 창의적인 표현수단을 찾기 위해 끊임없는 실험과 작업을 추구함으로써, 현대예술 전반에 걸쳐 소재와 기법을 공유하며, 미적 표현영역을 확대시켜나가고 있다. 이러한 변화는 60년대 이후 급격히 나타나기 시작했으며, 변화하는 시대에 맞추어 복식에서도 전통적인 수공예 기법을 응용하려는 시도가 끊임없이 보여지고 있다. 그 중 태피스트리는 인간문화 발달과 밀접한 연관성을 지니고 있으며, 시각적, 촉감적 질감의 표현이 다채로움을 갖는 이유에서 미술의상에 활용되고 있다. 본 연구는 전통 태피스트리에 나타나는 기법의 특성과 조형미를 이해하고 소재의 질감과 색채를 다각적으로 응용하여 의상소재로서의 기능성과 심미성의 창출 가능성을 모색하는 동시에 현대 복식디자인에 활용하여 복식디자인 표현영역을 확대, 제시함을 목적으로 한다. 이를 위한 연구과정으로 태피스트리의 개념, 역사, 기법의 특성에 대해 알아보고, 현대 예술과 패션을 리드하는 서구의 사례를 중점적으로 살펴봄으로써, 수공예 직물의 산업화의 가능성을 탐색하였다. 이러한 연구를 토대로 태피스트리 기법의 분석과 응용, 표현 방법에 있어서 소재의 선택과 조합 과정을 통해 독창적인 디자인으로서의 가능성을 모색한 의상디자인 8작품을 제작하였으며, 연구의 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 소재의 개발은 새로운 기술과 함께 디자인 개발에 새로운 원동력이 된다. 태피스트리 소재가 지니는 독특한 표현방식을 의상디자인에 활용함으로써, 고부가가치를 창출 할 수 있음을 확인할 수 있었다. 둘째, 태피스트리 기법을 이용하여 평면, 부조의 자유로운 조형미를 나타낼 수 있으며, 이중직기법과 슬릿을 이용한 직물에서 경사의 길이를 조정하여 입체적인 굴곡의 형태를 표현할 수 있었다. 이는 3차원적 복식소재창출의 가능성을 제시하였다. 셋째, 태피스트리는 단일요소뿐만 아니라 서로 다른 다수의 요소들을 부합시켜 보다 다양한 질감과 조형형태의 표현이 가능하다. 이러한 특성은 인체형태와의 자연스러운 연결과 독특한 장식성의 조합을 가능케 하여 복식디자인에 조형미를 극대화시킬 수 있었다. 넷째, 수공예로 제작되는 태피스트리는 같은 기법 안에서도 작가의 의도에 따라 표현이 다채로울 수 있다. 특히 다양한 재료를 적합한 기법에 응용하여 직물표면에 질감과 색채의 변화를 효과적으로 나타낼 수 있으며, 직조 기법에 있어서 패턴을 자유로이 표현할 수 있는 특성이 있어 다양한 디자인 개발의 가능성을 확인 할 수 있었다. 다섯째, 직물의 기본 형식인 태피스트리는 실용적 기능과 예술적인 역할을 다하고 있으며, 다양한 표현방법에 의해 나타나는 장식적인 가치를 지니고 있다. 이러한 태피스트리의 특성은 창의적인 소재개발에 가능성과 디자인의 조형표현을 창출 할 수 있었다. 본 연구는 의상에 사용되어지고 있는 공예직물을 재조명하고, 태피스트리의 예술적 조형성과 실용성을 연구하여 의상디자인에 활용하였다. 이러한 전통수공예 표현에서 착상된 이미지나 기법, 제작과정 등이 의상디자인에 적용되어 복식의 가치와 예술성을 높이는 계기가 되었으면 한다. 또한, 예술과 의상은 통합된 예술로서의 가치를 높이는 작업으로 계속 시도되어져, 고급화를 지향하는 현대인들의 요구에 부합되는 복식디자인의 창출을 기대한다.;The modern people who lives the life standardized by a mass production has the tendency to overcome this uniformity and pursue artistic characteristic, originality & high value-added quality. Therefore, the contemporary artists and designers attempt ceaseless experiments and works in order to search for an creative expression method in modern art. In consequence of these efforts, the modern art could hold in common the materials and the techniques, and magnify the aesthetic & artistic expression. Since 1960's this kind of movement has definitely appeared, and the application of the traditional hand-made technique in the costume design has been ceaselessly attempted. The Tapestry keeps the close relationship with the human being and the cultural advancement, and it has been applied in the fine arts costume for reasons of its variety of visual and tactual sense. This paper is written with the object of firstly, understanding the technical characteristics and the formative aesthetics of traditional Tapestry, secondly, exploration of its material & aesthetic possibility by means of application of its material feeling & color, and finally, presentation and extension of its expressive domain by means of the application in modern costume design. The contents are composed of the concept, the history, the technical characteristic of the Tapestry and the possibility of industrialization of the hand -made textile goods by means of observation of the instance of the West Europe which leads modern arts and fashion. On the basis of this way of research, 8 pieces of costume design are created, and the result of the research is as below. First, the development of materials becomes the generative power of the development of new technique & design. By means of application of the Tapestry in costume design, We could. certify that high value-added production is possible. Second, by means of application of the Tapestry, unrestricted formative aesthetics such as 3 dimensional costume material could be created. Third, the Tapestry is presented more variously with other materials. This character of the Tapestry emphasizes the formative aesthetic. Fourth, the Tapestry produced in handicrafts could be diversified by intention of the producer. This character of the Tapestry could make the development of various design possible. Fifth, the Tapestry has not only practical and artistic functions, but also decorative value by means of various expressive methods. This character of the Tapestry could make the development of creative materials possible. In this work, we reconsider the texture, the Tapestry, research its artistic formative aesthetics and practicability, and apply it in costume design. We expect that the image, technique and production process devised from traditional hand-made expression is applied and become the opportunity which raises the value and an art characteristic of costume design. Also we expect the costume design which corresponds in demand of the moderns who aim an high-quality to be created by means of works integrating art & clothing which raises the artistic value.
