A REVIEW ON THE CAUSES AND REMEDIES OF POVERTY IN NIGERIA

Abstract

나이지리아에는 많은 사람들이 도시, 시골 할 것 없이 명백한 가난속에 살고있다. 엄청난 자연 자원을 가지고 있음에도 불구하고 여전히 오랫동안 발전이 주춤거리고 있는 나라가 바로 나이지리아이다. 이 논문은 나이지리아의 빈곤의 확장과 영향, 그리고 그 원인을 보여주고자 한다. 나이지리아의 빈곤은 대부분이 낮은 교육수준과, 대가족을 형성시키는 과잉 출산, 그리고 정부의 잘못된 자원 배분에서 비롯되었다. 그 외에도 몇몇의 다른 원인들이 본문에 제시될 것이다. 비록, 과거 정부가 많은 정책과 전략들은 채택하고 그 효과를 보지 못하여 그 상태가 그대로 남아있기는 하지만, 나이지라의 빈곤은 효과적으로 줄여 나갈 수 있다. 이러한 원인들을 비추어 볼 때, 몇 몇 가능한 제안들이 이 논문에서 제시된다. 가난한 시민들을 위해서는 무엇보다도 먼저 교육과 의료혜택이 향상되어야 한다. 가족수가 줄어들면서, 정부는 정책적으로 자원 배분 능력을 향상시켜야 할것이다. 이 모든 것이 이루어지고, 정책이 실현된다면, 빈곤의 정도는 줄어들 것이며 그에 반해 나이지리아의 삶의 질은 향상이 예상된다.;In Nigeria, many people are living in abject poverty both in the urban and rural areas. A country blessed with a lot of natural resources has remained stagnant in development for years. This research unveils the causes, impact and the extent of poverty in Nigeria. Poverty is mostly caused by low level of education, over procreation which increases the size of the family and the unequal allocation of resources by the government. There are some other causes reflected in the literature review. However, poverty can be reduced effectively in Nigeria, although past governments employed a lot of strategies, and policies yet the situation remained high. In light of these causes, some possible solutions were suggested in this research. The education and health services have to be improved especially for the poor citizens. As the family is reduced, then the government will improve its' ability in allocation of resources in all the states. When this is done, and policies are implemented, then the level of poverty is expected to drop and the quality of life improved.
