패치워크 구성방법을 응용한 의상디자인 연구

Abstract

과거에서 현재에 이르기 까지 의상은 끊임없이 창작되고 발전되어 오고 있다. 그 중 신체 보호를 목적으로 천을 깁는 원시적 방법에서 출발한 패치워크는 직물의 역사와 함께 발달했으며 의상의 주요 창의적 표현기법으로 자리잡고 있다. 따라서 그 표현 방식은 현대에 이르러 평면ㆍ부조ㆍ입체등의 조형적 접근을 통한 다각적인 발전과 다양성을 갖게 되었다. 표현 모티브로서 전통적 문양을 현대적으로 재구성하기도 하며 작가의 주관적이며 창의적인 표현이 이루어지기도 한다. 또한 표현 재료를 자유롭게 활용함으로써 재질적인 효과를 증대시킨 독자적인 방법도 나타나고 있다. 본 연구의 목적은 이러한 패치워크의 기법을 의상디자인에 응용하여 기하학적인 조형미를 표현함과 동시에 혼합기법에 의한 독특한 재질감을 표출시켜 실용성 뿐만 아니라 현대인의 개성적 표현 욕구를 충족시키고, 나아가 전통적 표현 기법을 의상디자인에 접목시킴으로써 현대적인 디자인 방향의 가능성을 제시하는데 있다. 본 연구의 이론적 배경으로는 첫째, 패치워크에 대한 고찰을 통해 정확한 개념을 정립하고 우리나라와 서양 패치워크의 특성을 비교ㆍ분석하였다. 둘째, 패치워크의 기본적인 면구성 및 구성 방법에 의한 조형성을 사례조사를 통해 제시하였다. 셋째, 예술적 표현에 의한 현대 패치워크를 다양한 분야를 통해 제시했으며 의상디자인에 도입된 사례를 살펴보았다. 넷째, 디자인에 있어 재질감의 역할과 그 표현 방법을 알아보고, 의상에 나타난 다양한 재질감 표현 분석을 통해 본 작품과 기존의 패치워크 작품과의 차별성을 두었다. 본 연구의 작품 제작에 있어 디자인의 기본은 패치워크의 면구성적 조형미와 여러가지 혼합기법을 통한 재질감의 표현에 있다. 사용한 기법은 실을 경사와 위사로 배열한 후 누비거나 엮어서 일정한 패턴을 구성하는 방법과 니팅에 의해 제작된 조각들을 버튼호울스티치에 의해 연결하는 방법이다. 여기에 부조적 표면질감 효과를 높이기 위해 니트원단의 올을 풀어 그 실을 배열하는 방법과 니팅에 있어 제작 방법, 배열, 실의 재질과 굵기의 차이에 의한 다른 질감의 조각들을 연결하는 방법이 사용되었다. 이러한 패치워크와 혼합기법에 의한 질감 표현 연구의 결론은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 패치워크는 기본적인 조각잇기 방식으로 인해 일정한 절개선이 없이도 바디(body)형태에 피팅(fitting)될 수 있다는 장점을 확인할 수 있었으며 나아가 이런 장점으로 인해 창의적 구성선의 가능성을 제시할 수 있었다. 둘째, 패치워크는 단위 형태의 반복된 결합을 통해 표현적 측면에서 반복적 리듬감을 줄 수 있었다. 셋째, 패치워크는 기본 결합단위의 형태, 소재, 색상, 재질감에 따라 독특한 예술적 표현이 가능함을 알 수 있었다. 넷째, 단위 형태 내에 또 다른 혼합기법을 가미해 재질감을 표현함으로써 의상전체의 표면특성에 독특함과 다양성을 줄 수 있었으며 이를 통하여 의상의 예술적 표현증대와 고 부가가치 부여 가능성을 확인할 수 있었다. 이와 같이 본 연구에서는 질감표현 중심의 패치워크 기법에 의한 디자인 연구가 그 조형성과 예술성에 의해 고 부가가치를 지닌 의상디자인의 중요한 기법으로서 새로운 가치를 지니고 발전할 수 있는 계기가 되었으면 한다.;Dress has continuously been created and developed from the past to now, and patchwork has been advanced with the history of textile. It was started from primitive patchwork of sewing thread to protect and warm the body which has developed with history of fabric and positioned of main creative expression skill. Then, modern patchwork are advancing with various modeling characters such as plane, embossing and cubic expressions. Patterns are modernized to apply, and they are sometimes represented by an artist's subjective composition. Also, there appears a unique way of increasing the effect of material by freely using new material. The purpose of this study is to grope for the possibility of modern design direction in the future dress design, and to satisfy modern men's desire for individual expression pursuing practicality and simplify to express geometrical modeling character by applying patchwork to dress design. The theological background of this study is First, the correct concept of patchwork is established, and ow traditional patchwork and western patchwork are compared with each other through history. Second, modeling character of patchwork through the basic plane composition and its composition way are explained with examples. Third, artistic expressions presented in modern patchwork are described through various materials and related fields, and the examples of introduced dress design is also examined. Fourth, the role and expression ways of material in design are examined, and this work is tried to be differentiated from the existing patchwork. Work production for this study focuses on material expression through the modeling characteristic of patchwork plane composition and mix technique. Used techniques are that the method of constructing of uniformly patterns after warped and wefted, and the method of connecting with particles which are made by button hole stitch For the embossing surface effect of material, yam is quilted or woven to make patterns or tucked after knitted The following are the results of this study. First, the recognition of the value of patchwork in modern dress. Second, diversity followed by the use of various materials for patchwork. Third, the modeling approach of patchwork in plane design. Fourth, the possibility of the painting, realistic composition of patchwork. Fifth, the application of patchwork to other areas. As mentioned above, I hope design study through patchwork focusing on texture expression will become a good opportunity of developing into an important technique of dress design having high value added by its modeling character and artistic value.
