Abstract
In this study, the researcher developed multimedia teaching ;learning materials using. simulation and applied those to the science class. Then, the researcher investigated the effect of multimedia instruction using simulation on achievement and attitude toward science of middle school students. 'The subject of the study were 142 students of the third grade in a middle school. The researcher divided into two group. Control group was applied to traditional lecture-centered instruction while the other group, experiment group was applied to multimedia instruction using simulation. 「"The principle of Mendelian genetics" of 'heredity and evolution」 unit was taught to both group for 5 periods. Before experimental treatment, pre-test was done to the students on their achievement and attitude toward science. And pre-test about attitude toward computer was additionally done to the experiment group. After treatment, post-test was done to the student on their achievement and attitude toward science. The results of pre-test and post-test were analyzed by ANCOVA two- way ANCOVA and T-test. The results of this study are as follows. Multimedia instruction using simulation was more effective in increasing students' achievement than the traditional instruction The result of the treatment considering gender and pre-achievement level, showed that multimedia instruction using simulation was effective to both boys and girls. and also students in the inferior level. But there was no effect on students either intermediate level or superior level. There was statistically no significant difference in increasing students' attitude toward science between instructed group by multimedia using simulation and traditionally instructed group. In conclusion, considering the gender and pre-achievement level of the students, there was no difference in increasing students' attitude toward science whether boys or girls, and pre-achievement level did not affect the students' attitude toward science either. The researcher analyzed the results of students' achievement according to level of attitude toward computer among the student in the experiment group. Students who had more positive attitude showed more progression than students who had less positive attitude. Also the researcher analyzed the results of students' attitude toward science according to level of attitude toward computer among the students in the experiment group. Students who had more positive attitude showed more progression than students who had less positive attitude. Therefore, multimedia instruction using simulation, compared with traditional lecture-centered instruction, is considered to be an effective method to improve students' achievement and especially to those with more positive attitude toward computer. But, There was difficulty in improving attitude toward science with the experimental treatment for a short term.
