사회과 교과서의 사회문제 관련 내용분석 연구

Abstract

In the modern society, we have faced with complex and various kinds of problems. To work out those matters, social studies must help students develop critical thinking ability and resonable mind for solving problems. This study has close examination of contents-organisation of social problem education which are presented by many scholars. And it is made up of content-structured model plan which has much emphasis on social problem in our country. Which these foundations, I have analyzed social problem-related contents which are reflected in the textbooks of social studies. The followings are the results. First, social problems are generally reflected in the textbooks of social studies less than 10%. This is very low ratio, The proportional difference in each textbook has turned out to be very large; the ratio in the sixth is higher than in the fifth curriculum and the reflex ratio in high school is higher than in middle school. Secondly, the textbook of middle school social studies have primarily dealt with environment, population, city-related problems. The also have high proportion of human-associated and society-disjointing problems. However, the textbooks of high school social studies have mainly dealt with distributional, social disagreemental and urban problems. They also show high percentage of structural and disjointing problem patterns in society. In the third, explanation-typed presentational method was mostly used for presenting contents of social matters in both the fifth and sixth curriculum. But problem solving-typed presentational method has slightly increased in the sixth curriculum. Fourthly, the case is common that the proportion in each kind of social problems has decreased in the textbooks of high school social studies against middle school. So we can rarely discover the connection of curriculum contents between middle and high school. As we have seen from the above, current social problem education in our social studies is considerably insufficient to develop students' creative ability for solving problems. Therefore, we have to make students meet with various social problems in the textbooks and contents have to be presented in problem solving-type way. The contents will also have to be connected, intensified and extended between middle and high school. Consequently, from now on. we will have to develop social problem-centered unified curriculum in the social studies field.;점차로 복잡화, 다양화되어 가는 여러 현대사회의 문제들을 해결하기 위해서는 학생들에게 비판적 사고능력과 합리적인 문제해결능력을 길러줄 수 있도록 해야 한다. 그리고 이러한 능력은 사회과학적 지식을 바탕으로 사회를 올바르게 인식하여 효과적으로 사회에 참여할 수 있는 민주시민의 양성을 목표로 하는 사회과를 통해 길러줄 수 있다. 그러므로, 본 연구는 사회문제를 중심으로 하는 사회과 교육과정의 필요성에 따라 학자들에 의해 제시된 논쟁적 문제중심의 내용구성, 지구촌 교육을 위한 문제중심의 내용구성, 우리나라 사회문제를 중심주제로 한 내용구성등을 살펴보고 우리나라 사회문제 중심의 내용구성안을 구성하였다. 그리고 이를 바탕으로 하여 5,6차 중,고등학교 사회과 교과서에 반영된 사회문제 관련내용을 분석한 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 사회과 교과서내의 사회문제 반영 비중은 5차보다 6차 사회과 교과서가, 중학교보다는 고등학교 사회과 교과서가 높지만 전체적으로 10%미만의 매우 저조한 비율이다. 또한 교과서별로 비중의 차이도 크게 나타나고 있다. 둘째, 사회과 교과서에 반영된 사회문제를 유형별, 종류별로 분석해 보면 중학교에서는 환경문제, 인구문제, 자원문제 등의 인류공동의 문제와 도시문제, 가족문제 등 사회해체적 문제의 비중이 높았으며, 고등학교에서는 분배문제, 경제문제, 사회갈등문제 등의 사회구조적 문제, 도시문제 등 사회해체적 문제, 환경문제의 비중이 높게 나타났다. 셋째, 사회문제의 내용제시 방법은 설명식 제시방법이 5·6차 모두 거의 대부분을 차지하였으나, 6차 교육과정에서는 문제해결식 제시방법이 약간 증가하였다. 넷째, 중·고등학교 사회문제 내용의 연계성 여부를 살펴보면 중학교에 비해 고등학교 교과서의 사회문제 종류별 비중이 증가한 경우가 약 정도에 그쳐 중학교에 고등학교 사회과 교과서로 심화, 확대가 이루어지고 있다고 보기 어려웠다. 이상의 결과로 볼 때, 현재 우리나라의 사회과 교육에서 사회문제 교육내용이 차지하고 있는 비중은 학생들의 창의적인 문제해결능력을 길러주기에는 상당히 부족한 실정이다. 따라서, 사회문제를 교과서에 반영하는데 있어서 일정한 종류나 유형에 편중되지 않고 다양한 사회문제를 학생들이 접하도록 하며, 내용제시도 문제해결식 제시방법으로 개선되어야 할 것이다. 또한 중학교에서 고등학교 사회과 교과서로 내용의 연계와 심화, 확대가 이루어지도록 해야 할 것이다.
