초상을 통한 모녀 이미지 표현에 관한 연구

Abstract

시대가 흘러도 불변하는 것이 있다면 그것은 자식에 대한 어머니의 사랑일 것이다. Frued는 모성애를 모친이 자녀에게 느끼는 가장 강한 애정으로써 일생 동안 불변적(不變的)으로 지속되며 자녀가 장래에 갖는 "모든 애정 관계의 원형(原形)"이라고 지적하였다. 모성애(母性愛)는 모든 여성들이 가지고 있는 본능적(本能的) 사랑이다. 즉 어머니는 자녀가 내 자신의 일부라는 분신적(分身的) 의식(意識)에 기초하여 그 자녀들에 대해서 직접적이며 무조건적 사랑을 베푼다. 자기 분신이라는 확신이 없이 모성애는 발휘될 수 없고 이러한 본능(本能)은 포옹이나 접촉을 통해서 더욱 깊어지고 심화(深化)될 수 있다. 그 중에서도 모녀는 타인과는 다른 보다 긴밀한 애정 관계가 형성될 것이다. 어머니는 딸에게 무조건적인 애착(愛着)을 갖는다. 그것은 자신의 닮은 꼴에 대한 본능일지도 모른다. 그럼에도 불구하고 과거의 예술 작품을 보면 기독교적 영향으로 모녀보다는 모자상이 주(主)를 이루었다. 그러나 종교개혁의 타파로 성상(聖像)과 성화(聖畵)가 교회 안에서 사라지고 성모마리아나 성자들의 동상이 점차 자취를 감추게 되었다. 사진사에 있어서도 사진이 예술로서 그 가치를 인정받기 시작하면서부터 모녀를 주제로 다룬 작품들이 늘어갔다. 과거 모녀에 관한 초상 사진을 보면 회화적 심미주의로 흐르는 경향과 부정적이고 암울한 시대상을 반영하는 가족 사진들이 대부분 이였다. 그러나 본 논문은 늘어가는 미혼모(未婚母)와 베이비 수출 등 모성성을 잃어 가고 있는 현대의 삭막하고 메말라 가는 우리들의 정서에 모녀간에 유사성(類似性)과 친밀성(親密性)의 표현을 통해 모성애를 다시금 생각하게 함으로써 가슴 따뜻함과 희망적 사고를 되찾게 하고자 하는 긍정적 입장에서 시작되었다. 이것은 그간 미국 Knoxville, Tennessee라는 작은 도시에서 진행하였다. 낯선 땅에 서서 철저한 이방인으로 본 미국이라는 나라는 풍요롭고 거대해 보였지만 가도 가도 끝없는 대지와 황량함이 커다란 향수(鄕愁)를 느끼기에 충분했다. 그래서인지 보다 따스함과 사랑이 그리워졌고 이런 순수한 모녀 초상 사진을 주제로 선택하게 되었는지도 모른다. 또한 본인은 이 논문을 준비하면서 출산(出産)을 하였고 예쁜 딸을 얻었다. 그래서 더욱 이 주제에 진지하게 접근할 수 있었다. 엄마의 모습을 무척이나 빼어 닮은 딸과의 끈끈한 내면 속의 애정을 꾸밈없고 순수한 시선으로 표현하고자 하였다.;A mother's love for her child never changes its meaning irrespect of time. Love between a mother and daughter forms the tightest relationship among all the type of maternal love. Frued has suggested maternal love is not only the strongest type of affection, enduring a lifetime but is also the prototype of love, which her child will pass to future generation^(23)). Maternal love is a natural behavior characteristic of all women. Therefore, maternal love is the negative and dark side of old times were representative of most photography trends. This study was designed to revaluate the love between mother and daughter by expressing similarity and nearness. In today's modern society, maternal love is being lost through the increase of single mothers and adoption. This expression of direct and unconditional love based on the fact that the child is part of the maternal whole. Past art preferred to show mother-son relationship statues rather than those portraying mother-daughter due to the effect of Catholicism, However, a religious revolution eliminate the holy statue of Virgin Mary. After photography was considered a branch of art, photography dealing with mother-daughter relationships started to increase. In the past, esthetical description and familial photography reflecting the study may lead to the restablishment of maternal love. All the photography were taken in a small town, Knoxville, Tennessee of the United States. Although America seems to be vast affluent in the eyes of a foreigner, it left me with a great sense of homesickness. During the preparation of this study, I have given to birth a beautiful daughter, which is the perfect reason for me to choose this subject.
