섀도우 위브를 이용한 직물의 표현연구

Abstract

Development of unique, creative design and the visual expression by perception operation are the problem which are solved in modern fabric design. This thesis has the significance in expressing relief effect of shadow weave which Mary Meigs Atwater introduced first directly after the First World War through an visual illusion, which is attempted on the new possibility by weavers. This research is advanced through the following methods. First, I analyze shadow weave by virtue of the concept, direction and expression using visual effects of the line, because the first used formative element is the line when shadow weave is represented to fabric design. Second, I analyze visual relief effect of shadow weave by formative element of line - alteration of direction, repetition, gradual increase, rhythm, symmetry and asymmetry. And also, I research the relief effect which is represented in modem fabric design through this principle. Third, I contemplate preponderantly about the origin of shadow weave, general concept and characteristics. Also, I analyze visual possibility by the fabric design which put shadow weave into practice and visual effect by using the sample. Fourth, I propose the relief effect by the visual illusion on the ground of above - mentioned research. The following result is obtained by above research. First, Shadow weave creates the pinstripe of warpwise and weftwise is using dark or light thread, (and heavy or thin thread) alternatively in warp and weft, which in 45˚ stripe. Consequently one perceives visual relief - effect through this angle. Second, In order to confirm the best clear effect of shadow weave, The best contrast color when the dark and the light threads which are used in warp and weft of pattern and shadow arrange 1:1 is used. Third, Visual effect of shadow weave is maximized by the repetition and gradual increase of same form, various combination of pattern, alteration of linear direction. Fourth, The fabric design which applies shadow weave is manufactured into a balanced fabric and used in any serving fabric because of having the structure of plain weave. I wish that the research into the fabric design which produces visual effect will be magnified on the foundation of this thesis.;독창적인 디자인의 개발과 지각 작용에 의한 시각적인 표현은 현대 직물 디자인에서 풀어나가야 할 과제이다. 본 연구는 제 1차 세계 대전 직후 메리 메이즈 앳워터(Mary Meigs Atwater)가 처음으로 소개한 이래로 직조인들에 의해 새로운 가능성이 시도되고 있는 섀도우 위브(Shadow weave)의 시각적인 부조 효과를 표현하는데 그 의의가 있으며 크게 다음과 같은 방법을 통해 본 연구를 진행하였다. 첫 번째, 섀도우 위브가 직물 디자인으로 표현되는데 있어서 가장 먼저 이용된 조형요소는 선이므로 선의 개념, 방향성 및 선의 시각적인 효과를 이용한 표현을 통해 분석하였다. 두 번째, 방향의 변화, 반복, 점층, 율동, 대칭과 비대칭의 선의 조형요소를 통해 섀도우 위브의 시각적인 부조 효과를 분석하고, 이러한 원리에 의해 현대 직물 디자인에 표현된 부조 효과를 연구하였다. 세 번째, 섀도우 위브의 기원, 일반적인 개념과 그 특성에 관하여 중점적으로 고찰하였다. 섀도우 위브를 응용한 직물 디자인으로 시각적인 가능성을 분석하고 샘플을 동해 시각적인 효과를 분석하였다. 네 번째, 이상에서 연구한 내용을 바탕으로 섀도우 위브의 시각적인 부조 효과를 작품을 통해 제시하였다. 이와 같은 연구 결과 다음과 같은 결과를 얻었다. 첫 번째, 섀도우 위브는 경사와 위사에 어둡고 밝은, 굵고 가는 실이 번갈아 엇갈려 사용됨으로서 경사방향의 줄무늬와 위사방향의 줄무늬가 생기며 그 결과로서 45° 각도의 선이 생기는데 이 각도에 의해 시각적인 부조 효과를 느낄 수 있다. 두 번째, 섀도우 위브의 가장 분명한 효과를 보기 위해서는 패턴과 그림자의 경사, 위사에 쓰이는 어둡고 밝은 실을 1:1로 하여 가장 대비되는 색채를 사용한다. 세 번째, 섀도우 위브의 시각적인 효과는 동일한 형태의 반복과 점층, 여러 가지 패턴의 조합, 선의 방향의 변화로써 극대화된다. 네 번째, 섀도우 위브를 이용한 직물 디자인은 평직의 구조를 가지기 때문에 균형있는 직물로 제직되며 어떠한 용도의 직물에도 이용될 수 있다. 본 연구를 통하여 시각적인 효과를 거둘 수 있는 직물 디자인에 관한 연구가 확대되기를 바란다.
