고대 그리스 복식의 조형미를 응용한 복식 디자인 연구

Abstract

Since costume is a work of art put on the living body of man, it is also a means of expressing dynamic aesthetic sense, physical desire, and inner world of man. Costume is not only a starting point of sensuous self-satisfaction but also an important medium for artistic sensitivity and self-expression. Therefore, it is considered as a world of unique creation and it has established its own place in the world of formative art. In this regard, this study attempts to investigate ancient Greek costume which has become a foundation of classical aesthetic sense and the Western culture ever sine the cloth started to be worn upon the human body. Regarding physical beauty as dignified one, ancient Greek costume elevated expressions of that dignity and took forms to enliven wearer's personality in various ways while maintaining the basic patterns. The purpose of this study is to present possibilities of developing new fashion designs with originality, higher additional and scarity values by examining traits of ancient Greek costume in which man was valued as important and expressions of beauty were free to assimilate with nature and by applying them to the current fashion design and silhoue´tte. As a theoretical background, the geographical, cultural, political, architectural and artistic backgrounds of ancient Greece were investigated, then process of change and formative features of its costume examined and analyzed through reference investigation and photographs, and finally contemporary clothings with those traits were collected as a datum, analyzed, and classified. In this study, the range of ancient Greek era was set from 1200 to 146 B.C., which was again classified into Alcaic, Classic, and Hellenistic age. the process of change in ancient Greek Doric, Ionic chitons and various wearing mode of Himathion by the times were investigated in accordance with each times, and, among elements of ancient Greek costume, traits and its formative beauty were mainly dealt with while color, pattern and material so on were collaterally explained. As for the formative beauty, especially drapery style emphasizing the features of human body, various expressions, and diversity of material and color were classified and examined. Based upon this, the author made total eight life-size works from silk chiffon of transparent feel and high-quality silk by applying the formative beauty and silhoue´tte shown in the ancient Greek costume, created splendid, elaborate feeling through beading and embroidering, and emphasized elegant pleats of 360˚ angle flare skirt. And the consequence attained through theoretical investigation and actual making of works is as follows; First, ancient Greek humanistic beauty with affinity for nature could become an excellent design motive for creating varied, unique fashion. Second, drapery style of ancient Greece making much of delicate, rhythmic movements and lines produces solidly moving silhoue´ttes to make formative, aesthetic expressions of dress possible. Third, analyzing and reinterpreting a variety of formative beauty contained in the ancient Greek costume, we can get infinite possibilities and new modes of expression in the current costume. Fourth, with various silk cloths and through several techniques such as beading and embroidering, higher quality of contemporary clothing and sophisticated design development can be achieved. Fifth, unique fashion designs in accordance with varied life style of modem man can be accomplished. This study focused on fashion designs with higher additional value using such materials as silk or smooth chiffon. Also, during investigating drapery styles, diverse proportions, and variety of material and color somewhat limitedly, it was revealed that the formative beauty of the ancient Greek costume presents infinite possibilities of study. Considering this infinite possibility, the author of this study thinks much more attempts to extract various design motives from other resources besides the formative beauty dealt in this study are possible and hopes that further studies for developing new designs of ready-made clothes making most of the traits and formative beauty of the ancient Greek costume and satisfying modem sense.;복식은 인체위에 입혀지는 예술작품으로 동적인 미적 감각과 신체적인 욕구와 인간의 내면세계를 표현하는 수단이다. 또한, 감각적인 자기만족의 시작일 뿐 아니라 예술적 감성과 자기표현을 위한 중요한 매개체이다. 그렇기 때문에 복식은 독특한 창작의 세계로 보며 조형예술의 입지를 확립했다고 볼 수 있다. 고대 그리스 복식은 인체의 아름다움을 존엄하게 여기며, 그에 대한 표현을 복식으로 승화하였으며, 또한 기본적인 형태를 고수하면서 각자의 개성을 살려서 다양한 방식으로 둘러 입는 형태를 지녔다. 이에 본 연구는 인체 위에 복식이 입혀지기 시작한 이래로 고전주의적인 미의식과 서양문화의 기반이 되었던 고대 그리스의 복식을 살펴보고자 한다. 자연과 동화되어 인간의 가치를 중요시하며, 미에 대한 표현이 자유로웠던 고대 그리스의 복식상의 특징을 연구하고 정립하며 조형미 중에서 드레이퍼리(Drapery)성을 현대복식에 응용함으로써 조형예술의 특성을 지닌 독창적인 새로운 복식 디자인의 개발 가능성을 제시함에 목적을 두었다. 이론적 배경으로 고대 그리스의 복식의 시대별 변천 과정과 조형적 특징을 문헌조사와 사진자료를 토대로 분석, 조사하고 그 특징이 나타나는 현대 복식의 자료를 수집, 분석하였다. 고대 그리스의 시대적 범위는 기원전 1200년에서 146년까지의 기간으로 알카익, 고전, 헬레니즘 시대로 기준을 정하였다. 고대 그리스 시대의 키톤의 변천 과정과 히마티온의 시대별 다양한 착장법을 시대 구분에 따라 고찰하였으며, 고대 그리스의 복식의 조형미에서는 인체의 유연하고 부드러운 특성을 살린 드레이퍼리성, 다양한 비례미, 소재, 색채, 문양의 다양성으로 구분하여 연구하였다. 이를 토대로 고대 그리스의 복식상에 나타나는 조형성 중에서도 드레이퍼리성을 응용하여 가볍고, 투명한 느낌의 실크쉬폰과 수직 실크, 조세트 실크 등을 이용하여, 입체재단과 바이어스 컷팅 등으로 우아하고 흘러내리는 듯한 주름을 강조하여 총 8작품을 실물 제작하였다. 본 연구의 이론적 고찰과 작품 제작을 통해 얻은 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 인체의 동적인 아름다움을 표현하는데 고대 그리스 복식은 독창적이며 개성적인 좋은 디자인의 모티브가 될 수 있음을 알게 되었다. 둘째, 섬세하며 율동적인 드레이퍼리를 입체적이고 흐르는 듯한 복식의 실루엣을 연출하여 개성적이고 심미적인 복식으로 표현할 수가 있음을 알게 되었다. 셋째, 제작하는데 얇은 실크쉬폰과 입체재단, 바이어스 컷팅 등으로 다양한 주름을 나타낼 수 있었으며 실크쉬폰, 조세트 실크 등으로 유연하면서 자연스러운 드레이퍼리형 복식을 제작할 수 있음을 알게 되었다. 넷째, 드레이퍼리형 복식은 여성스럽고 고급스러운 이미지가 연출됨으로써 패션의 품격을 높이는데 좋은 디자인의 소재가 됨을 알게 되었다. 이상의 결과로 그리스복식의 조형미중에서 큰 요소를 차지하고 있는 드레이퍼리는 새롭고 독창적인 디자인 개발 가능성을 제시해 주고 있다. 이러한 드레이퍼리는 고대 그리스 복식의 표현 방법뿐 아니라 무한한 장식적 복식의 모티브 가능성을 재인식함으로써 현대 복식디자인에 좋은 소재가 될 수 있을 것이다. 또한 입체재단의 복식 연구를 통해 새로운 드레이퍼리의 폭넓은 창출을 기대할 수 있으리라 본다.
