엔지니어의 정보요구와 이용

Abstract

기업체 자료실의 효율적인 봉사제공을 위해 이용자의 정보요구와 습성, 정보이용행태 등을 파악하는 것은 매우 중요한 일이다. 본 연구는 기업체에 근무하는 엔지니어들의 정보요구와 이용의 특성을 알아보기 위해, 기술용역업체인 한국전력기술주식회사의 서울 본사 근무 엔지니어 392명에 질문지를 배포하였으며, 회수된 설문지 중 257매에 대해 결과를 분석하였다. 이들의 정보요구와 이용에 대한 경향은 다음과 같다. 1) 엔지니어들이 선호하는 자료는 기술보고서, 규격자료, 외국관련회사의 업무수행 참고자료, 학술잡지, 편람·데이타집의 순이다. 2) 정보탐색시 자료실 소장자료를 찾거나 조사를 의뢰하며 ,동료, 개인 및 부서소장자료도 많이 활용한다. 3) 최신정보의 60.5%는 인쇄문헌을 통해서, 나머지는 동료, 세미나, 학·협회 회의 및 기타를 통해 입수한다. 4) 약 79%의 엔지니어가 70 %이상의 외국자료를 이용한다. 5) 발행된 현년도에서 3 - 4년까지의 학술잡지를 많이 이용한다. 6) 이용자료의 60.2 %를 직접 업무에 사용하며, 33.9 %는 광범위한 분야, 5.9 %는 업무와 무관한 자료이다. 7) 약 4.24 종의 학술잡지를 계속 훑어보며 ,약1.03종의 잡지는 개인적으로 입수한다. 8) 80%의 엔지니어가 세미나에 종종 혹은 적극 참석하며, 1인당 약0.73의 학·협회에 가입해있다. 9) 자료실 이용은 주1회 이상이 약50%며 ,프로젝트지원 및 연구개발업무 종사자가 더 자주 이용한다. 이러한 경향에 대해 다음과 같은 제언을 한다. 1) 전공분야별로 충실한 장서구성을 하며, 엔지니어들이 선호하는 자료에 주력하고, 2차자료 구비에 충실을 꾀한다. 2) 검색의 전산화나 주제어 검색 시스템을 마련하고, 장서목록 발간 및 서비스 안내, 이용교육 등을 계속 시행한다. 3) 세미나와 학·협회 회의자료를 적극 입수하며, 녹음 및 내용요약도 제공하고 세미나 개최 및 참석을 적극 유도한다. 4) 최신 외국자료의 2차자료 구비 및 자료 입수의 신속화, 절차의 간소화 등을 단행하며, 외국의 출판사나 대행사와의 연결망 설치를 시도한다. 5) 신간 학술잡지의 신속한 입수 및 기간호 정리에 충실을 기한다. 수요가 많은 잡지는 복본 구입하고, 주요 기사는 복사 서비스를 시행한다. 6) 프로젝트나 연구개발업무의 주제를 미리 파악하고 업무에 함께 참여해 필요자료를 조사하여 제공한다. 7) 쉽고 빠르게 봉사를 이용토록 하며, SDI서비스제공 등으로 자료실 이용을 활성화하게 된다. 8) 관련기관 및 연구소 대학 도서관 등과의 협력체제를 마련한다.;For the effective service in a company library, it is very important to know the clients' information needs and uses. For the purpose of understanding the information needs and uses in engineering companies, a total of 392 questionnaires were sent to the engineers in Korea Power Engineering Company, inc., in Seoul. Among the returned answers, 257 were usable. According to the analysis of these, the trends are as follows: 1) The engineers' favorite materials are technical reports, codes & standards, foreign engineering companies' materials journals, handbooks and databooks etc.. 2) When searching for information, they go to the library, consult colleagues, or look through personal or departmental collections. 3) To keep up-to-date, the engineers get 60.5 percent of their information through printed materials, the rest form colleagues, seminars, or professional meetings. 4) 78.9 percent of the engineers obtain over 70 percent of their information form foreign materials. The percentages increase in proportion to their job training experience abroad. 5) Most of the journals they use were published less than three to four years ago. 6) 60.2 percent of the materials used are directly job related 33.9 percent cover related areas and 5.9 percent involve other purposes. 7) The average number of journals scanned is 4.24, and the average to which the engineers privately subscribed is 1.03. 8) 80 percent of the engineers attending seminars at least occasionally. The active attenders are active library users. The rate of their joining professional societies is 0.73 per person. 9) Approximately 50 percent of the engineers use the library more frequently than once a week. The engineers working in the project assistance department and R & D department use in more frequently. Several major suggestions for improved services resulted from this study are as follows: 1) The collections must cover the engineers' own specialty field, concentrating on their favorite materials. Preparation of computerized retrieval system, guides and education for the library services should be continued. 2) Librarians should take an active interest in the seminars or meeting and acquire all presented papers or reports. 3) The rapid acquisition and supply of up-to-date foreign books and periodicals are necessary preferably by network-ing with foreign publishers or agents. 4) Librarians can more efficiently search for and supply need-ed materials by participating in current projects or R & D work. 5) There must be an inter-library loan system among the technical libraries of related research institutes, agencies and universities, etc..
