Abstract
The purpose of the present study is to comparatively study on two kinds of dance among many kinds of Koeran court dance - Hunsundo(獻仙桃) which takes a style of Dangakjungiaz (唐樂呈才) and Mansumu(萬壽舞) which takes a style of Hyangakjungjai (鄕樂呈才); in this, the contents, modes, and all the elements of those two kinds of dance are comparatively studied with reference to old literature, in order to clarify the content, general form, and special feature of Korean court dance(宮中呈才); this study focusses on two kinds of dance - Hunsundo(獻仙桃) and Mansumu(萬壽舞) which have been handed down to the present by means of only literature, in order to highlight them into live revival, elucidate them, and thereby help the dance world of our country, Korea. Such court dance can be classified info Dangakjungjai (唐樂呈才) and Hyangakjungjai (鄕樂呈才). In a review of two kinds of dance among many kinds of Koeran court dance - Hunsundo(獻仙桃) which takes a style of Dangakjungjai (唐樂呈才) and Mansumu(萬壽舞) which takes a style of Hunygakjungjai(鄕樂呈才), Hunsundo(獻仙桃) is a dance created in the days of King, Moonjong of the Koryo dynasty, whose content depicts that the dead, mother of King, Moonjong came down from the heavenly fairyland in order to praise and bless her son, King, Moonjong and presented him sundo(仙桃; peaches of the fairyland) and whose major coposition is characterized with the words of song(唱詞) in Chinese characters; and in the meantime, Mansumu(萬壽舞) is a dance created in those days of King, Soonjo of the Yi dynasty whose content depicts that the dead, mother of King, Soonjong came down from the fairyland in order to praise and bless his son, King, Moonjong and presented him chunseyoungdo(天歲靈桃; peaches of the fairyland for long life) and whose composition is characterized with the words of song in Korean and Chinese characters along with its progress of various dance forms. By the way, some detailed contents of Hunsundo(獻仙桃) and Mansumu(萬壽舞) which are intended to comparatively study here are included in literature, and so, in a comparative review through literature, it is understandable that in Hunsundo(獻仙桃), names, melodies, and the words of song in the aspects of its content and form had changed through the periods of the Koryo dynasty and Yi dynasty, and however with no significant change of its content and form, thereby being preserved and handed down to the present in the orginal form; and Mansumu(萬壽舞) is characterized with its simplification of formal procedures in comparison with Hunsundo(獻仙桃), thereby reducing the ceremonial aspect, and however, with emphasis of dance elements through various changes of the composition of dance and 춤사위, it is characterized with more progressed composition and change; in its Mansumu(萬壽舞) musical aspect, it is understandable that its accompaniment, title, and the words of song differ from Hunsundo(獻仙桃), but the content of praising and blessing the king is identical; and with reduction of the times to sing the words of song(唱詞), it is understandable that the dance of Mansumu(萬壽舞) was simplified. In the light of the finings above, it is understandable that two kinds of dance - Hunsundo(獻仙桃), and Mansumu(萬壽舞) have a close relationship between them even though they were created and dramatically performed in different periods; however, even though Mansumu(萬壽舞) seems to utilize the content and form of Hunsundo(獻仙桃) which are to praise and bless the king, but not to simply imitate Hunsundo(獻仙桃) which takes a style of Dangakjungjai (唐樂呈才); however, its Mansurnu(萬壽舞) dance procedures are more developed and systemized. By this study, it may be so important that a typical Dangakjungjai (唐樂呈才) - Hunsundo(獻仙桃)- is again reflected, presented and researched, but however, with recognizing its Mansumu(萬壽舞) art nature and significance which not only regards the ceremonial procedures important with being newly created so important but also appoaches to the realization of its art nature and its setting a stage so important, it is hoped there are more active, deeper studies in the future.
