Abstract
In the West, one way to reach to painting is to master tile ways of self-expression, while in the East the way is taught to be acquired by realizing something eternal in the painter's heart. In 'tile East, per)pie say that to paint something real and true to be a man of character at first. The reason is that a painting is an expression of the painter's mentality. To draw well, the heart should respond with the soul. That is, there must be an inner harmony. In our tradition, Chinese influence holds so much of it that there is a tendency not to loudly claim our tradition is our won property, but consuming the Chinese influence into our won culture, we can say that tradition itself is peculiar to us Korean. But we should net praise tradition recklessly by saying very Korean is very universal but to seek for the universal elements included in our tradition and explore progressive factors worthy of propagandizing to the world. Therefore, the author of this study has been working to realize the spirit of the pictorial circle of the East as one realm of our tradition and to give artistic order by employing the brush techniques and arranging them on canvas. Extremely simplified forms through brush techniques, the author thinks, is very effective in delivering a theme. What the author tries to deal is a painting based on the blush techniques of Oriental painting to which effects of computer graphic added. This is to supplement the distract expressional effects of the shade of Indian ink and of technical peculiarity. For this purpose, 1 think that by making use of computer mechanism and receiving helps in expressing we can communicate more clearly mechanism and receiving helps in expressing we can communicate more clearly and exactly. To accomplish this purpose, 1 am trying to investigate as follows : 1. Oriental ways of thinking and the theories on Oriental painting 2. Western ways of thinking and pictorial differences according to them. 3. Difference between Eastern and Western ways of thinking and painting. 4. Paintings employed the brush techniques of Oriental painting(mainly around paintings by Je Bak-suk) 5. Expressional ways(a. Paintings by Lee Jung-sup : b. effects of computer graphic) Investigation of the above can also supplement the limits of computer graphic which primarily gives a focus only on the external principles of formation while disregarding the painter's emotional delivery. Not wholly depending upon the mechanized system but employing the brush techniques which can deliver the emotions of the author of this study above all things. I have explored a way of granting the painter's emotions regarded as important in the East, smoothness and naturalness on a work. As a consequence, 1 followed the pictorial theories of the East faithfully and expressed themes through the simplicity of forms. My works got a powerful visual effect, but they can not be called as a purely Oriental one, This is because they lack 'energetic liveliness' the ideal of Oriental painting. To represent 'energetic liveliness' very well, painters must not only possess personality through hard mental training but also power of brush, complete mastery of arranging the shade and ability to express his spirit and soul. Of course, my mentality if not fully trained, and I could not represent 'energetic liveliness' because of attempting to get a strong visual effect with black and white colors. Future study is required to explore more suitable methods to supplement weaks and limits of my work and to obtain lively expression while maintaining the shade of Indian ink or power of brush. I think the most important thing in studying is not to think that only materials and instruments are main things to consider in transmitting the tradition and neither imitate partial technical characteristics such as lines or brush and ink. What is essential is a deep grasp of our ideas and spirit and mental attitude.;서양의 경우는 그림에 이르는 방법으로 자기 표현의 길을 체득하는 것이라 하는 반면, 동양의 경우는 자기 속에서 깨닫는 영원한 어떤 것으로 얻어진다고 가르치고 있다.
