백조를 주제로 한 COFFEE-SET디자인 연구

Abstract

선사시대부터 인간은 자연의 산물인 흙을 빚어 그릇을 만들어 생활의 편리함을 도모하였고, 그 그릇 위에 여러 가지 무늬를 새겨 넣음으로써 아름다움을 창조하였다. 인간이 보다 편리하고 아름다운 생활을 추구하는 성향은 예나 지금이나 변함이 없을 것이다. 더욱이 오늘날과 같은 물질의 홍수 속에서 각자의 기호에 맞도록 선택할 수 있는 기회가 주어져 있고, 대량생산으로 인한 제품의 획일성 때문에 사람들은 서로 색다르고 개서있는 것을 추구하게 되었다. 또한 주 생활인 식생활에 이어, 점차 후식이나 간식에 따른 커피 문화가 발달해옴에 따라 그에 따른 커피세트의 개발이 활발해지고 있다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 이렇게 요구되는 현대적 후식기의 개발과, 생활의 본질적인 아름다움을 추구하는 디자인 개발에 중점을 두고 실용성, 심미성이 조화된 커피세트를 제작하고자 하였다. 디자인의 주제로는 평화스러움과 아름다운 모습을 가진 백조를 선택하여 심미적인 커피세트 디자인을 연구, 제작하였다. 이를 위해 우선 커피의 유래와 발전, 그리고 그에 따른 커피세트의 발전과 문화등을 문헌을 통해 조사하고, 백조의 모습을 나타낸 산업도자들을 그림과 사진을 통해 알아보았다. 또한 작품의 다양한 시도를 위해, 사실적인 백조의 외형을 담은 디자인과 부분인 날개를 이용해 디자인한, 두가지 방법을 병행하였다. 작품은 잔, 잔 받침, 설탕기, 크림기, 볼이 한 조를 이루도록 재작하였으며 작품의 제작 방법으로는 석고틀을 이용한 이장주입 성형방식과 가압식 주입성형방식을 택하여 대량 생산의 가능성을 모색하였다. 작품의 시유와 소성은 주제의 이미지를 잘 살릴 수 있도록 태토로 선택한 밀양백토 위에 투명유와 매트유, 색화장토, 안료 등을 사용하여 밝고 산뜻한 느낌을 줄 수 있도록 시유하였고, 작품의 성격에 따라 수금처리도 시도해 보았다. 소성방법으로는 1차 소성은 0.5㎥ 가스가마에서 최고온도 820℃로 9시간 동안 소성하였으며, 2차 소성은 전기가마에서 최고온도 1260℃로 8시간동안 산화 소성하였다. 또한 수금처리를 위한 3차 소성은 전기가마에서 780℃를 최고온도로 5시간 동안 산화소성 하였다. 위와 같은 작품의 제작을 통해, 백조가 가진 아름다운 특징을 파악하여 현시대에 맞는 후식기 디자인 개발에 대한 연구를 시도해 볼 수 있었으며, 이러한 경험을 바탕으로 우리 주변에서 흔히 대할 수 있는 여러 자연물에 대한 자세한 관찰과, 그것을 보다 심미적으로 보는 시각이야 말로 실용적이고도 시각적 만족을 동시에 얻을 수 있는 커피세트 디자인 개발에 중요한 요소가 될 수 있다는 것을 깨닫게 되었다.;Since prehistoric period, people have produced potteries for their convenient life, and designed on the potteries for visual stisfaction; enhancing their life conveniently and beautifully are the constant hman nature. Moreover, in material civilization, like today, there are much more choices t o select products as consumers' taste; people become to prefer products with individual character rather than standardized products like factory products. In the dietary life, a kind of culture, 'coffee' has been developed in the necessity of refreshment. Therefore, various style of coffee sets have has been developed actively as much as the development of dinerer ware. In this study, therfore, I emphasized practical and aesthetic mature on the coffee sets. It responds to the modern requirement to develop dessert ware that is convenient and substantially beautiful. The theme of the design of the study is swan, that indicates peaceful and beatiful figure. Througt the coffee sets, therefore, I tried to represent swan's own mysterious and elegant characteristics. For the evidence, in the first place, I researched the origin of coffee and the development of coffee industry, and cultural growth and the improvement of coffee sets from several historical records. Also, I studied some industrial ceramic ware featuring the swan through the photgraphy collections and literature records. In order to attempt variety style of the ceramic works, I embodied realistic or symbolic images of a swan's wings each works. In this work, I produced five cups, a saucer, a sugar bowl, a creamer and a cookie jar as one set. For t h e method to produce those coffee sets, I utilized both t h e slip casting forming method and pressed pouring forming methods. I also considered the possibility of mass production with those methods. In glazing and firing production, in order to represent the image of the theme maximumly, I used some transparant glaze, matt glaze, pigment glaze and so on in order to show sense of brightness and freshness. Depends on the characterisitcs of the each work. I plated gold powder. The first firing was done in 0.5㎥ gas kiln up to maximum 820℃ for five hours. The second firing in the electricity kiln up to maximum 1260℃ for eight hours oxidizedly. The third firing is only for coating gold; the third firing is produced in the electricity kiln u p to maximum 780℃ for five hours. While I was working the coffee sets, I always asked myself that how to improve the design of the coffee sets visually and practically based upon a certan theme: Swan. I believe that observing things around us closely with diverse perspective is the answer, and it is very important for a pottery designer in order to creat visual and practical satisfactory works.
