버섯의 이미지에 의한 도자제 합 디자인 연구

Abstract

조형예술에서 공예는 쓰여지는 생활 속의 아름다움을 추구한다는 점에서 타 분야와 구분된다. 실생활과 거리감이 있는 예술을 우리의 삶의 공간에 직접 끌어들이는 것이 바로 공예라는 분야이고 문명의 시작과 함께 역사를 자랑하는 것이 바로 도자예술이다. '기' 의 형태는 용과 미를 겸한 것으로 인간이 일상생활을 영위하는데 있어 커다란 비중을 차지해 왔다. 인류가 농경과 목축의 정착생활을 하면서 저장의 목적으로 생겨난 것이 각종 용기이고 그 용도에 따라 다양한 형태가 생겨나고 발전하게 된다. 그 중에서도 뚜껑이 있는 용기는 용기안의 물건을 더욱 안전하고 소중하게 보관하는 용도로 쓰여지며 그 자체가 애장품이 되어왔다. 현대는 아름다움을 추구하며 삶의 질에 대한 관심이 증가하는 시대이다. 새롭고 다양한 재질의 발명으로 가볍고 강하고 실용적인 용기들이 출현 했지만 아직도 도자용기가 계속 쓰여지고 그로인해 발전하는 이유는 개성 있는 미에 대한 추구와 소량 생산되고 개인 취향과 욕구를 반영시키는 생활 용기의 요구가 이어지고 있기 때문이다 이는 도자용기의 디자인 개발의 필요성을 느끼게 한다. 문화와 경제의 발달로 도자용기는 이제 더 이상 단순한 생활의 도구가 아닌 공간을 아름답게 하는 예술품의 의미도 겸하고 있다. 이러한 요소를 충족시킬 수 있는 실용적이고 조형적 아름다움을 갖춘 도자 합 디자인 연구에 목적이 있다. 버섯은 식용으로 쓰이기도 하며 생태계의 분해자 역할을 ·맡아 자연계가 순환 하도록 하는 생물이다. 소멸과 탄생의 중간단계에 있고 어둡고 습한 환경에서 나무와 함께 살아가는 버섯의 생태적 특성과 양송이, 화경버섯, 어리송이, 흰가시광대버섯, 애기버섯, 영지버섯, 송곳니 구름버섯, 망태버섯, 테두리 방귀버섯, 다형 꽁투리버섯의 형태를 통한 이미지에서 느껴지는 심상을 연구자의 주관적 표현방법으로 기능적인 특성을 고려하여 조형적으로 아름답게 표현하는 데 그 목적이 있다. 연구의 내용은 공예와 조형예술에 대해서 고찰하고 여러 가지 용도의 합과 그에 따른 형태에 대해 살펴보고 소재로써의 버섯의 생태적 특성과 형태와 이미지에 대하여 조사하였다. 또한 버섯의 이미지를 조형화한 다른 작가들의 작품을 살펴 다양한 표현방법을 모색하였다. 이러한 연구를 바탕으로 버섯의 형태적 특성을 직접적으로 강조하거나 형태적 이미지를 새롭게 해석하는 방법으로 합의 형태를 지닌 다용도 용기 제작을 시도하였다. 작품 제작 시 반복성형과 버섯의 곡선을 표현하는데 용이한 석고틀을 이용한 이장주입 성형을 하였다. 태토는 백색도가 뛰어난 백자토를 사용하였고 유약은 태토의 색을 강조할 수 있는 투명유를 기본적으로 사용하였다. 부분적으로 다양한 색감이 필요한 곳에는 주로 고화도 안료를 섞은 태토를 이용하였고 강조할 부분에는 붓으로 소량 시유하고<작품 7> 삼차소성 하기도 하였다. <작품 9> 소성은 0.5㎥ 가스가마에서 최고온도 900℃까지 10시간동안 1차 소성한 후 시유하여 0.3㎥ 전기가마에서 최고온도 1250℃까지 12시간동안 산화염 소성하였다. 작품에 따라 버섯의 미묘한 색감을 표현하기위해 저화도 유약을 사용<작품 9>하고 전기가마에서 최고온도 1030℃까지 10시간동안 3차 소성하여 완성하였다. 본 연구를 통해 버섯은 생태적으로 여러 가지 모습을 보임으로써 다양한 심상을 불러일으키며 형태적 특성에서 드러나는 이미지가 다양하고 개성이 있어 조형성을 가진 생활용기에 알맞은 소재이며 무한한 표현의 가능성을 지니고 있음을 알 수 있었다. 또한, 일상공간에서 대자연을 느낄 수 있는 뚜껑이 있는 용기의 다양한 용도와 그에 따른 편리성과 조형적 아름다움을 고려한 디자인에 대해, 그리고 합이 가지는 형태적 특성에 따른 제작시 유의점에 대하여 알 수 있었다. 창의적인 디자인의 생활용품들의 필요성으로 현대인의 개성과 장식적 요소가 내재되어있는 물건의 수요는 점점 늘어날 것이다 앞으로 자기만의 개성을 일상생활 공간에서 표현하고자 하는 욕구는 계속 증가할 것이며 아름답고 기능적인 도자용기는 이를 충족시키기에 매우 적절할 것이다. 이러한 상황에서 더욱 개성 있고 차별화된 디자인의 도자용기에 대한 연구가 계속되길 기대한다.;One of the major features that distinguish crafts from other forms of formative arts is that crafts pursue practical beauty, or beauty in everyday life. Crafts have brought art, which is usually seen detached from real life, into everyday life. Among various forms of crafts, ceramics is an ancient craft whose origin traces back to the birth of civilization. In particular, vessels are a combination of practicality and beauty and have been closely related to human lives. Since people ended a nomadic way of life to settle down and started farming and stock raising, they needed to store food. This change in lifestyle gave birth to vessels, and since then, various forms of vessels have been developed to meet var ious purposes. In particular, vessels with a lid clearly show the desire to protect food. Furthermore, they are regarded a s more than practical goods and have become decorative art works. Today, people put great importance on the quality of life. This explains their continuous desire for beauty. Although lighter, more durable vessels with more practicality came out with the invention of new sophisticated materials, demands for ceramics are still high. This requires further development of ceramics design. With cultural and economic development, now ceramics are more than mere household goods to become art work that decorates living spaces. The purpose of this study lies in creating a ceramic vessel which combines practicality and formative beauty. Mushrooms are selected a s a motif, because they are appropriate to express natural beauty and spiritual, rather than material, aspect of human mind. In order to discuss the future of contemporary ceramic art, the study examines combining nature and art, crafts and forms . It also explores biological and formative characteristics of mushrooms, reviewed crafts which used the mushroom image, and present how the aesthetic aspect is intensified when a mushroom is used as a motif of ceramic vessels. Based on this study, a multipurpose vessel with a lid was made with an emphasis on the shape of a mushroom, or through a new interpretation of the mushroom image. In the clay work, the slip casting technique was applied in order to make the surface smooth and for the convenience of repeated molding. White clay and white porcelain transparent glaze were mainly used to express the whiteness. In order to express other various colors i n some parts of the vessel, clay mixed with paints were used. To emphasize certain areas, additional glaze was applied with the use ,of brushes, and if necessary, the vessel was fired three times. The vessel was first fired for 10 hours in a 0.5㎥ gas kiln up to 900℃, followed by 12 hours of an oxidation firing in a 0.3㎥ electric kiln up to 1250 ℃. In order to express the subtlety of the color of mushrooms, a low temperature glaze was applied and the third firing was done for 10 hours in an electric kiln reaching the temperature of 1030℃. This study shows that mushrooms, with their biological and formative characteristics, can successfully serve as a subject matter for the design of decorative vessels. Now that artistic vessels have become commonplace, desires for decorative products are increasing. As a result, demands for handicraft ceramics will rise which meet such desires. It is hoped that more in-depth studies on producing ceramics with more unique and distinctive design will continue.
