배우의 초상

Abstract

최초의 초상은 이집트의 미이라였다. 죽음을 통해 탄생한 이미지는 덧없는 것에 대한 푸닥거리로서, 또한 생명 의지의 훌륭한 증거이다. 카메라의 기술적 진보는 초상사진의 내용에도 많은 영향을 주었다. 초창기의 사진은 심리적 초상사진과 기록적 초상사진에 이어 현대적인 초상으로 이어져 왔다. 사진의 대상은 저명인사에서 소외된 계층까지, 사진가의 세계에 따라 다르게 변주된다. 그런데 가장 많이 다루어지는 사진은 보통 사람들의 가족사진과 같은 기념사진들이다. 초상에 대한 사진의 현실재현 능력과 복제성은 한 층 확장되고 영향력이 커진 대중매체를 통한 스타의 초상을 통해 이루어진다. 스타는 배우이기 보다는 자본주의 산물인 스타시스템에 의해서 만들어진 존재이며 상품으로서의 기능이 확대된 존재이다. 대중매체가 유포하는 초상사진은 미화와 이상화라는 상투화한 이미지로서 대중의 의식을 조작하고 이용한다. 연극에서의 배우는 다른 존재로 변신하는 존재이며, 지금 이 순간 우리 눈앞에 존재한다는 것이 무엇보다도 중요하다. 배우를 상투적으로 미화하는 사진이 아닌 사진의 가장 오래된 형식인 기념사진의 특성을 차용해 기록하려 했다. 또한 배경이 되는 나무는 반복적인 모티브로서 배우들을 상징하는 기호로서 사용하려 하였다. 촬영 대상들의 정면성 유지, 배경과의 관계, 안정된 구도와 일정한 빛 등은 작업의 기준이 되었다. 중형카메라의 선택은 포착이 아닌 연출이 필요했으므로 촬영을 위해 적절한 공간을 찾아야 했다. 또한 그 공간은 연구자가 촬영대상과 친숙해질 수 있는 곳이기도 했다. 공원이나 고궁이라는 장소는 마치 기념촬영을 위해 포즈를 취하던 풍경이 묘사된 스튜디오의 배경지를 연상하게 했다. 일정한 거리와 정사각 프레임은 인물과 함께 배경 또한 잘 드러내주었다. 인물의 자연스런 포즈는 배경의 모티브와 잘 어울리며 일체감을 보여주었다. 그런데 배경과 분리되지 않은 배우의 모습은 오히려 초현실적 이미지로 보이기도 하였다. 연극과 사진은 죽음을 통해 가까운 관계를 갖는다. 연극예술이 주는 일회적이고 사라져버리는 특성은 기억의 매체로서 행위들을 중개하고 기록하는 사진과 만난다. ‘지금, 여기’에서의 연극과 ‘그것이-존재-했음(ça a été)’을 증거로서 남기는 사진은 모두 덧없는 순간을 보여준다. 본 논문에 수록된 인물들은 그동안 연구자가 공연을 기록하면서 만났던 배우들이다. 지금, 여기에서의 배우들의 초상이자 연극 풍경을 기억하기 위한 것이다.;The images made by the death had a fundamental desire to leave human shapes. The photograph acquired reality by physical contact to encourage desires. And, the photograph fixed fragments of reality inside square frame to confine and define what he or she watched. A play was a fascinating object from point of view of various aspects. The play art had one time and disappearing feature to be easy to meet the desire fixing reality of the photograph. And, the photograph had also important role at relaying the art from the beginning of its invention. The photograph that was an image of the image was one of many features. The photograph being media of the memory relayed and recorded activities. On the contrary, activities were made to record them at the photograph. Of course, the photograph could not store and make copy a play as it was. However, the photograph made paper presentation to be an eye to watch a play. The photograph of a play could be made in many ways: Above all, it was concentrated on an actor's face. This was because an actor was an important one who did discourse of a play. Stars of the movie and TV could memorize their figures as media itself. And, the stars applied a theory of consuming products to images as much as the penalty of fame. However, not only the play but also the actor could leave nothing after a public performance was over. The principle of "Now and here" that directly expressed features of play art showed desire of instantaneous fixation that not only disappearing play but also actor art not recorded relied upon. A commemorative photograph mainly celebrated the one hundredth day and the first birth day of a baby, entrance into a school, graduation, school excursion, events and other special days, etc, and it could be also kept permanently like friendship and family. The actors who took pictures at the paper were the ones with whom the author participated in play performance for last several years. The author wanted to memorize the actors not as a performance photograph but as an individual. A portrait might make use of many ways, for instance, a portrait reorganized at studio and the one that was taken at the environment where someone lived life. The author made efforts to avoid profile photograph introducing an actor and artificial images of a star organized at studio. ‘The study selected background that could be well harmonized with characters to produce images of "actor - trees", and it fixed actors' eyes. Not only fixed distance but also square frame also expressed background well together with characters. The characters took natural pose to be well harmonized with motives of background to show a sens of unity. The author recorded actors by character photograph of the ones who made use of commemorative photograph style. The photograph might be a portrait and play scene of the actors.
