조선시대 꽃창살의 조형미를 응용한 의상디자인 연구

Abstract

With an era of the design pluralism coming all over the world, the design today at home and abroad gets more competitive than ever before. We do need to be fully equipped with distinguished strategy that makes it possible competitive dominance, not to fall behind in this design competition. And with that strategy we should establish the identity of our own. Efforts to work hard for the settlement of our native cultural tradition are vigorously under way. Quite a few designers in domestic fashion industry who've just gotten fresh consciousness of traditional culture appear on the international stage, demonstrating true colors of our own by releasing their works based on a native characteristic and traditional style of Korea. It's significant in that people can have improved perception of our tradition and it makes korean beauty well known to world fashion market. Tradition means that a spiritual tendency or character formed in the progress of history in people's lives is transmitted generation after generation, being a normative power itself, and creates a brand new culture. So traditional culture is the key basis of creation. From this point of view, the chances of rediscovering our remarkable cultural value and refreshing it are totally boundless since we koreans have long historical background and unique native cultural heritage. Therefore this study, with analyzing and grasping the formative beauty of floral-patterned lattice of Joseon Dynasty period, one of our special cultural heritages, and then inspecting material and design techniques to indicate its distinctive feature, is aimed at applying it to costume design. While the floral-patterned lattice of Joseon Dynasty period is a facility door set up for absorbing light and air to the inner space and a view, it keeps a fomative and technological quality as well as the function of the dividing bars of architectural structure. Solid floral-patterned lattice clearly shows the craftsmanship and formative sense of our own. Besides cubic floral decoration, both simple and showy, which seems to soften all those strictnesses in systematic order, demonstrates distinctive side of floral-patterned lattice. This study is for expressing the exceptional beauty native to korea in modern costume with joining formative beauty of floral-patterned lattice in design using delicate material techniques, and for suggesting that traditional material is possibly able to originate a modern costume design. As for study measures, based on materials from the inquiry into sundry records, an analysis is carried out focusing on the floral-patterned lattice of Joseon Dynasty period among all those trditional lattices, together with researches on the Nuno felt method used as its expression way conducted, and the procedures are as follows. To begin with, I go into the significance of traditional lattice, along with the origin and changes of lattice out of the inquiry into records, classify them and observe every single feature. Second, I classify the value and the past of the traditional floral-patterned lattice as well as types and features of floral-patterned lattice of Joseon Dynasty period according to its style, analyzing every formative characteristic following the research into pattern and color qualities, and study diverse expression patterns in case of costume design of applied traditional lattice. Third, I arrange a concept of Nuno felt method, studying its features and how-to-make, and analyze the case of its applying to design to show the formative quality of floral-patterned lattice of Joseon Dynasty period. I made eight works applying the formative beauty of floral-patterned lattice and the Nuno felt method on the basis of theoretical studies out of the inquiry into records, and it amounts to this. First, geometrical regularity, systematic and rhythmical beauty of floral-patterned lattice of Joseon Dynasty period turned out to be special qualities successfully applicable to modern costume design. Second, the floral-patterned lattice of Joseon Dynasty period, a kind of costume design motif, is sure enough to create infinite image output depending on basic arrangement method of traditional lattice and the kind of flower. Third, introducing the permeability that the light is transmitted to the floral-patterned lattice of Joseon Dynasty period to design makes it possible to display splendid, refreshing and fantastic image. Fourth, combining Nuno felt with handcrafted cut-out method makes it easy to express the regularity of the floral-patterned lattice and its added gorgeousness and permeability of solid floral decoration. Fifth, obtaining texture effect both gorgeous and unique is found to be possible after joining Nuno felt to burn-out material, while adding embroidery and beading has it feasible to get rich texture effect. To conclude, I'm sure that introducing traditional motive of our own in modern costume gives a complete chance to modernize the traditional beauty we have, makes certain of our identity and then obviously contributes to making our originality well-known in the world. Furthermore not only should we regard traditional material as a sort of ornamental factor of the pattern, but increase the chances of developing creative new design and material from various and unique textures by renewing our recognition of traditional culture and being well aware of distinctive quality of traditional pattern and originality, and I truly hope that can help motivate and elevate the pride in our native culture.; 오늘날 세계는 디자인 다원주의 시대를 맞이하여, 국 내외적으로 과거 어느 때보다 디자인 경쟁이 치열하다. 이러한 디자인 경쟁 속에서 살아남기 위해서는 경쟁에 우위를 점하게 하는 차별화 전략이 필요하다. 그 차별화 전략으로는 우리만이 가지고 있는 정체성을 확립해야한다. 우리 민족의 고유한 문화적 전통을 확립하려는 자성적 노력이 활발히 진행 중이다. 이러한 움직임 속에서, 우리나라의 패션계에서는 전통문화에 대한 새로운 자각으로 인해 많은 디자이너들이 민족의 고유성, 한국적 전통표현을 주제로 한 작품들을 발표함으로써 우리민족의 정체감을 확인시키며 세계무대로 진출을 하고 있다. 우리나라 전통에 대한 재인식과 세계패션무대에 한국미를 인식시킨다는 점에서 의미 있는 일이라 하겠다. 전통이란 민족생활의 역사적 발전 속에서 형성된 정신적 경향이나 성격이 여러 시대를 통하여 전승되어 하나의 규범적 힘을 이루므로써 후대의 문화 창조를 이루는 것이다. 이렇게 전통문화는 창조의 근간이 된다. 이러한 관점에서 볼 때 한국은 긴 역사적 배경과 독특한 고유 문화유산을 가지고 있으므로 훌륭한 문화적 가치를 재발견하여 새롭게 재창출 할 수 있는 가능성이 무한하다. 이에 본 연구에서는 우리의 고유한 문화유산 중 조선시대 꽃창살의 조형미를 분석, 파악하여 그 특성을 표현할 수 있도록 소재와 표현기법을 연구하여 의상디자인에 적용하고자 하였다. 조선시대 꽃창살은 내부 공간에 빛과 공기를 받아들이고 또 조망을 위하여 설치한 시설문이며 건축구조물로서의 창살 기능 뿐 아니라 하나의 조형적이고 공예적인 특성을 지니고 있다. 입체적 꽃창살은 우리 민족의 장인정신과 조형감각을 잘 나타내고 있으며 또한 소박하듯 하면서 화려한, 그리고 규칙적 질서 안에서 그 엄격함을 부드럽게 해소시키는 듯한 입체적 꽃장식은 꽃창살의 독특한 면모를 보여준다. 본 연구는 꽃창살의 조형미를 섬세한 소재기법을 통해 디자인에 접목하여 현대 의상에 한국고유의 독특한 아름다움을 표출시키고 전통적 소재가 지닌 현대 의상디자인 창출의 가능성을 제시함에 목적이 있다. 연구방법으로는 문헌 고찰을 통한 자료를 바탕으로 우리나라 전통창살 중 조선시대 꽃창살을 중심으로 분석하였고 표현기법으로 활용된 누노펠트(Nuno felt)기법에 대하여 연구하였으며 그 절차는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 전통창살의 의미와 창살의 기원과 변천을 문헌고찰을 통해 살펴보고 그 종류를 구분하여 각각의 특징에 대해 알아보았다. 둘째, 전통꽃창살의 의미와 역사, 조선시대 꽃창살의 종류 및 특징을 형태적으로 분류해 살펴보고, 문양과 색채의 특징을 조사한 후 각각의 조형적 특징을 분석하였으며, 전통창살을 응용한 의상디자인 사례를 들어 다양한 표현방법을 살펴보았다. 셋째, 조선시대 꽃창살의 조형성을 표현하기 위해 누노펠트(Nuno felt) 기법의 개념을 정리하고 그 특징과 제작방법을 조사 연구하였으며 디자인에 활용된 사례를 조사 분석하였다. 문헌 고찰을 통한 이론적 연구와 그것을 토대로 하여 꽃창살의 조형미와 누노펠트 기법을 응용한 작품 8벌을 제작하였으며 이를 통해 얻은 결론은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 조선시대 꽃창살이 지니고 있는 기하학적 규칙성과 질서미, 율동미는 현대 의상디자인에 잘 부합될 수 있는 특성임을 알 수 있었다. 둘째, 조선시대 꽃창살은 의상디자인의 모티프로서, 기본 전통창살의 배열방식, 꽃의 종류에 따라 그 자체로서 무한한 이미지 창출이 가능함을 알 수 있었다. 셋째, 조선시대 꽃창살에 빛이 은은히 투과되는 투시성을 디자인에 도입함으로써 화려하고 시원하면서도 환상적인 이미지를 표출시킬 수 있었다. 넷째, 꽃창살의 규칙성과 그 위에 부가되는 입체 꽃장식에 의한 화려함 그리고 투시성은 누노펠트에 수공예적인 컷아웃 기법을 결합시켜 용이하게 표현할 수 있었다. 다섯째, 누노펠트에 번아웃 소재를 결합시킨 결과 화려하면서도 독특한 질감효과를 거둘 수 있었고 자수와 비딩을 첨가함으로 풍부한 질감효과를 가져올 수 있었다. 이러한 결론을 통하여 볼 때 현대 의상에 있어서는 우리 전통적 모티브의 도입은 우리가 지니고 있는 전통적인 미의 현대화를 가능케 하며 우리 민족의 정체감을 확인하고 독창성을 세계에 알리는데 기여할 수 있을 것이라 생각한다. 또한 우리의 전통 소재를 단순히 문양의 장식적인 요소로만 다룰 것이 아니라 전통문화를 재인식하여 전통문양이 지닌 특성과 독창성을 바로 알고 이해함으로써 독창적인 새로운 디자인과 다양하고 독특한 질감의 소재개발 가능성이 확대되고, 이를 통해 고유문화에 대한 자긍심이 고취되고 발전되기를 바란다.
