조선후기 댕기의 조형성을 응용한 의상디자인 연구

Abstract

Today, we are facing an era that quickly absorbs and enjoys diverse culture. Moreover, it is actively being used as a tool to communicate with other nation, past the dimension for individual joy. Such cultural communication is active in modern fashion through unique image expression of the nation one belongs to. Accessory is a tool decorating the body. In other words, there is use for it but one adheres it to the body to make one more beautiful. These accessories directly reflect the characteristics and ideologies of that country, and a study about them is an important role to understand a certain nation. Among many accessories our ancestors loved, Daengi was the most regular and representative hair accessory for unmarried male and female in Chosun dynasty, and is the most important characteristic in the history of clothes and accessories of Chosun dynasty. Daengi is accessory expressing the idea for longevity and happiness, which an important cultural uniqueness in Chosun dynasty, most actively whose studies allow us to peak into the mental life(world) of our ancestors, and I believe it would be an important tool to find our cultural origin. In this perspective, this dissertation aims on expressing the essence of aestheticism that only our people have by identifying the uniqueness of accessory and patterns in the traditional Daengi of Korea and connecting it to modern clothes. As for research content and method, accessory and representative works with creative motive of Chosun dynasty that remains until now were analyzed and its modelistic characteristics were identified, and then connected to all kinds of evening wears(for domestic and international events) whose importance is growing day by day in modern life after deducing most implicating modelistic factors. Moreover, I tried to recreate high added-valuable products by modifying the characteristics and beauty of Daengi to fit modern life by comparing and analyzing utility and expression method for traditional images of modern designers. I produced 8 pieces of outfits through quilt, broidery, beading, and all kinds of tassel decorations. First, as a result of analyzing expressions which were used in Daengi in the late period of Chosun, various techniques were employed in addition to a technique using gold foil, a general design technique. In a northern district, embroidery with splendor color sense was widely used, and diverse forms of embroidery thread ornament were used in Daengi for children in a sense of praying for their longevity. With regard to Daengi for treasure, jewels such as jade, coral, pearl, and orpiment were mixed to add its gorgeousness. Second, it was possible to modernize traditional patterns with direct and strong messages through reorganization of gentle colors and patterns. By expressing the idea of longevity and happiness in a modern style, this researcher got aware that desire of people who live in modern times was not different from the idea and could access our cultural mental world using new expression. Third, gorgeous embroidery was did on a quilt and Daengi motif was embroidered by gold thread, not by gold foil. As the result, it was more three-dimensional and suitable for making dignified dress which is fit for formal place as formal wear. Fourth, all sorts of embroidery thread ornament used on dress in small or large forms added splendor and peculiarity in creating dress applying Daengi motif and they were effective in expressing various images of traditional .Daengi Diverse techniques using embroidery thread ornament can be applied in creating high-grade dress with traditional feelings. Fifth, eight types of Daengi were chosen and analyzed to make dress, which have different motif and design techniques respectively such as embroidery technique, embroidery thread ornament, techniques using varieties of beads. The result of this analysis helped know that it was possible to mix freely formative images extracted from each Daengi and ornamental formative factors, and that it was possible to create different formative images using Gutta-percha resist dyeing and the modern beading technique including jade, coral, pearl, and the seven treasures. Based on such conclusions, introduction of our traditional pattern and decorative technique holding an abstract and symbolic meaning on modern clothes was able to emphasize the creativeness in developing new designs, and raised the competitiveness of our outfits in the world much higher. Diverse expression techniques appearing in Daengi that directly reflects our cultural mental world can be redesigned and recreated in many ways to go along with the phase of modern era, and can be suggested as a new solution to approach development of design demanded in the modern era by inheriting our own unique cultural tradition.;오늘날 우리는 수많은 문화들을 빠르게 흡수하고 향유하는 시대를 맞이하고 있다. 더욱이 그것은 개인적 유희를 위한 차원을 넘어서, 다른 이들과 다른 민족과의 소통을 위한 도구로서 적극적으로 사용 되고 있다. 이러한 문화의 소통 도구로서 패션은 현대사회에서 중요한 역할을 하고 있다. 패션에 있어 그 나라의 고유 특성을 나타낼 수 있는 방법은 여러 가지가 있겠으나, 그중 우리 민족이 오랜 세월 착용해온 전통장신구인 댕기에 관한 연구는 아직 미흡한 실정이다. 장신구는 실용성은 없지만 자신을 미화하기 위해 몸에 부착하는 것을 말한다. 이러한 장신구에는 각 나라마다 그 나라의 특징과 사상이 고스란히 반영되어 있어 그것에 대한 연구는 한 민족을 이해하는데 중요한 역할을 할 수 있다. 우리의 선조들이 애용했던 수많은 장신구들 중에서 댕기는 조선시대 미혼 남녀의 가장 일반적이고 대표적인 머리 장신구이며, 조선시대 의복 및 장신구 역사에 있어서 가장 중요한 특징이라 할 수 있다. 댕기는 조선시대 중요한 문화적 특징으로 중요했던 수복사상이 가장 적극적으로 표현된 장신구로서 이것에 대한 연구는 우리조상들의 정신적 세계를 엿볼 수 있으며, 아울러 우리의 문화 원류를 찾아내는데 있어 중요한 도구가 되리라 생각한다. 이에 본 연구는 한국 전통댕기 속에 나타난 장식과 문양의 특질을 파악하여 현대 복식에 접목하고 우리민족만이 가진 미의식의 본질을 표현함에 그 목적을 두고자 한다. 이를 위해 현재까지 남아있는 조선시대 댕기 중 장식과 모티브가 독창적인 대표적 댕기들을 분석, 조형적 특징을 파악하고, 가장 함축적인 조형요소 추출, 각종 공식 행사에 입을 수 있는 포멀웨어(Formal wear)로 발전시켰다. 또한 현대 디자이너들의 전통 이미지에 대한 활용 및 표현 방법을 비교, 분석하여 댕기 속에 나타난 그 특성과 아름다움을 현대 생활에 맞게 변형하여 고 부가가치의 상품으로 재창조 했다. 누빔, 자수, 구슬장식과 각종 술장식 등의 기법을 통해 총8벌의 의상을 제작 하였으며 이를 통해 얻어진 결론은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 조선후기 댕기에서 나타난 표현 기법을 분석한 결과, 일반적인 장식 기법인 금박기법 이외에 여러 가지 기법이 사용되었다. 북방지역에서는 화려한 색감의 자수를 많이 사용하였고, 어린이용 댕기에서는 아이의 장수를 기원하는 의미에서 다양한 형태로 수실 장식이 사용되었다. 또한 예장용 댕기에서는 옥과 산호, 진주, 석웅황과 같은 보석장식이 혼용되어 그 화려함을 더했다. 둘째, 직접적이고 강한 메시지의 전통 문양을 부드러운 색채와 문양의 재구성을 통해 현대화가 가능하였다. 건강과 부귀장수를 바라는 수복사상의 현대적 표현을 통해 현대를 살아가는 우리의 바람이 옛날의 그것과 다르지 않음을 알고 우리 문화적 정신세계를 새로운 표현으로 접근 할 수 있었다. 셋째, 누빔 위에 화려한 자수를 하고 댕기 모티브를 금박인 아닌 금사로 수 처리 한 것은 그 결과가 보다 입체적 이었으며 포멀웨어로서 격식 있는 자리에서 입을 수 있는 기품 있는 의상으로 만드는데 적합하였다. 넷째, 의상에 크고 작은 다양한 형태로 사용된 각종 수실 장식은 댕기 모티브를 응용한 의상 표현에 있어 화려함과 독특함을 더했으며 전통 댕기의 다양한 이미지를 표현하는데 있어 효과적 이었다. 수실 장식의 다양한 표현기법은 전통 느낌을 살리면서도 고급스러운 의상을 제작하는 연구에 있어 다양한 방법으로 응용될 수 있겠다. 다섯째, 의상 제작을 위해 자수 기법, 수실장식, 각종 구슬장식 기법 등 각기 다른 모티브와 장식기법을 지닌 8가지 댕기를 선택, 분석한 결과 각 댕기에서 추출한 형태적 이미지 및 장식적 조형요소들 간에 자유로운 혼용이 가능하고, 구타염 작업과 옥, 산호, 진주, 칠보 등의 현대적 비딩 기법을 통해 또 다른 조형적 이미지 창조가 가능함을 알 수 있었다. 이러한 결론을 바탕으로 추상적이고 상징적인 의미를 지닌 우리의 전통 문양 및 장식 기법의 현대 복식에 대한 도입은 새로운 디자인 개발에 있어 독창성을 부각시킬 수 있으며, 세계 속에서 우리 의상의 경쟁력을 높일 수 있다. 우리의 문화적 정신세계가 고스란히 반영된 댕기 속에 나타난 다양한 표현 기법은 현대의 시대상에 맞추어 다양하게 재구성되고 재창조 될 수 있으며, 이는 사라져 가는 민족 고유의 문화적 전통을 계승하면서도 현대 시대에서 요구되는 디자인 개발에 접근하는 새로운 대안으로 제시될 수 있다.
