Abstract
There has been an intriguing, current controversy on the involvement of multiple oxidizing species in oxygen atom transfer reactions by cytochromes P450 and iron porphyrin models. The primary evidence for the 'multiple oxidants' theory was that products and/or product distributions observed in the catalytic oxygenations were different depending on reaction conditions. In the present work, we carried out competitive olefin epoxidation and alkane hydroxylation with in situ-generated oxoiron(Ⅳ) porphyrin π-cation radicals bearing different axial ligands and found that the products and product distributions were markedly different depending on the axial ligands. These results demonstrate that oxoiron(Ⅳ) porphyrin π-cation radicals under different circumstances can exhibit diverse reactivity patterns, leading us to propose that the observed in the catalytic reactions by iron porphyrin models might not arise from the involvement of multiple oxidizing species but from oxoiron(Ⅳ) porphyrin π-cation radicals under different reaction conditions. Further, this study provides the first experimental evidence that oxoiron(Ⅳ) porphyrin π-cation radicals can behave like a 'chameleon oxidant' that changes its reactivity and selectivity under the influence of environmental changes. Mononuclear heme and nonheme oxoiron(Ⅳ) complexes carry out oxidative N-demethylation; the rate-limiting electron transfer mechanism coupled with a proton transfer is supported by the mechanistic details including intra-, inter-, and solvent kinetic isotope effects..;Cytochrome P450와 iron porphyrin model에 의한 산소 원자 전달 반응에서 multiple oxidizing species에 대한 논란이 활발하게 진행되고 있다.
