J. Brahms Viola Sonata No.1 in F minor에 관한 분석 및 연구

Abstract

The purpose of the study is an analysis and study on the Viola Sonata Brahms Sonata for Viola and Piano Op. 120 No. 1 in F minor composed at the latest among the chamber music works of Johannes Brahms. (1833-1897) Brahms, one of the leading Romantic era composers, built neoclassicism by reviving the clarity of traditional classicalism such as Johann Sebastian Bach and Ludwig van Beethoven in the rapidly changing music trend of the Romantic era. He rejected the Program music of the Romanticism and pursued the absolute of the classicism. J.Brahms composed a significant number oh works in traditional genres such as symphonies, concertos, and chamber music, instead of composing operas. However, simultaneously, he demonstrated a dualistic inclination, embodying Romantic sentiments within his music. While rejecting the Romanticist musical style, Brahms's compositions often reveal elements of Romanticism, reinterpreted through various musical techniques and components. J.Brahms composed a total of 24 chamber music works, among which the "Brahms Sonata for Viola and Piano Op. 120, No. 1 in F minor" stands as one of his later works. This piece was dedicated to the clarinetist Richard Mühlfeld (1856-1907) in 1894 by Brahms, 55 who showed affection for the clarinet. It was composed as a song and then directly arranged and published as a work for viola. Therefore, this piece is structured into four movements based on Classical form. The first movement, Allegro appassionato, is composed in the traditional Classical sonata form. The second movement, Andante in poco Adagio, is characterized by a slow tempo and a lyrical melody in ternary form. The third movement, a fast-paced scherzo, follows a compound ternary form. The fourth movement, Vivace, adopts a fast rondo form. This composition exemplifies Brahms' mature and distinctive compositional style, seamlessly blending elements of Classical and Romantic music, which are characteristic features of his chamber music. The interplay between the viola and piano parts demonstrates a harmonious integration of musical techniques.;본 논문은 요하네스 브람스(Johannes Brahms, 1833~1897)의 실내악 작품 중 후기에 작곡한 비올라 소나타〈Brahms Sonata for Viola and Piano Op. 120, No.1 in F minor〉에 대한 분석 및 연구이다. 브람스는 독일 낭만주의 작곡가 중 가장 중요하게 평가 받는 낭만주의 작곡가 중 한 명이다. 그는 낭만시대의 급변하는 음악 사조에 바흐, 베토벤과 같은 전통적인 고전주의의 명맥을 되살려 신고전주의를 구축하였다. 낭만파에서 빈번하게 시도하던 표제음악을 거부하고 고전파의 절대음악을 추구해서 오페라를 작곡하지 않고 주로 교향곡, 협주곡, 실내악 등의 전통적인 장르의 곡들을 많이 작곡하였다. 하지만 동시에 낭만주의적인 감성을 지닌 이원적 성향을 볼 수 있는데 낭만파의 음악어법을 재해석하면서 다양한 음악기법과 요소들이 그의 음악에서 나타난다. 브람스는 총 24곡의 실내악곡을 작곡하였는데 그 중〈Brahms Sonata for Viola and Piano Op.120, No.1 in F minor〉는 가장 후기 작품이다. 본래는 클라리넷을 위한 소나타 No.1,2로 작곡되었으나 후에 작곡가 자신이 비올라를 위한 작품으로 편곡 후 출판하였다. 본 논문에서는 Viola Sonata 1번의 작품 배경과 Brahms의 음악적 특징, 각 악장에서의 음악 기법들을 분석해서 곡 해석에 도움이 되고자 한다.
