Abstract

본 논문은 본인의 석사과정 졸업연주 프로그램 곡목들로 구성돼 요한 세바스찬 바흐(Johann Sebastian Bach, 1685-1750)의 <Violin Partita No.2 in d minor, S.1004>, 루드비히 반 베토벤(Ludwig van Beethoven, 1770-1872)의 <Violin Sonata No.8 in G Major, Op.30, 폴 션필드(Paul Schoenfield, 1947-2024)의 <Four Souvenirs for Violin and Piano>를 필두로 세 명의 작곡가와 그에 대한 작품에 대한 연구이다. 바흐는 오르간 연주자이자 작곡가로서 바로크시대의 특징에 한 획을 그은 작곡가로 교회음악과 세속음악을 아우르고 있다. 특히 그 중 바흐의 <Violin Partita No.2 in d minor, BWV.1004>는 바흐의 바로크 시대에 특징을 볼 수 있는 대위법적 요소와 푸가 작곡 기법이 들어간 것을 볼 수 있으며 화성의 진행 구조가 뚜렷하게 보이는 곡이다. 그 중 마지막 악장인 샤콘느는 대중적으로 많이 알려져 있기도 하다. 베토벤은 고전시대와 낭만시대를 잇는 잘 알려진 작곡가로 그의 작품은 3가지 시기로 나뉘는데 그 중 <Violin Sonata No.8 in G Major, Op.30>은 1기에서 2기로 넘어가는 시기로 1802년에 작곡돼 당시 전통적인 소나타 형식과는 달리 피아노와 바이올린의 비중이 동등하도록 작곡되었다. 이 점은 각 악장별로 바이올린 주선율을 피아노와 주고받거나 유니즌 형식을 통해 알 수 있다. 베토벤의 소나타를 화성분석을 통해 곡의 진행을 연구하며 그의 음악적 특징을 알 수 있다. 폴 션필드는 피아니스트이자 작곡가로 현대 작곡가로서 많은 포크음악, 재즈음악 등 여러 다양한 장르를 작곡했고 그는 일생에 있어 유대음악과 깊은 관련이 있다. 그런 그의 곡인 <Four Souvenirs for Violin and Piano>는 1990년 레브 폴라킨(Lev Polyakin)의 의뢰로 작곡되었고 이 작품은 재즈 어법뿐만 아니라 다양한 리듬을 시도한 모습을 보이며 각 악장마다 1910-1930년대 미국에서 유행했던 삼바, 탱고, 틴 판 앨리, 스퀘어 댄스가 삽입되어 미국 대중 음악의 특징적인 모습을 볼 수 있다;The purpose of this study encompasses the repertoire from my Master’s graduation recital, including works by Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750), Ludwig van Beethoven (1770-1827), and Paul Schoenfield (1947-2024). The pieces studied are J. S. Bach’s 『Violin Partita No.2 in d minor, BWV 1004』, L. v. Beethoven’s 『Violin Sonata No.8 in G Major, Op.30』, and P. Schoenfield’s 『Four Souvenirs for Violin and Piano』. Johann Sebastian Bach, an eminent organist and composer, played a pivotal role in shaping the Baroque era, with contributions spanning both sacred and secular music. The 『Violin Partita No.2 in d minor, BWV 1004』is a quintessential example of Baroque music, featuring intricate contrapuntal elements and sophisticated fugue composition techniques. The harmonic structure is distinctly articulated, and the final movement, the Ciaccona, is particularly renowned. Ludwig van Beethoven, a key figure in bridging the Classical and Romantic periods, has a body of work divided into three distinct periods. The 『Violin Sonata No.8 in G Major, Op.30』 Composed in 1802, exemplifies the transition from Beethoven’s early to middle period. This work is notable for its deviation from the traditional sonata from of the time, granting equal prominence to both the piano and violin. Each movement highlights L. v. Beethoven’s signature romantic melodies and distinct musical characteristics. Paul Schoenfield, a contemporary pianist and composer, has produced a diverse oeuvre encompassing genres such as folk and jazz music, with a profound connection to Jewish musical traditions. The『Four Souvenirs for Violin and Piano』composed in 1990 at the behest of Lev Polyakin, showcases the distinctive elements of American popular music from the 1910s to the 1930s in each movement. This thesis aims to provide an in-depth analysis of these works, exploring their historical contexts, compositional techniques, and performance practices, thereby offering a comprehensive understanding of the contributions of these three composers to the violin and piano repertoire.
