트윌 데님을 활용한 패션디자인 연구

Abstract

현대에는 예술과 패션을 구분하지 않고 하나의 표현 매개체로 사용된다. 패션이 하나의 예술작품으로 표현되며 시대적 흐름에 맞춰 끊임없이 발전하고 변화하며 시각적인 호기심을 자극한다. 패션은 미래에 대한 예측이 필수적이며 새롭고 아름다움을 추구하며 창조 하는 심미성과 탐미성이 필수적인 분야이다. 개인의 독창성과 시대적, 문화적, 환경적 측면도 패션에 포함된다고 볼 수 있다. 기존에 존재한 무언가를 모방, 응용, 활용하여 새롭고 창의적인 것을 만들어 나가며 해석하는 것은 패션 분야에서 필수적인 요소이다. 다양한 패션의 표현기법은 실험과 탐색을 거쳐 연구하고 새로운 것을 창조해 낼 수 있는 효과적인 디자인의 원천이다. 현대패션은 예술성과 독창성을 지향하며 기존의 표현방식을 넘어서 다양한 기법을 응용해 새로운 것을 창조해 나가야한다. 본 연구에서는 트윌 데님과 테이핑 기법을 활용하여 시각적인 효과를 극대화시킬 수 있는 실험적이며 창의적인 소재를 개발하여 패션 영역에서의 표현기법을 확장 시키고자한다. 본 연구의 내용은 문헌을 통한 이론적 분석을 통해 데님과 테이핑 기법의 종류 및 특징을 살펴보고 이를 활용하여 소재 연구를 진행하고 이를 패션디자인에 접목 하고자한다. 본 연구에 이론적 분석을 바탕으로 얻은 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 데님의 개념과 조직에 따라 3가지의 데님으로 분류되는 것을 알 수 있다. 그 중 트윌 데님은 직조의 방향에 따라 데님의 종류가 5가지로 나뉘며 그에 따른 형태와 특징을 살펴 볼 수 있다. 둘째, 테이프의 개념에 대해 살펴본 후, 대표적인 테이핑 기법 테이프 엠브로이더리, 바인딩, 콜라주, 패치워크, 위빙, 프린징, 네팅 총 7가지의 테이핑 기법의 종류의 특징을 고찰 했다. 또한, 테이프의 고정 유형에 대해서도 살펴 볼 수 있었다. 테이프의 특성상 얇고 유연한 테이프는 중심고정, 한쪽고정, 양쪽끝 고정에 따라 평면적, 입체적인 형태가 보인다. 셋째, 데님과 테이핑 기법을 활용한 현대패션디자인의 사례를 이미지로 살펴보며 데님의 색상, 종류에 따라 다양하게 활용되며 데님의 특징을 활용하여 의상제작 뿐만 아니라 기법을 적용하여 장식적인 소재로 활용 되는 것도 알 수 있다. 유래가 깊고 종류가 다양한 데님과 테이핑 기법이 현대패션에 꾸준하게 사용되고 있는 것을 알 수 있다. 본 연구에 작품 제작 연구를 바탕으로 얻은 결론은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 트윌 데님의 종류와 특징 연구를 바탕으로 레프트 핸드 트윌 데님의 특징이 소재개발에 적합한 원단이라는 것을 알 수 있으며 이를 활용하여 테이프 소재를 제작했다. 폭이 넓은 테이프와 폭이 좁은 테이프의 양쪽 끝에 1cm씩 올을 풀어주고 좁은 테이프는 가로로 잘라 녋은 테이프에 중첩시켜 자른 부분을 뒷면의 원단 색이 보이게 넘겨주면서 고정하면 새로운 소재를 제작 할 수 있다. 둘째, 트윌 데님의 원단을 가로, 세로로 자르면 올 풀림의 색상이 각각 검정색, 흰색으로 보이고 원단의 앞면과 뒷면을 사용 하여 버려지는 원단 없이 사용이 가능한 것을 알 수 있다. 셋째, 제작한 테이프는 작품에 맞춰 테이핑 콜라주, 테이핑 위빙 기법을 활용하고 테이프를 중심고정, 한쪽고정, 양쪽 끝 고정으로 테이핑 기법이 규칙 또는 불규칙적인 형태로 보이게 드레이핑 하며 디자인을 전개 할 수 있었다. 본 연구는 트윌 데님과 테이핑 기법에 대해 이해하고, 관련된 현대 패션디자인의 사례들을 살펴본 후 트윌 데님을 활용하여 새로운 소재를 개발한다. 이후 트윌 데님으로 제작한 테이프 소재는 다양한 테이핑 기법을 활용 가능하므로 소재, 특성, 디자인, 표현 방법 등에 많은 연구를 통해 실험적이며 창의적인 소재를 개발하고 패션디자인 영역에서의 표현기법을 확장한다.;Modern fashion strives to create new things, seeking a curiosity about the future and embracing originality. It is influenced by art, fashion, architecture, the environment, and culture, aiming to express and discover individual identity and a free spirit. This study aims to develop experimental and creative materials by combining twill denim and taping techniques to maximize visual effects. The goal is to expand expressive techniques by applying these materials in the field of fashion. Particularly, using twill denim, the study proposes the creation and development of tape materials, focusing on taping techniques, and suggests four different styles of artwork production. The results obtained from the theoretical analysis in this study are as follows: First, denim can be broadly classified into three categories based on the concept and organization: twill weave denim, plain weave denim, and jacquard denim. Specifically, within twill denim, there are five subtypes—light hand twill denim, left-hand twill denim, broken twill denim, zigzag twill denim, and herringbone twill denim—each with distinct forms and characteristics. Second, the concept and types of tape were classified and analyzed. Seven representative types of taping techniques were identified: tape embroidery, binding, collage, patchwork, weaving, fringing, and netting. In this study, it was observed that the use of taping collage and weaving techniques is particularly suitable. Third, a detailed examination of the types and characteristics of taping revealed that depending on the type of tape fixation, it can be categorized into flat and three-dimensional forms. Specifically, the fixation of tape at the center, one side, or both ends results in various forms, as evident from the specific cases and analyses. Fourth, examining cases of modern fashion design utilizing denim and taping techniques, it was observed that the characteristics of materials, colors, techniques, and types allow for diverse expressions and a continuous emergence of new forms. Despite being a technique with deep roots, it is evident that taping is consistently and creatively employed in various ways, showcasing its versatility and enduring relevance in contemporary fashion design. Based on the research on artwork production, the conclusions are as follows: Firstly, utilizing fabric that exhibits the characteristics of left-hand twill denim based on the concepts, types, and features of twill denim and types of taping techniques, it was possible to create a new form of tape through various experiments. Secondly, considering the fabric characteristics required for tape production, cutting in the weft direction resulted in fraying in black color when cut, allowing for desired length cutting. Cutting in the warp direction showed fraying in white color. It was observed that the maximum length of the tape is 150cm, indicating that there is no waste fabric in material development and design. Thirdly, a new material was created by making tape from the fabric of twill denim that frays. Two types of tape were needed: one with a wide width that shows fraying when overlapped and another with a narrow width that creates a grid pattern. Both tapes had fraying on both sides by 1cm, and by layering the two, a single tape with a new pattern could be produced. Fourthly, the produced tapes, when draped either systematically or irregularly to suit the artwork, revealed the need to consider various ways of expression, starting from a flat arrangement where the form of the created tape is visible. This can then transition into three-dimensional displays and be secured in place. Fifthly, by leveraging the characteristics of left-hand twill denim among the types of twill denim fabrics, only one color of fabric was used. Utilizing the characteristic of having different colors on the front and back of the fabric, a single fabric was developed, and the four outfits of the artworks used the front and back of the same fabric for uniformity. The produced tapes could be applied to the artworks using tape collage and tape weaving techniques according to the needs of the pieces. Modern fashion seeks artistic and innovative expression, going beyond conventional methods and applying various techniques to create something new. Utilizing the characteristics and features of twill denim as well as the expressive methods of taping techniques, it is expected that through diverse and creative applications, the fashion industry will advance beyond existing expression techniques, fostering development through new experiments and research in the field of contemporary fashion design.
