여름의 소리

Abstract

본 연구는 여름마다 들리는 특징적인 매미의 소리와, 진동으로부터 오는 자극이 어떻게 시각화 될 것인가에 대한 연구 과정을 분석하고 서술하고자 한 다. 연구자의 귀에는 여름의 수많은 소리들 중 유독 매미소리만 특별하게 들린다. 중학교 1학년이었던 연구자는 여름 하복을 입고 등교를 하던 중이었다. 하필이면 커다란 매미 한 마리가 죽어가던 순간에 나무에서 연구자의 몸으로 떨어졌다. 날개를 움직이지도 못한 체 온 몸을 떨어대던 매미는 몸에서 떼어 내려 하면 할 수록 연구자의 피부에 눌러 붙었고, 죽어가는 과정에서 굉음과 같은 울음소리를 만들어 냈고 그 순간 연구자의 귓가에는 매미의 거대한 울음 소리 이외에 모든 소리가 들리지 않게 되는 경험을 한다. 연구자는 어느 순간부터 여름이 다가오면 귀가 쫑긋 서는 듯한 기분을 느낀다. 과거의 기억 이후로 여름이 찾아와 매미가 울기 시작하면, 연구자에게 평범했던 일상의 소리는 모두 잡음으로 바뀌고 오직 매미의 울음소리에만 굉장히 집중하게 된다. 하나만 들리고 한 곳으로만 집중하게 된다. 그 소리에 계속해서 빠져들다 보니 문득 본인에게 계절을 알아차리는 신호처럼 다가오기 시작했다. 사계절 중에서 연구자의 몸의 감각이 가장 곤두서게 만드는 여름의 자극이 온 몸으로 증폭되고 이내 사라진다. 가장 강렬했지만 이내 사라지게 될 여름의 소리를 시각화 하여 기록하다 보니 어느덧 매미의 소리가 사라지고 새로운 계절이 찾아온다. 그렇게 여름은 연구자에게 색다른 의미를 갖게 되었으며 한 해가 지나고 되돌아올 계절을 기다리기 시작했다. 매미 소리의 주파수는 소리 중 사람이 민감하게 들을 수 잇는 주파수 대역대에 걸쳐 있어 사람의 귀에 유독 잘 들린다는 특징을 갖고 있다. 하지만 연구자는 매미 소리를 특별하게 인식하게 된 것을 단지 소리로서 가 아니라 신호로 받아들인다. 연구자는 신호처럼 떠오른 매미 울음소리를 ‘여름의 소리라 부르기 시작하였다. 본 연구에서는 연구자에게 신호처럼 찾아오는 소리와 진동에 대한 분석과 매미소리의 특징에 관하여 알아보고 표현적인 연구로 연구자에게 표식을 남기고 쌓여가는 여름의 소리와 진동을 시각화 하는 방법을 서술한다.;This study includes the process of recognizing and visualizing specific sounds stored in researcher's memory. In every summer, there was a sound that is like an exceptionally special signal to me. This particular sound was originated from the sound of cicadas. I intend to express the specific sounds and vibrations of summer cicadas in painting and this have been repeated in every season. Cicadas appear in summer and gradually disappear toward the end of autumn. At the same time, the researcher's work also produces the largest number of artworks in summer, and the sense of sound gradually becomes lower. Inspired by the sound of summer, I thought about the way, how to reveal the process of amplifying the seething sensation. For the method of expression, it leads to a experiment of the expression of methodology for the process of visualizing the vibration of summer sound. This visual methodology is explained by dividing it into filling the screen by listing it and making a soft contact in the process. The purpose of the study is to be reacting sensitively and accepting the senses that comes from summer and finding the meaning to reflect on what the "sound of summer" is to me.
