맥(脈)에 내재한 꽃과 인간의 생명력에 관한 은유적 표현 연구

Abstract

생명력은 생명체 내부의 지속적인 운동과 변화를 통해 생성되는 생명 에너지를 의미한다 이러한 . 생명 현상의 통로로서 꽃과 인간 삶 내면에 존재하는 ‘맥(脈)’이라는 개념을 시각 표현의 상징적 체계로 삼고자 한다. 그 이유는 맥이라는 상징적 체계를 통해 내적 심상을 표출할 수 있으며, 이를 시각적 표현으로 나타낼 수 있기 때문이다. 즉, 생명체 내면에 존재하는 추상적 개념의 생명력을 ‘맥’이라는 유기적 선의 이미지로 의미적, 형태적 해석을 통한 유사성을 찾을 수 있다. 생명의 근원적 형상의 ‘맥’이 지닌 형태는 매우 추상적이므로 실체를 구분하기 어렵다. 따라서 ‘맥’이라는 유기적 형상의 의미적 해석과 형태적 해석을 통해 분석한 개념이론을 바탕으로 꽃과 인간 삶의 ‘생명의 흐름’을 수사법 중 하나인 은유를 통해 시각화함 으로써 생명력의 의미를 표현하고자 한다. 과거부터 꽃과 인간의 관계는 동서양의 관점을 통해 인간의 원초적 모습, 사회적, 내적 심상 등을 은유로 표현되어 왔다. 대상의 의미 해석을 통한 시각 표현이 주된 목적이었으며 주관적 해석을 통해 은유적 표현 방식을 시각적으로 변형하고 재구성하였다. 대표적으로, 은유 표현 작가인 조지아 오키프(Geogia O’keeffe)의 작품에 나타난 꽃의 형태는 유동적인 곡선의 은유를 통해 조형적 언어로 환원시킴 으로써 작가의 시각과 감상자의 시각에 이중적 의미를 제시한다. 이는 사실적 묘사보다 형태와 구도를 추상적으로 재구성한 표현이 부각되며, 개별적 형태를 강조하여 확대함으로써 존재가 두드러진다. 즉, 예술 표현 중 하나의 방식인 은유는 생생한 시각적 이미지를 전달하며, 작가의 심상과 정서적 개념을 내포한다. 감상자의 관점에서 본인의 심상과 작품의 의미를 연관 지어 개인적 관점, 사상, 공통점 등을 자신의 가치 판단으로 이해하고자 하였다. 연구자는 꽃과 인간 삶의 ‘맥’은 의미적 해석과 형태적 해석의 두 가지 의미로 나누어 분석할 수 있었다. 의미적 해석으로는 생명체 내부 조직의 끊임없는 순환 흐름에 내재한 생명력으로 생명을 유지할 수 있는 기능을 의미한다. 즉, 생명체의 본질적 기능을 유지하는 ‘생명의 흐름’은 꽃의 성장과 인간 삶 내부에서 흐르는 ‘맥’의 변화를 나타내는 것이다. 형태적 해석으로는 사물 따위가 서로 이어져 있는 관계나 모습으로 조직적으로 연결된 선의 이미지를 나타낸다. 꽃의 물과 영양분을 공급해 주는 통로의 ‘잎맥’과 인간의 피가 흐르는 줄기로서 ‘혈관’으로 예를 들 수 있다. ‘잎맥’과 ‘혈관’은 다양한 굵기의 가느다란 그물 형태의 줄기가 곡선으로 이루어진 형상이다. 따라서 ‘맥’은 생명과 밀접한 관련이 있는 단어로 의미적, 형태적 해석이 가능하며 같은 어원에서 파생되어 글자의 음(音)과 같으나 두 가지 이상의 뜻을 가진 ‘다의어(多義語)’라고 할 수 있다. 연구자는 예술사적으로 은유를 통해 내면 의식을 시각적 표현 매체로 구체화할 수 있었으며, 꽃과 인간에 내재한 생명력을 ‘맥’으로 시각화하는 표현 방법에 있어서 예술적 학문의 연장선상(延長線上)에서 착안한 염색 기법 중 세밀한 선 표현을 통해 시각화하고자 하였다. 즉, 염 료를 반복적으로 덧칠하는 표현 과정에서 겹겹이 쌓이는 선을 통해 무 정형적으로 변화하는 맥의 생명력을 생동감 있게 표현하였다. 본 연구를 통해 생명체에 대한 생명의 근원을 깊이 있게 탐구해 봄으로써 꽃과 인간 삶의 관계를 진정성 있게 관찰할 수 있는 계기가 되었다. 이를 바탕으로 추상적 의미의 ‘생명력’을 특정 대상인 ‘맥’에 내포시켜 은유적 선 표현 외에 본인의 심상에서 비롯된 표현들이 더해진 창작 활동의 새로운 기틀을 마련하는 데에 의의를 두었다. 또한, 염색 표현 기법의 후속 연구를 통해 추상적 의미를 상징적 체계를 통해 시각화함에 따라 미적 가치를 재인식하고자 하며 염색 예술 분야에 중첩을 통한 은유적 선 표현을 제시하고자 한다.;Vitality refers to the life energy produced through continuous motion and changes within living organisms. The ‘Vein (脈 ) ’ acts as a channel for these life phenomena and can be seen as a symbolic representation of this vitality. The abstract concept of ‘vitality’ mirrors an individual’s inner imagery through symbolic objects, and its full subjective significance becomes apparent when visualized. Specifically, one can identify formal similarities in the abstract concept of vitality present in both flowers and the inner life of humans when observed through the organic line termed ‘Vein’. The intrinsic form of ‘Vein’ that represents the essence of life is highly abstract, making its concrete nature difficult to define. Based on the semantic and morphological interpretations of this organic form known as ‘vein’, the study aimed to visualize the ‘flow of life’ in flowers and human life using the rhetorical device of metaphor. Historically, the relationship between flowers and humans has been depicted metaphorically across both Eastern and Western perspectives, highlighting humans’ fundamental nature, societal dynamics, and internal imagery. The primary focus was on visual representation through semantic interpretation, where metaphors were visually modified and restructured based on individual perceptions. Significantly, the floral forms present in the works of Georgia O’Keeffe offer dual meanings to both the artist and the viewer through the metaphor of flowing curves. This representation places an emphasis on an abstract reconfiguration of form and composition over direct representation. By magnifying distinct forms, their inherent essence stands out. Within artistic expression, the metaphor conveys a vivid visual image, reflecting the artist’s personal imagery and emotional notions. From the viewer’s perspective, there’s an inclination to associate their inner imagery with the artwork’s meaning, leading to an understanding shaped by individual viewpoints, beliefs, shared attributes, and value judgments. The researcher identified that the ‘vein’ present in flowers and human life can be analyzed through two distinct interpretations: semantic and morphological. From a semantic standpoint, the ‘vein’ signifies the vital energy inherent in the continuous circulatory flow within an organism’s structure, crucial for its sustenance. This ‘flow of life’ symbolizes the transformations seen in the ‘vein’ during the growth of flowers and the internal experiences of human life. Morphologically, the ‘vein’ represents a configuration where entities are interconnected, appearing as a systematically connected image or line. Examples include the ‘leaf vein (脈 ) ’ in flowers that transports water and nutrients, and the ‘blood vessels’ in humans responsible for circulating blood essential for life. Both the ‘leaf vein’ and ‘blood vessels’ display intricate mesh-like patterns with curved stems of varied thicknesses. Thus, the term ‘vein’ is deeply associated with life, allowing for both semantic and morphological interpretations. While derived from the same origin and sharing phonetic characteristics, it can be labeled as a ‘polysemic word (多義語 ) ’, bearing multiple meanings. Artistically, the researcher was able to express inner consciousness visually using metaphors. In the process of visually conveying the inherent vitality in flowers and human life via the ‘vein’, inspiration came from artistic disciplines, focusing on a dyeing technique that emphasizes detailed line representations. Specifically, the evolving nature of the vein was vividly depicted by layering the dye solution (染液 ) repetitively. This research facilitated an in-depth exploration of life’s origin in living entities, affording an authentic insight into the interrelation between flowers and the nuances of human existence. Using this foundation, significance was placed on establishing a fresh perspective for artistic creation, incorporating the abstract concept of ‘vitality’ within the specific subject of ‘vein’, further enriched by personal expressions. In addition, in future dyeing research, the researcher intends to reevaluate and emphasize the aesthetic value by visually presenting abstract concepts through symbolic entities, aiming to introduce refined metaphorical line expressions to the art of dyeing.
