레이 가와쿠보 컬렉션에 나타난 초현실주의 표현 특징 연구

Abstract

현대 예술은 전통적인 미학의 개념과 소재가 지닌 고정관념을 파괴하고 지속적으로 새로움을 추구하려는 경향을 보여왔다. 이런 새로움의 추구는 상상력을 통해 대상이나 주제를 새롭게 바라보는 시각에서 출발한다. 이런 상상력을 통한 새로운 시각은 1차 세계 대전 후 인간의 이성과 합리성에 반기를 들며 새로운 대안으로 떠오른 초현실주의를 탄생시켰다. 초현실주의는 지그문트 프로이트의 정신분석학의 영향을 받아 인간의 꿈과 환상, 무의식 속의 억압된 욕망을 표현하는 20세기 문학 예술 사조이다. 반 이성, 반 예술을 표방하는 다다이즘에 뿌리를 두며, 전통적 사실주의 예술을 부정하고 비이성적, 비합리적, 비논리적인 상상의 공간에서 인간의 진정한 자유를 추구하며 정신의 해방을 목적으로 하는 역사적 아방가르드 예술운동이다.이 연구는 끊임없이 새로움을 추구하는 인간이 싫증내지 않고 오랫동안 사랑해 온 초현실주의 작품의 힘에 관한 호기심에서 출발하였다. 본 연구의 목적은 리차드 마틴의 분류를 통해 레이 가와쿠보 컬렉션에 나타난 초현실주의 표현 특징을 살펴봄으로써 초현실주의의 지속적인 영향을 밝히는 데 있다. 본 연구의 결론은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 현대 패션에 나타나는 초현실주의 표현 특징은 리차드 마틴의 분류에 의해 은유와 변형, 몸과 몸의 부분, 자연적 세계와 비자연적 세계, 이동과 착시, 트롱프뢰유로 구분하였고, 그 중 트롱프뢰유가 가장 많이 나타나고 있음을 확인하였다. 둘째, 위의 현대 패션의 사례분석을 통해 1930년대 태동한 초현실주의 패션이 현재까지 지속됨을 알 수 있었고 이를 통해 초현실주의의 지속적인 영향을 확인할 수 있었다. 셋째, 레이 가와쿠보 컬렉션에 나타난 초현실주의 표현 특징은 리차드 마틴의 분류를 기준으로 은유와 변형, 몸과 몸의 부분, 자연적 세계와 비자연적 세계, 이동과 착시, 트롱프뢰유로 구분하였고, 그 중 변형이 가장 많이 나타난 것을 알 수 있었다. 넷째, 레이 가와쿠보 컬렉션은 초현실성이 짙어지는 2014년대 이후부터는 형태가 거대해졌고 색상은 네온 칼라 등의 사용으로 볼드하고 다채로워졌으며 패턴은 가와이, 즉 귀여워져서 전반적으로 환상적, 동화적, 초현실적인 분위기를 나타내어 초현실주의의 지속적인 영향을 확인할 수 있었다. 다섯째, 현대 의상에 나타난 초현실주의 표현 특징은 한 의상에 한 개 이상의 표현 특징이 나타나고 있음을 확인할 수 있었다. 레이 가와쿠보의 은밀하고 모호한 컬렉션은 정답이 없는 다양한 해석과 보는 사람의 참여를 유도하여 상호작용을 하는 개념패션을 추구한다. 또한 의상의 공간감을 통해서 신체를 해방시키고 자유를 부여한다. 이 공간은 이항대립구조의 융합이 일어나는 하나의 통합된 세계를 구축하는 곳으로 초현실의 공간으로 규정한다. 서양 미학의 환상 파괴, 고정관념을 깨는 도전정신, 전통을 무너뜨리는 혁신, 새로움을 추구하는 레이 가와쿠보는 무의식의 심연에서 인류의 보편적인 정서인 기쁨과 슬픔, 희망과 공포, 분노와 두려움 등을 끌어내었다. 이로써 이항대립 사이의 경계가 모호해지며 융합되는 초현실적 공간에서 완곡하고 풍부하고 위트있게 레이 가와쿠보만의 비합리적인 상상력을 비대칭 등의 과장되고 부조화롭게 전위적으로 구현하였다. 본 연구는 현실을 바라보는 사고와 시각을 확장시켜 관습적인 사고의 일탈을 유도한 레이 가와쿠보의 작품에 관해 고찰하였다. 이런 시도가 생각과 해석을 불러 일으키는 개념적인 패션 작품을 이해하는데 기여할 수 있기를 기대한다.;Contemporary art has a tendency to constantly seek novelty and dismantle the stereotypes of traditional aesthetic concepts and materials. Its pursuit of novelty is often based on unconventional perspectives of objects or subjects using imagination. This new perspective, through imagination, gave birth to Surrealism, which emerged as a new alternative to human reasoning and rationality after the First World War. Surrealism is a 20th-century literary and artistic movement influenced by Sigmund Freud's psychoanalysis that expresses human dreams, fantasies, and repressed desires. It is a historical avant-garde art movement rooted in Dadaism—which stands for anti-rationality and anti-art. Surrealism aims to liberate the spirit by denying traditional realist art and pursuing true human freedom in the irrational and illogical space of the imagination. This study is motivated by curiosity about the power of Surrealist works, which have long been favored by humans who constantly seek newness.This study aims to reveal the enduring influence of Surrealism by examining the characteristics of Surrealist expressions in the Rei Kawakubo Collection using Richard Martin's classification. The conclusions of this study are as follows: First, the surrealistic expressive features in contemporary fashion were categorized by Richard Martin into metaphor and transformation, body and body parts, natural world and unnatural world, movement and optical illusion, and trompe l'oeil, with trompe l'oeil being the most prevalent. Second, through the case analysis of contemporary fashion, the study found that Surrealist fashion, which originated in the 1930s, continues to the present day, confirming the lasting influence of Surrealism.Third, the surrealistic expressive features in Rei Kawakubo's collections were categorized into metaphor and transformation, body and body parts, natural world and unnatural world, movement and optical illusion, and trompe l'oeil based on Richard Martin's classification. Additionally, the study found that transformation appeared the most. Fourth, Rei Kawakubo's collections became more surrealistic from 2014 onwards, with shapes becoming huge, colors becoming bold and colorful with the use of neon colors, and patterns becoming kawaii or cute. Overall, this gives them a fantasy, fairytale, and surreal aura, confirming the continued influence of surrealism. Fifth, surrealistic expressive features in contemporary garments are present in more than one garment. Rei Kawakubo's secretive and ambiguous works pursue interactive conceptual fashion by inviting multiple interpretations and viewer participation, with no correct answers. They also liberate the body and give it freedom through the sense of space in the garments. This space is defined as a space of surreality, in which the fusion of binomial oppositions occurs to build a unified world. Rei Kawakubo's quest to destroy the illusions of Western aesthetics, challenge stereotypes, break tradition, innovate, and create something new draws from the depths of the unconscious to express universal human emotions. Joy and sadness, hope and fear, anger and fear, and so on are drawn from the depths of the unconscious to create a surreal space where the boundaries between binary opposites are blurred and fused. Furthermore, Rei Kawakubo's irrational imagination is euphemistically, richly, and wittily exaggerated, asymmetrically and avant-garde. This study examines Rei Kawakubo's works that expand the way of thinking and viewing reality by inducing deviations from conventional thinking. It hopes to contribute to the understanding of conceptual fashion works that provoke thoughts and interpretations.
