지역 문화공간이 예술인 지원에 미치는 영향 연구

Abstract

본 연구의 목적은 예술인 지원을 위해 지역 문화공간의 현황 및 중요성을 파악하고, 보다 객관적인 자료와 연구를 통해 예술인 지원 방안을 구체적으로 연구하는 데에 있다. 그 중 지역 문화공간의 하나인 KT&G상상마당부산을 중심으로 지역 문화공간의 필요성과 구체적인 지원 및 개선방안 등을 연구해 보고자 한다. 2020년 1월 시작된 세계적인 전염병인 코로나19(COVID19)로 인한 갑작스러운 팬데믹 상황은 예술인들로 하여금 기존과는 다른 생존의 문제에 직면하도록 만들었다. 이에 따라 예술인을 위한 지원의 근간이 되는 공연장 등 문화공간을 보다 면밀하게 연구하여 양질의 지원을 할 수 있도록 객관적인 연구의 필요성이 대두되었다. 따라서 본 연구는 예술인의 지역 문화공간 지원 사례를 연구하여 지원현황을 살펴보고 아울러 지원방식, 개선방안 등을 도출해 보고자 한다. 본 연구에서는 현재의 예술인 지원 현황을 다각도로 살펴보고, 지역 문화공간의 예술인 지원방안에 대해 구체적인 연구 결과를 통해 그 방향성을 제시하는 것에 목적이 있다. 특히 본 연구에서는 2021년에 개관한 부산지역의 대표적인 예술인 지원 문화공간인 KT&G상상마당부산의 사례를 집중적으로 연구해 보았다. 본 연구에서 도출한 KT&G상상마당부산의 지원 사업이 예술인 지원에 미치는 영향의 연구 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, KT&G상상마당부산은 부산의 중심지인 서면에 위치함으로써 다양한 방문객이 자연스럽게 예술을 접할 수 있도록 한 부분에서 위치적인 장점을 보였다. 문화공간은 지역의 거점으로서 방문객의 접근성이 매우 중요한 부분이기 때문에 이러한 부분은 예술가의 작품 활동에 영향을 미침을 알 수 있었다. 이는 관객개발이라는 측면에서 매우 중요한 요소로 작용함을 알 수 있었다. 둘째, KT&G상상마당부산은 복합 예술 및 편의시설을 지닌 건물로 공연장, 전시관, 식음시설, 영화관, 디자인마켓, 창업공간, 회의실 등 각 층마다 다양한 콘텐츠로 구성된 공간으로 예술인들 간의 시너지와 관람객의 서비스를 만족시킬 수 있도록 했다는 점에서 예술인들에게는 확장성을 지니도록 하는 면이 우수한 부분이라고 할 수 있었다. 셋째, 기본적으로 청년예술인을 위한 다양한 지원프로그램을 통해 폭넓은 지원을 하고 있다는 점에서 지역문화 거점으로서 예술인 지원의 의의를 가지고 있음을 알 수 있었다. 넷째, 부산의 옛 중심지인 서면지역을 다시 활성화하여 도시재생적 측면에서 문화공간이 큰 역할을 했고, 이를 통해 지역 예술인들의 문화예술 거점의 중요한 역할을 수행하고 있음을 인터뷰와 설문을 통해 확인할 수 있었다. 이러한 기본적인 연구결과로 KT&G상상마당부산이 부산지역 예술인에게 미치는 영향은 비교적 상업적인 대중장르가 아닌 인디 장르의 음악 분야 예술을 꾸준히 지원함으로써 예술인에게 무대와 공연의 기회를 지속적으로 제공한 점이 매우 중요함을 알 수 있었다. 또한, 다양한 홍보마케팅 지원을 통해 예술가들의 예술작품이 관람객에게 제공 될 수 있도록 지원한 점이 매우 우수했으며, 이를 통해 관람객에게는 문화예술 향유 기회를 양방향으로 제공함으로써 지속적인 관객개발에 기여한 점이 주목할 만한 결과였다. 다음으로 지원이 절실한 신진예술가를 발굴하고, 단계적으로 육성하는 사업을 통해 체계적인 지원을 한 점이 예술가지원에 있어 매우 중요하다는 점이었다. 마지막으로, 일회성의 지원금 지원이 아닌 공연을 통한 수익창출이 가능하도록 지원하는 점이 예술인의 자립을 돕고, 충성도 높은 예술단체 관람객 개발에 기여하고 있음을 확인할 수 있었다. 본 연구는 KT&G상상마당부산이 예술인 지원에 미치는 영향을 다양한 사례와 설문, 인터뷰 등을 통해 다각도로 연구했다는 점에서 의의가 있다. 특히 예술인 지원의 민간기업 지원사례의 연구논문이 많지 않은 상황에서 향후 유사한 주제의 연구로 확장할 수 있도록 기초자료를 만들었다는 점에서 의의가 있다. 그럼에도 불구하고 KT&G상상마당부산이 본격적으로 운영된 시점이 2021년 이후이기 때문에, 현재를 기준으로 2년 정도의 기간밖에 지나지 않아 보다 장기적인 지원 사례와 연구, 분석결과를 도출해내지 못한 부분에 있어서는 분명한 한계점을 갖는다. KT&G상상마당부산의 지원사례는 아티스타트 등 전시사례도 있었으나, 공연장을 중심으로 한 음악공연에 초점을 맞추다 보니 다양한 예술분야의 연구에도 한계를 가지게 되었다. 향후에는 다양한 예술분야의 지원과 중장기적 예술지원의 방법 등을 연구할 필요가 있다. 본 연구의 사례분석과 인터뷰, 설문 및 제언을 통해 향후 지역 문화공간이 예술인 지원에 있어서 다양성을 가지고, 지속가능한 예술인 지원 방법을 제시하는 데에 조금이나마 도움이 되기를 기대한다. ;The objective of this study is to understand the current status and importance of local cultural spaces in supporting artists, and to conduct research and provide specific recommendations for artist support through objective data and analysis. Among them, we would like to study the necessity of local cultural spaces, specific support and improvement measures, focusing on KT&G SangsangmadangBusan, one of the local cultural spaces. The sudden outbreak of the global pandemic, COVID-19, in January 2020 has presented artists with new challenges and survival issues. Consequently, there is a growing need for objective research to examine cultural spaces, such as performance venues, which form the foundation of artist support, in order to provide high-quality support. Therefore, this study aims to examine cases of artist support in local cultural spaces and derive support status, support methods, and improvement recommendations through research. The objective is to comprehensively examine the current status of artist support from various perspectives and provide direction based on concrete research results regarding artist support in local cultural spaces. Specifically, the study focuses on KT&G SangsangmadangBusan, a representative artist support cultural space in the Busan area established in 2021. The research findings on the impact of KT&G SangsangmadangBusan on local artists can be summarized as follows. Firstly, by being located in Seomyeon, the central area of Busan, KT&G SangsangmadangBusan demonstrated a geographical advantage in allowing diverse visitors to naturally encounter art. As cultural spaces serve as focal points in the community, the accessibility for visitors is crucial and can influence artists creative activities. This aspect was identified as a significant factor in audience development. Secondly, KT&G SangsangmadangBusan is a multi-purpose building with various facilities such as performance halls, exhibition spaces, dining facilities, movie theaters, design markets, startup spaces, and meeting rooms on each floor. It provides a space with diverse contents that foster synergy among artists and satisfy the needs of visitors. This aspect contributes to providing artists with expandable opportunities. Thirdly, KT&G SangsangmadangBusan offers extensive support programs specifically designed for young artists, demonstrating its significance as a local cultural hub for supporting artists. Fourthly, by revitalizing the old central area of Seomyeon in Busan, the cultural space plays a significant role in urban regeneration and serves as an important hub for local artists in the field of cultural arts, as confirmed through interviews and surveys. Based on these fundamental research findings, it is evident that KT&G SangsangmadangBusan has a significant impact on artists in the Busan area. It provides consistent opportunities for artists in the indie music genre, rather than focusing solely on commercial mainstream genres, by supporting them with continuous stage and performance opportunities. Additionally, it demonstrates excellence in supporting artists by facilitating the presentation of their artworks to audiences through various promotional and marketing support, thereby contributing to the continuous development of audiences. Furthermore, it recognizes the importance of identifying and nurturing emerging artists in a systematic manner through support programs. Lastly, KT&G SangsangmadangBusan supports artists by enabling revenue generation through performances, thereby assisting their self-sufficiency and contributing to the development of loyal audience communities. This study holds significance in its multidimensional research approach, examining the impact of KT&G SangsangmadangBusan on artist support through various case studies, surveys, interviews, and more. Particularly in the context of limited research papers on private sector support cases for artists, it provides foundational material for future studies on similar topics. However, it is important to note that the study has clear limitations as it is based on a relatively short period of approximately two years since the full operation of KT&G SangsangmadangBusan in 2021. While there were cases of art exhibitions, the study primarily focuses on music performances centered around the venue, which may impose limitations on research in various art fields. Therefore, future research should explore support in diverse art disciplines and investigate long-term methods of artist support. Through the case analysis, interviews, surveys, and recommendations of this study, it is hoped that it will contribute at least in part to providing diverse and sustainable methods of artist support in local cultural spaces in the future.
