영화 <트론:새로운 시작>의 음악 분석을 통한 다프트 펑크(Daft Punk)의 음악적 특징 연구

Abstract

본 논문은 영화 <트론:새로운 시작, 2010>의 음악 분석에 관한 연구이다. 즉, 이 영화에서 음악을 담당한 다프트 펑크(Daft Punk, 1993~2021)의 음악적 특징을 분석하였다. 다프트 펑크는 프랑스 출신의 일렉트로닉 뮤직 듀오로, 90년대 전자 댄스 음악인 하우스 음악과 팝 음악의 결합으로 성공을 얻었다. 특히 신시사이저와 드럼 머신의 실험적인 활용 등 다양한 작곡기법과 폭넓은 음악적 스펙트럼으로 현재 전자음악을 대중음악의 주 장르로 변화시키며 전 세계에 전자음악 열풍을 불러일으킨 가장 영향력이 큰 아티스트로 평가받는 뮤지션이다. 영화 <트론:새로운 시작>은 이러한 다프트 펑크가 영화음악 작곡으로는 처음 맡은 작품으로, 조셉 코신스키(Joseph Kosinski, 1974~)감독의 화려한 영상미가 돋보이는 가상세계와 현실세계를 넘나드는 영화적 요소를 음악적으로 형상화하고 있다. 이에 연구자는 영화 <트론:새로운 시작>를 분석하여 다프트 펑트가 감독의 연출 의도와 주제를 어떻게 음악적으로 구현했는지 분석하고자 한다. 본 연구의 목적을 달성하기 위해 먼저 영화사에 따른 전자음악의 변천을 살펴보았고, 다프트 펑크의 생애와 작품세계를 조사하여 그들의 음악적 배경과 스타일을 분석하였다. 연구 방법으로는 영화의 내용을 발단, 전개, 위기, 절정, 결말로 나누어 줄거리를 정리하고, 음악의 인 앤 아웃에 따른 음악적 기능과 그에 적용된 음악 기법들을 분석하였다. 연구 결과 <트론:새로운 시작>의 음악에는 영화 전체의 배경이 되는 현실세계와 가상세계를 표현하기 위해 어쿠스틱과 전자악기를 사용하여 대조적으로 표현하였고, 영화의 핵심요소인 ‘트론’을 중심으로 인물의 심리와 주인공의 캐릭터를 나타내는 테마와 모티브가 반복되면서 영화의 서사를 뒷받침하고 있었다. 또한 작곡된 음악의 일부는 소스음악으로 활용하여 다프트 펑크의 음악스타일을 두드러지게 하였으며, 사용된 모티브들은 악기의 구성과 상관없이 사건과 장면에 의해 서로 융합될 수 있도록 제작하였다. 그리고 영화에 나타나는 다양한 공간의 표현을 위해 일렉트로닉 소스를 음향적으로 활용한 음악적 요소들이 나타난 것으로 해석되었다. 이렇듯 다프트 펑크는 자신만의 음악 어법을 활용하여 현실세계와 가상세계라는 주제와 더불어 SF라는 장르를 효과적으로 전달하고 있다. 본 논문의 연구를 통해 앞으로도 영화에서의 음악적인 요소에 대한 분석들이 보다 활발하게 진행되기를 바란다. 나아가 다프트 펑크의 음악적인 세계에 대한 체계적인 연구가 지속되어 그들의 음악에 대한 분석이 체계화 되는 기초가 되기를 바란다.;This paper is a study on the music analysis of the movie <Tron: A New Beginning, 2010>. In other words, the musical characteristics of Daft Punk (1991-2021), who was in charge of music in this film, were analyzed. Daft Punk is a French electronic music duo who achieved success in the 90s with a combination of house music and pop music. In particular, they are considered the most influential artist who has created an electronic music craze around the world by transforming electronic music into the main genre of popular music with various composition techniques and experimental use of synthesizers and drum machines. The movie <Tron: A New Beginning> is Daft Punk's first film music composition, and musically embodies the cinematic elements that cross the virtual and real world, featuring Joseph Kosinski's colorful visual beauty. Accordingly, the researcher intends to analyze how Daft Punk musically embodied the director's directing intentions and themes by analyzing the movie <Tron: A New Beginning>. To achieve the purpose of this study, we first looked at the changes in electronic music according to film history, and analyzed Daft Punk's life and the world of work to analyze their musical background and style. As a research method, the plot was organized by dividing the contents of the film into initiation, development, crisis, climax, and ending, and the musical functions according to the in-and-out of music and the music techniques applied thereto were analyzed. As a result of the study, <Tron: A New Beginning>'s music was expressed in contrast using acoustic and electronic instruments to express the real and virtual worlds that are the background of the entire film, and the theme and motifs representing the character's psychology and character were repeated around <Tron.> In addition, some of the music composed was used as source music to highlight Daft Punk's musical style, and the motifs used were designed to be fused with each other by events and scenes regardless of the composition of the instrument. In addition, it was interpreted that musical elements using electronic sources acoustically appeared to express various spaces in the movie. As such, Daft Punk uses his own musical grammar to effectively convey the genre of SF along with the theme of the real world and the virtual world. Through the research of this paper, I hope that the analysis of musical elements in movies will continue to be more active in the future. Furthermore, it is hoped that systematic research on Daft Punk's musical world will continue to serve as the basis for systematic analysis of their music.
