민화(民畵)의 이미지를 응용한 접시디자인 연구

Abstract

This is a research about design of plates using images of flowers in folk paintings. By applying the characteristics of flowers in folk paintings to porcelain plates, the author tried to add aesthetic and playful elements, beyond stereotypes of everday dishes. The images of flowers continue to appear various forms In folk paintings. The images of flowers spark various emotions including stability, ecstacy, happiness, joy and piety. In this regard, the author attempted to re-interpret the characteristics and materials of flowers in folk paintings, using modernized images. Folk paintings are the artworks loved by laypeople during the Chosun dynasty. In particular, flowers in folk paintings mean good luck and they show most vivid and varied images containing the prayers for riches and happiness of life. In this regard, the author attempts to use positive images of flowers on plates, thereby providing vividness to life and fresh new meanings on culinary culture. Throughout the history, dishes have diversified into many kinds to reflect the change of culinary culture. Among them, plates are the vessels used to put food as well as support other objects. Considering that the aesthetic aspects becomes as important as tastes, the author considered saucer designs to respond to consumer tastes and fulfill the aesthetic senses. In particular, the author used design motives from flowers that appear most often in folk paintings, including peony, plum, Chrysanthemum, lilies and bamboos. The author intended to produce various images based on the arrangement of the patterns, and to complete the image of a large flower when combined. The author found that the research works using the characteristics of flowers in folk paintings could perform not only decorative effects but also appropriate functions for each purpose. In addition, the author found that plates emphasizing formativeness were worth further research. Based on the study, the author would like to conduct further research on plate designs, combining practicality and decorativeness.;본 연구는 민화에 나온 꽃의 이미지를 이용한 접시 디자인에 관한 연구이다. 민화의 꽃의 특징들을 도자 접시 식기 디자인에 응용함으로써 실용적 그릇의 고정적 관념을 넘어 심미적, 유희적 요소 등을 더하여 표현하고자 하였다. 민화에서 꽃은 여러 분야에서 끊임없이 새로운 모습으로 나타난다. 이러한 꽃의 이미지들은 안정감, 황홀감, 행복감, 기쁨 그리고 경건함 등 다양한 감정을 유발한다. 이에 본 연구자는 민화의 꽃의 특징과 소재에 초점을 맞춰서 이미지를 활용하여 현대적 감성에 맞게 재해석 하여 도자 제품에 표현하고자 하였다. 민화는 조선시대에 대중에게 사랑 받은 그림이다. 특히 꽃그림은 삶의 부귀와 행복에 대한 염원 및 축원을 가장 활발하고 다양하게 담아낸 예술적 가치를 지닌 그림으로서, 그 꽃들은 그마다 좋은 일이 일어날 징조의 의미를 지닌다. 이에 연구자는 식기에 꽃의 긍정적 이미지를 반영하여 삶에 활력을 주고 식문화의 새롭고 신선한 의미를 부여한다. 식기는 식문화의 변화와 함께 그 용도도 제각각 다양해져 끊임없이 변화와 발전을 하고 있다. 그 가운데서도 접시는 음식을 담고, 얹고, 덜어 먹을 때 뿐만 아니라 다른 기물을 올려 놓기 위한 받침의 용도로도 우리의 생활 속에서 다양하게 쓰이고 있는 용기이다. 음식 문화에서 미적 요소가 맛 못지 않게 중요해지는 흐름을 감안해서 본 연구자는 소비자의 개성 있는 기호에 대응하고, 미적 감각을 충족 시킬 수 있는 접시 디자인을 검토했다. 본 연구에서는 특히‘모란’,‘매화’, 국화’,‘연꽃’,‘백합’,‘대나무’등 민화에서 나오는 사용도가 높은 꽃들을 모티브로 작품을 디자인하였다. 연구자는 무늬의 배열에 따라 다양한 이미지가 연출될 수 있도록 하고, 합체했을 때 하나의 커다란 꽃의 이미지로 완성될 수 있도록 의도하였다. 민화의 꽃의 특성을 이용한 본 연구 작품들은 장식적인 효과뿐만 아니라 각각의 용도에 맞는 적절한 기능을 할 수 있음을 확인했고 조형성이 강조된 접시가 지속적 연구 가치가 있음을 알게 되었다. 본 연구자는 이와 같은 연구를 바탕으로 앞으로 접시 디자인에 있어서 실용성과 장식성을 잘 조화시킨 디자인의 연구를 지속적으로 연구하고자 한다.
