하트 기호로 사랑을 표현한 한지 조형 연구

Abstract

본 논문은 보편적이지만 심오한 감정인 사랑을 하트 기호로 표현한 조형 작품 연구이다. 사랑은 인간이 느끼는 수 많은 감정 중 가장 다차원적이고 복합적인 정서로 다른 감정들을 조화롭게 해주는 본질적이고 중요한 역할을 수행한다. 철학에서는 ‘누구를 사랑한다 함은 그 사람 속에 있는 미(美)와 선(善)의 진수를 알아보는 것이라’ 하였고, 과학에서는 사랑을 두뇌의 화학적 작용이라 하였다. 실증적인 존재가 아니기에 사랑을 명확하게 정의 내릴 수는 없지만 오랜 역사 동안 다양하게 정의되고 예술, 철학, 과학 등 여러 분야의 주제로 끊임 없이 등장한 것을 보면 사랑이 인류사에서 중추적인 존재로 위치한 것은 분명하다. 그러나 사랑은 현대에 이르러 사회 전반적으로 고갈되었으며, 사랑이 가진 관대한 범위에도 불구하고 대부분 사랑이라 하면 흔히 에로스적인 사랑으로 축소되어 인식된다. 하지만 사랑은 부모, 형제, 친구, 자신, 이웃, 종교, 자연과 같이 다양한 대상으로부터 경험되는 인간의 근본적 경험이며, 감정적 차원을 넘어 개인과 사회가 건강한 삶을 영위하기 위한 불가결한 조건이다. 사회 심리학자 에리히 프롬(Erich Fromm)은 이와 같은 현상을 해결하기 위해서는 첫째, 사랑의 이론적 습득, 둘째, 사랑의 실천적 습득이 필요하다고 하였다. 따라서 본 연구는 현대 사회에서 결여된 사랑을 이론적으로 분석하고, 이것이 개인과 사회에서 갖는 가치와 의미에 대해 재조명하여 사랑을 실천하는데 의의가 있다. 본 논문은 크게 이론적 배경 연구와 작품 제작으로 나누어지는데, 우선 이론적 배경에서는 사랑의 정의와 특성에 대해 알아보고 사랑의 원천을 심리학적 관점에서 네 가지 원인으로 나누어 분석하였다. 또한 사랑의 요소와 유형을 다룬 로버트 스턴버그의 사랑의 삼각형 이론을 살펴봄으로써 사랑에 대한 이해를 심화시키고자 하였다. 사랑이 사회적 소통 체계인 기호에서는 어떠한 역할과 의미를 갖는지 알아보고자 하트 기호(♥)의 기원과 유래를 고찰하였고, 기호의 개념과 이의 특성인 표상성을 짚어봄으로써 하트 기호(♥)가 내포할 수 있는 다양한 해석의 가능성을 확인하였다. 이어서 예술에서는 사랑을 어떻게 다루는지 분석하고자 하트 기호(♥)가 등장하는 다양한 작품 사례를 살펴보았다. 이를 토대로 총 13점의 연구 작품을 제작하였는데, 모두 공통적으로 한지와 먹을 소재로 사용하였다. 연구 작품에서 보여지는 한지는 구겨지고 울퉁불퉁한 표면적 특징을 가지고 있다. 이는 사랑의 감내와 변화의 과정을 시각화한 것으로 곧 성장으로 직결된다. 먹은 식물을 태워 생성되는 그을음으로 만들어져 연소의 과정을 거치는데 이러한 부분이 한지와 마찬가지로 감내에 의한 내공이라 해석하였다. 본 논문의 작업을 통해 연구자는 그간 망각하고 간과해온 사랑의 존재와 의미에 대해 되새겨볼 수 있었으며, 작업의 과정에서 사랑의 기호인 하트를 빈번하게 마주함으로써 이러한 시각적인 입력이 유도하는 정서적 변화와 행동적 변화를 경험할 수 있었다. 따라서 본 논문의 주제인 사랑이 누군가에게도 전해져 긍정적인 정서와 사고 그리고 행동의 변화가 일어나 보다 건강한 삶을 영위하게 되기를 소망해본다. ;The purpose of the study is to explore the formative expression of love which is a universal but profound emotion, based on the heart symbol (♥). Love is the most multidimensional and complex emotion among the countless emotions felt by humans, and plays an essential and important role in harmonizing other emotions. In philosophy, "To love someone is to recognize the essence of beauty and goodness in that person," and in science, love is called the chemical action of the brain. Love cannot be clearly defined because it is not an empirical existence, but it is defined in various ways over a long history. Given the constant emergence of themes in various fields such as art, philosophy, and science, it is clear that love is located as a pivotal presence in human history. Nevertheless, love is generally exhausted and despite the generous range, it is often perceived narrowly as erotic love. However, love is a fundamental human experience triggered by various objects such as parents, brothers, sisters, friends, self, neighbors, religion, and nature, and is an indispensable condition for individuals and society to lead healthy lives beyond the emotional level. Social psychologist Erich Fromm said that in order to solve this phenomenon, first, it is necessary to acquire the theory of love and second, to acquire the practical knowledge of love. Therefore, this study is meaningful in practicing love by theoretically analyzing the shortage of love in modern society and re-examining the value and meaning of the individual and society. This study is largely divided into theoretical background research and the production of artwork. First, in the theoretical background, the definition and characteristics of love were investigated, and the source of love was analyzed by dividing it into four causes from a psychological perspective. Continually, looking at Robert Sternberg's love triangle theory which deals with elements and types of love will deepen understanding of love. To find out what role and meaning love has in symbols, the researcher examined the origin of heart symbols (♥) and confirmed the possibility of various interpretations it has. And, by pointing to the concept of the symbol and its characteristic ‘representativeness’ the possibility of various interpretations that the heart symbol (♥) can imply was confirmed. Subsequently, in order to analyze how love is handled in art, various examples of works featuring heart symbols (♥) were examined. Based on this, 13 research works were produced, all created with Korean paper and ink. The Hanji shown in the research work has a crumpled and uneven surface characteristic. This visualizes the endurance and the process of love which is directly linked to growth. Ink is made of soot produced by burning plants and goes through the process of combustion, and this part was interpreted as duration, just like Korean paper. Through the work of this study, the researcher was able to reflect on the existence and meaning of love that has been forgotten and overlooked. In the process of work, the researcher was able to experience emotional and behavioral changes induced by visual input by frequently facing the heart, a symbol of love. Therefore, the researcher wishes that the love, the subject of this study was passed on to someone causing positive emotions, thoughts, and changes in behavior to lead a healthier life.
