Study of the Relationship between Family Involvement and Corporate Performance

Abstract

As one of the earliest commercial forms in the history of mankind, the family enterprise played a vital role in the feudalistic political system and economy of China.Family enterprises have a key role to play in supporting the economy, creating jobs and having a social impact.The fast development of Chinese socialist market economy can be attributed to the fast growth of civilian-run economy, in which the family business plays a very important role. However, there are still some issues like "one-family-stock", agent conflict, whether to run the business by the family or employ a specialized management group, and how to implement a family enterprise transfer. By using the theory of agency, management and resources-based, this paper explores the influence of household participation on corporate performance. In this study, the relation of family participation and enterprise performance is discussed from the perspective of household ownership participation, household management participation, and family heritage intent. This article takes 375 family enterprises listed on A stock from 2015 to 2021 as the object of study. Finally, the paper carries on the verification of the hypothesis by the demonstration, and draws the following important conclusions. (1) There is a positive effect between family ownership involvement and firm performance. (2) There is a significant inverted U-shaped relationship between family management involvement and corporate performance,meaning that there is a threshold or critical area of family governance commitment below or above which firm performance will be compromised. (3) According to the results of the empirical study, there are both negative and positive effects of family inheritance intentions on corporate performance.;인류 역사상 최초의 기업 형태인 가업은 고대 중국 사회의 봉건 체제와 경제 생활에서 없어서는 안될 부수적 요소였습니다.그것은 경제 발전, 일자리 창출 및 사회적 영향을 주도하는 중추적인 시장 위치를 차지하고 있습니다.가족 기업의 필수 기능인 가족 참여는 사업 성과에 미치는 영향을 무시할 수 없습니다. 그러나 가업이 공개된 후 가업이 '지배적'인 현상, 대리인 갈등, 가업이 경영을 해야 하는지 전문경영인으로 구성된 팀을 고용해야 하는지 등 다양한 문제가 제기되고 있습니다. 대리인 이론, 스튜어드십 이론 및 자원 기반 관점에 기초하여, 이 논문은 가족 기업이 기업 성과에 미치는 영향을 탐색하기 위해 다른 기업과 구별되는 가족 기업의 특성, 즉 가족 참여를 연구합니다. 이 논문은 가족 소유 참여, 가족 관리 참여 및 가족 상속 의지라는 세 가지 차원에서 가족 참여와 기업 성과 간의 관계를 탐구합니다. 기존 연구문헌 검토 및 분석을 바탕으로 2015년부터 2021년까지 중국 A주에 상장된 가족기업 375개사를 대상으로 실증분석을 통해 가설을 검증하고, 최종적으로 다음과 같은 중요한 결론을 얻었습니다. : (1) 가족 소유의 참여와 기업 성과 사이에 긍정적인 영향이 있습니다. (2) 가족관리참여도와 기업성과 사이에는 역U자형의 유의미한 관계가 존재하는데, 이는 가족관리참여에 대해 일정한 임계값이나 임계범위가 존재한다는 것을 의미한다. (3) 실증적 연구결과에 따르면 가족상속의도는 기업성과에 긍정적인 영향과 부정적인 영향을 모두 미치는 것으로 나타났다.
