무용작품 「길 위에 서서」에 관한 연구

Abstract

This study covers the entire creative process of the dance work ⌜Standing on the Way⌟, a work choreographed by the author and performed in Hall I of Ewha Womans University in 9th December 2021. This work describes how one can consider pain as a chance to motivate the life rather than something negative to avoid, face and overcome it, then, having found the will of life and the meaning of life, rediscover their existential meaning. The purpose of this study is to analyze the representation in movement of this intrinsic theme with artistic elements. This work is motivated by an accident of the author and the death of choreographer’s teacher which occurred around the same time. The choreography is also an answer to a question: how would we bear this unavoidable pain in life? The answer is that the attitude toward ordeals and pain leads us the true meaning of life and give us motivation and energy to sustain it. The key concept of this dance work is meaning of life – having a will to find their meaning in the life, one can embrace even fatal pain as a part of their life, face directly it and finally find their own meaning. Therefore, pain is not only a chance to fulfill the meaning, but also a message of liveliness. The work defines this robust will to overcome negative conditions, which eventually become an opportunity to grow up, as the value of pain in life. Also, it consists of three parts that respectively describe inner side with pain, revelation of will of life, rediscovery of meaning of life. The author aims to comprehend the role of pain in life and find the existential meaning in life. We cannot help facing the pain, for it is unavoidable in life. If so, one can have an opportunity to reveal the will of life and from that, one can find their inner vitality, or meaning of life. This conclusion also gave the author a chance to introspection to her inner side and to her capacity as an artist. The writer would not avoid the next pain in life, rather, embrace it, and find another chance not to her driving force. Furthermore, this work would be a foundation for her artistic growth and expansion.;본 논문은 2021년 12월 9일 이화여자대학교 홀Ⅰ에서 발표한 연구자의 무용 작품 「길 위에 서서」를 분석한 연구이다. 본 작품은 고통을 부정적인 회피의 대상이 아닌 삶의 원동력을 충족시키는 기회로 바라보며 고통을 마주하고 이를 극복함으로써 삶의 의지와 의미를 발견하여 존재의 의미를 재발견하는 과정을 표현하고자 했다. 본 논문의 목적은 작품에 내재된 주제가 어떻게 움직임으로 형상화되었는지 작품의 구성요소와 함께 심층적으로 연구하고 분석하는 데 있다. 본 작품의 안무 의도는 다음과 같다. 작품 「길 위에 서서」는 거의 동시적으로 일어난 안무자 본인의 사고와 스승의 죽음이 직접적인 창작의 계기가 되었다. 삶을 살아가면서 불가피하지만 불현듯 찾아오는 고통을 어떻게 견뎌내야 하는가에 대한 질문의 답이 작품의 안무로 이어지게 되었다. 누구에게나 닥치게 되는 시련과 고통을 마주하는 자세를 통해 삶의 진정한 의미를 깨닫고 삶의 원동력과 에너지를 얻을 수 있다는 메시지를 작품의 주제 의식으로 나타내고자 하였다. 작품의 핵심 개념인 ‘삶의 의미론’은 인간이 스스로 자기 삶에서 의미를 찾고자 하는 의지를 갖는다면 죽음과 같은 고통까지도 삶의 일부임을 수용하고 그 안에서 의미를 발견할 수 있다는 것이다. 따라서 고통은 삶의 의미를 충족시켜줄 수 있는 기회이자 살아가고 있음을 느끼게 하는 메시지가 된다. 작품 「길 위에 서서」는 내면의 강한 의지를 통해 자아가 치유되고 성장하며 나아가는 것을 고통의 원대한 가치로 규정하고, 내면의 고통, 삶의 의지의 발현, 삶의 진정한 의미와 존재의 의미를 재발견하는 과정을 총 세 개의 장에 걸쳐 표현하고자 했다. 본 연구자는 작품「길 위에 서서」를 통해 고통의 의미를 이해하고 인정하여 인생이라는 길 속에서 존재의 의미를 발견하고자 한다. 삶에서 고통은 피할 수 없는 것이기에 회피하지 않고 오히려 두려움과 고통을 마주함으로써 삶의 의지를 발현할 계기를 얻게 되고, 거기에서 나오는 내면의 생명력이 바로 삶의 의미라고 할 수 있다. 「길 위에 서서」를 창작하는 과정은 안무자에게 자신의 내면에 귀 기울이며 성찰할 수 있는 계기와 스스로의 역량을 돌아볼 수 있는 기회를 제공해 주었다. 안무자는 앞으로도 또 다시 마주하게 될 고통을 회피하는 것이 아니라 있는 그대로를 받아들임으로써 또 한 번의 자아 확립 기회로 삼을 것이다. 더 나아가, 본 연구에서 고찰한 바는 앞으로 안무자가 예술세계를 확장하는 데에 좋은 토대가 될 것이다.
