로버트 맨골드 작품의 조형적 특징을 응용한 패션디자인 연구

Abstract

In the rapidly changing complex social structure, modern people pursue simplicity and conciseness. This phenomenon has been extended to various art fields such as music, architecture, fashion, and art. Minimal art is an art trend based on geometrical forms with minimal formative elements by pursuing extreme simplicity and excluding the artist's narrative and subjectivity. Therefore, this study analyzed the formative characteristics of the works of the representative minimalist artist Robert Mangold (1937~), used them as a motif for fashion design, and developed the design using the tapping technique. Through this, we intend to present a new possibility of expression in fashion by expressing creative fashion design that combines formative art and taping techniques in fashion. The contents and methods of this study are as follows. First, there are two major research methods: theoretical research through literature and research on work production. First, as a theoretical foundation, we analyze Robert Mangold's background and the world of work through various visual materials such as thesis, academic journals, books, the Internet, and specialized books, and look at contemporary fashion design cases in which formative characteristics are derived and applied. Second, identified the concept and history of the taping technique. Based on this, review the examples of contemporary fashion design applying the tapping technique. Third, the design is developed based on the theoretical background analyzed through this study, and 4 real works of fashion design using the taping technique according to the formative characteristics of Robert Mangold's works are presented. First, the conclusions of this study obtained through theoretical review are as follows. First, it can be seen that the minimal artist Robert Mangold minimized the formative elements and reduced them to a simple and concise geometric form. It can be seen that the experience with the audience was treated as the essence of art, and the direct experience was attempted through communication with the audiences. Second, when dividing Robert Mangold's formative characteristics into lines, faces, shapes, and colors, each characteristic classified by series of works could be derived. In particular, it was seen that the use of lines was important and the individuality was revealed in the work using curves. Third, when looking at the case of modern fashion design applying minimal art images, it was found that most of the applications were focused on simple colors and geometric shapes rather than including all the formative features of minimal art. Fourth, as the material technique of this study, the taping technique can be expressed in various ways depending on the material, and when examining the examples of modern fashion design, it was found that the past technology made a long time ago is still used in the present day. The conclusions obtained through the work production study of this study are as follows. First, the shape was actively transformed by actually wearing the deformed geometrical flat works on the human body, and through the method of making holes and erecting pillars, it was able to maximize the formative characteristics of Robert Mangold to show a three-dimensional effect. Second, by using a thick neoprene material, it was able to emphasize the geometric image of the work and maintain a stable sense of shape in the silhouette. Third, by making a difference between the outer form and the inner perforated form, it blurs the distinction between forms, causing visual confusion, and allowing audiences to feel the expanded space through the perforated part. Fourth, it was able to present a new surface effect by freely expressing the flexible curves, a formative characteristic of Robert Mangold's works, by using the elasticity of rubber bands as a material of the taping technique. Fifth, color contrast was achieved by using high-saturation colors with high brightness and purity, effectively highlighting motifs, and providing visual pleasure. In addition, the color contrast effect, one of the formative features of Robert Mangold's work, could be applied to fashion design.;급속도로 변하는 복잡한 사회구조 속에서 현대인들은 단순함과 간결함을 추구하며 이러한 현상은 음악, 건축, 패션, 미술 등의 다양한 예술 분야로 확대되어 나타나고 있다. 미니멀아트는 극단적 간결성을 추구하고 작가의 서술과 주관을 배제하여 최소한의 조형 요소로 기하학적 형태를 바탕으로 하는 예술 경향이다. 이에 본 연구는 미니멀아트의 대표적 작가 로버트 맨골드(Robert Mangold, 1937~) 작품의 조형적 특징을 분석하여 패션디자인의 모티브로 활용하고, 테이핑 기법을 활용해 디자인을 전개하였다. 이를 통해 패션에 있어서 조형예술과 테이핑 기법을 접목한 창의적인 패션디자인을 나타내어 패션의 새로운 표현 가능성을 제시하고자 한다. 본 연구의 내용 및 방법은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 크게 문헌을 통한 이론적 연구와 작품 제작 연구 두 가지 연구 방법을 취하고 있다. 먼저 이론적 배경으로 학위논문과 학술지, 단행본, 인터넷 및 전문 서적 등 각종 시각 자료를 통해 로버트 맨골드의 형성배경 및 작품세계를 분석하고 이를 토대로 조형적 특징을 도출하여 이를 응용한 현대 패션디자인 사례를 살펴본다. 둘째, 테이핑 기법의 개념 및 역사를 파악하고 이를 토대로 테이핑 기법을 응용한 현대패션디자인 사례를 살펴본다. 셋째, 이를 통해 분석한 이론적 배경을 토대로 디자인을 전개하고, 로버트 맨골드 작품의 조형적 특징에 따라서 테이핑 기법을 응용한 패션디자인 실물 작품 4점을 제시한다. 본 연구의 이론적 고찰을 통해 얻은 결론은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 미니멀아트 작가 로버트 맨골드는 조형적 요소를 최소화하여 단순하고 간결한 기하학적 형태로 환원시켰으며 관객과의 체험을 예술의 본질로 다뤄 관객과의 소통을 통한 직접체험을 시도한 것을 알 수 있었다. 둘째, 로버트 맨골드의 조형적 특징을 선, 면, 형, 색채로 나누어 볼 때 작품의 시리즈별로 구분된 각각의 특징들을 도출 할 수 있었다. 특히 선의 활용을 중요시하였고 곡선을 이용해 작품에 개성을 드러낸 것을 볼 수 있었다. 셋째, 미니멀아트 이미지를 응용한 현대패션디자인 사례를 살펴보았을 때 미니멀아트의 모든 조형적 특징을 포함하기보다는 단순한 색채와 기하학적 형에 집중된 응용이 대부분인 것을 볼 수 있었다. 넷째, 본 연구의 소재 기법으로서, 테이핑 기법은 소재에 따라 다양한 표현이 가능하며 현대패션디자인 사례를 살펴보았을 때 오래전에 만들어진 과거의 기술이 현대에도 계속해서 활용되는 것을 볼 수 있었다. 본 연구의 작품 제작 연구를 통해 얻은 결론은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 변형된 기하학적 형태의 평면 작품들을 실제적으로 인체에 착용함으로써 형태가 적극적으로 변형되었으며 구멍을 뚫고 기둥을 세우는 방식을 통해 로버트 맨골드의 조형적 특징을 극대화하여 입체적 효과를 나타낼 수 있었다. 둘째, 두께감이 있는 네오프렌 소재를 사용함으로써 안정적인 실루엣의 형태 감을 유지할 수 있어서 작품의 견고한 기하학적 이미지를 강조할 수 있었다. 셋째, 외곽 형태와 내부의 뚫린 형태에 차이를 두어 형태의 구분을 흐리게 하고 뚫린 부분을 통해 확장된 공간을 느낄 수 있었다, 넷째, 테이핑 기법의 소재로 고무줄의 탄성을 활용해 로버트 맨골드 작품의 조형적 특징인 유연한 곡선을 자유자재로 표현하여 새로운 표면효과를 제시할 수 있었다. 다섯째, 명도와 채도가 높은 고채도의 색채를 사용해 색채대비가 이루어져 모티브 를 효과적으로 부각할 수 있었으며 시각적인 즐거움을 주었다. 또한, 로버트 맨골드 작품의 조형적 특징 중 하나인 색상대비 효과를 패션디자인에도 접목할 수 있었다.
