장 누벨 건축 외피의 조형적 특성을 응용한 패션디자인 연구

Abstract

Fashion and architecture express personal, social and cultural identity as elements of food, clothing, and shelter, and reflect the paradigm and values ​​of the times, sharing many similarities as a formative art that considers aesthetics and purposiveness. In the 21st century, active exchanges are taking place between these two fields. The envelope of contemporary architecture shows a tendency to pursue novelty based on the development of various materials and construction technologies, breaking away from the existing uniform design. The first visually recognized element in architecture is the architectural envelope, which forms the identity of the building and has complex characteristics that interact with structure and space. As the importance of the envelope in contemporary architecture has risen, this study focused on Jean Nouvel's architectural envelope, which expresses the image of a contemporary envelope. By deriving the formative characteristics that appear in his architectural envelope and applying it as a fashion design using laser cut-out technique, we propose a new design methodology and rethink the connection between architecture and fashion. The contents and methods of this study are largely composed of theoretical considerations and production of works. First, the world of Jean Nouvel's work, and the formative characteristics of his architectural envelop are analyzed, referencing professional books, thesis and academic journals, and Jean Nouvel's official website as a theoretical background. Based on this, it is aimed to analyze fashion design cases applying the image of architectural envelope through contemporary fashion collection data and prior research. In addition, the concept, principle, type and characteristics of laser cut-out techniques are identified, based on which the case of contemporary fashion design using the technique is analyzed. Based on the theoretical background analyzed above, the design is developed with selection of a motif, and four fashion design works are produced by applying the formative characteristics of the Jean Nouvel architectural envelope. The conclusions obtained through the theoretical study of this study are as follows. First, Jean Nouvel, as an architect who expresses the mechanical aesthetics and contemporary envelop image that combines cutting-edge technology and artistry, pursues its own uniqueness in consideration of the context appropriate for each different external environment, and expresses it in the form of an envelop. Second, through the representative architectural works of Jean Nouvel, the formative characteristics manifested in his architectural envelope were analyzed, and as a result, four types of formative characteristics could be derived. Jean Nouvel's architectural envelope presents the continuity of geometrical forms and has expressiveness by light including reflection, transmission, and luminescence. A number of porous properties were found in his envelope plane and the envelope unit has the property of being superimposed around an axis or a plane. Third, through the concept and principle of laser cutting technique, which was used in this study, it was found that the CO2 laser is most suitable for fabrics and fibers. In addition, the laser cut-out technique has the characteristic that it is possible to see through the cut inside, thereby forming a sense of space and enabling precise and clear expression. Fourth, in the contemporary fashion field, the cases where many designers continuously use the laser cutting technique are found, and the cut-out technique was found to have the highest frequency of use among the types of techniques. The conclusions obtained through the work production study of this study are as follows. First, the laser cut-out technique was utilized to express the formative characteristics appearing in the Jean Nouvel architectural envelope. It was shown that the precise and clear expression of the cut surface is suitable for expressing the geometric pattern of Jean Nouvel's envelope or the porous surface. Second, since the artificial leather used as the main material has a sense of thickness and weight, it was found to be suitable to express the structural and solid feeling of modern architecture. Even when several areas were cut out by the laser cutting processing technique, the overall sense of shape was maintained. Third, in the laser cut-out technique, it was found that the process of analyzing the characteristics of the material through experiments was essential because the intensity or speed of the laser had to be adjusted depending on the material. Fourth, among the formative characteristics of the envelope of Jean Nouvel's architecture, the reflective fabric used to apply the expressiveness of light is a smooth and cool surface that goes well with the image of contemporary architecture. Also, it is possible to obtain the effect that geometric shapes are emphasized due to the contrast. Fifth, the overlapping of envelope units could be expressed through the layering of laser cut-out fabrics, and the sense of space created between the overlapping fabrics could express the structural three-dimensional effect of the architecture. A new form of formativeness created by overlapping geometric patterns at various angles was also felt. This study aimed to reconsider the connection between fashion and architecture by understanding the relationship between the architectural envelope and contemporary fashion, and applying the formative characteristics of the architectural envelope to the field of fashion design. Since the envelope of contemporary architecture can be applied to various designs in the fashion field, it is thought that a lot of research on materials, colors, and methods of expression will be needed. Based on this study, it is expected that methodological studies of new designs incorporating the contemporary architectural envelope will be continued.;패션과 건축은 의식주의 요소로서 개인적, 사회적, 문화적 정체성을 표명하고, 시대의 패러다임과 가치관을 반영한다. 이 두 분야는 심미성과 합목적성을 고려하는 조형예술로서 많은 유사성을 가지고 있으며, 21세기에 들어서면서 활발한 상호 교류가 이루어지고 있다. 현대 건축 외피는 기존의 획일화된 디자인에서 벗어나 다양한 재료와 구축 기술의 발전을 기반으로 새로움을 추구하는 경향을 보인다. 건축에 있어서 가장 먼저 시각적으로 인식되는 요소는 건축 외피이며, 건축물의 정체성을 형성하고 구조, 공간과 함께 상호작용하는 복합적 특성을 띠고 있다. 현대 건축에서의 외피의 중요성이 대두됨에 따라 본 연구는 현대적 외피 이미지를 표현하는 장 누벨의 건축 외피를 주목하였다. 그의 건축 외피에 나타나는 조형적 특성을 도출하고 이를 레이저 컷 아웃 기법을 활용한 패션디자인으로 응용함으로써 새로운 디자인적 방법론을 제시하고 건축과 패션 두 분야의 연계를 재고하고자 한다. 본 연구의 내용과 방법은 크게 이론적 고찰과 작품 제작으로 구성된다. 먼저 이론적 배경으로 전문서적, 학위 논문과 학술지, 장 누벨의 오피셜 웹사이트 등을 통해 장 누벨의 작품세계와 그의 건축 외피의 조형적 특성을 분석한다. 이를 토대로 패션 컬렉션 자료와 선행 연구를 통해 건축 외피 이미지를 응용한 현대 패션디자인 사례를 분석한다. 또한, 레이저 커팅의 개념과 원리, 레이저 컷 아웃 기법의 특징을 파악하고 이를 토대로 레이저 컷 아웃 기법을 응용한 현대 패션디자인 사례를 분석한다. 앞서 분석한 이론적 배경을 바탕으로 하여 모티브를 선정해 디자인을 전개하고, 장 누벨 건축 외피의 조형적 특성을 응용한 패션디자인 작품 4벌을 제작하고자 한다. 본 연구의 이론적 연구를 통해서 얻은 결론은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 장 누벨은 첨단 기술과 예술성을 결합한 기계 미학과 현대적 외피 이미지를 표현하는 건축가로서 각기 다른 외부 환경에 맞는 맥락을 고려하여 독자적인 특이성을 추구하며, 그것을 외피의 형태로 표현하는 것을 알 수 있었다. 둘째, 장 누벨의 대표 건축 작품들을 통해 그의 건축 외피에서 나타나는 조형적 특성을 분석하였고, 그 결과 4가지의 조형적 특성을 도출해 낼 수 있었다. 장 누벨의 건축 외피는 기하학 형태의 연속성을 보이며 반사, 투과, 발광 등의 빛에 의한 표현성을 가지고 있다. 또한, 그의 외피 평면에서 다공적인 특성을 다수 찾아볼 수 있었으며 외피 단위가 축이나 면을 중심으로 중첩되는 특성이 있다. 셋째, 본 연구의 기법인 레이저 커팅의 개념과 원리를 통해 원단이나 섬유는 CO₂레이저가 가장 적합하다는 것을 알 수 있었다. 또한, 레이저 컷 아웃 기법은 커팅된 내부를 통한 투시가 가능하여 공간감을 형성하며 정교하고 명료한 표현이 가능하다는 특징을 가지고 있다. 넷째, 현대 패션 분야에서는 레이저 커팅 기법을 꾸준히 지속적으로 많은 디자이너들이 활용하는 것을 찾아볼 수 있었으며 레이저 커팅의 종류 중 컷 아웃 기법의 사용 빈도가 가장 높은 것을 알 수 있었다. 본 연구의 작품 제작 연구를 통해 얻은 결론을 다음과 같다. 첫째, 장 누벨 건축 외피에 나타나는 조형적 특성을 표현하기 위해서 레이저 컷 아웃 기법을 활용하였고, 레이저 컷 아웃의 특징인 정교하고 명료한 절단면의 표현은 장 누벨 건축 외피의 기하학적인 패턴이나 다공적인 표면을 표현하기에 적합하다는 것을 알 수 있었다. 둘째, 주요 소재로 사용한 인조가죽은 두께감과 무게감이 있어 현대 건축의 구조적이고 단단한 느낌을 표현하기에 적합하였고 레이저 커팅 가공 기법에 의해 여러 면적이 컷 아웃 되었을 때도 전체적인 형태감을 유지 할 수 있었다. 셋째, 레이저 컷 아웃 기법은 소재에 따라 레이저의 세기나 속도를 조절해야 하기에 실험을 통해 소재의 특징을 분석하는 과정이 필수적임을 알 수 있었다. 넷째, 장 누벨 건축 외피의 조형적 특성 중 빛에 의한 표현성을 적용하기 위해 사용한 재귀 반사 원단은 매끄럽고 차가운 느낌의 표면으로 현대 건축의 이미지와 어울리며, 명암으로 인해 기하학적인 형태들이 부각 되어 보이는 효과도 얻을 수 있었다. 다섯째, 레이저 컷 아웃된 원단의 레이어링 통해 외피 단위의 중첩성을 표현 할 수 있었으며, 중첩된 원단들 사이에 생기는 공간감은 건축의 구조적인 입체감을 표현할 수 있었다. 기하학적 패턴들이 다양한 각도로 중첩되면서 생성되는 새로운 형태의 조형성도 느낄 수 있었다. 본 연구는 건축 외피와 현대 패션의 관계성에 대해 이해하며, 건축 외피에서 나타나는 조형적 특성을 패션디자인 영역으로 응용함에 따라 패션과 건축 두 분야의 연계를 재고하고자 하였다. 현대 건축의 외피는 패션 분야에서의 다양한 디자인으로의 접목이 가능하므로 소재, 색채, 표현 방법 등에 대한 많은 연구가 필요하리라 사료된다. 본 연구를 토대로 현대 건축 외피를 접목한 새로운 디자인의 방법론적 연구가 지속되기를 기대해본다.
