핸드 니팅을 이용한 SNS 참여 공예 프로젝트 연구

Abstract

현대 공예는 아름다운 실용품을 제작하는 숙련된 기술을 넘어 사회 문화적 변화에 발맞춰 다양하게 그 영역을 확장하고 있다. 특히 표현 영역의 확장으로 사회문제와 결합된 공예는 참여적 역할을 수행하며 대중들과 소통하고 있다. 연구자는 이러한 참여 공예에 대한 연구를 진행하고자 한다. 먼저 이론적 배경으로 공예의 일반적 특성을 손, 재료, 기술, 기능 네 가지로 정리하였다. 공예는 직접적인 신체(손)의 참여로 이루어지며 재료에 의해 그것의 정체성이 확고해진다. 또한 단순 지식적인 기술이 아닌 실행으로 체득하는 노하우의 기술을 가지며 일상의 삶에서 기능을 가짐으로서 그 역할을 실천한다. 다음으로 1960년대 이후 정치적, 사회적 변화와 함께 등장한 참여 공예의 특징에 대해 고찰한다. 이것은 공예가 단순히 습득된 기술의 실현이 아니라 인간 삶의 태도를 반영하고 소통하는 사회 참여적 방식이라는 것이다. 이를 확인하기 위해 프레디 로빈슨(Freddie Robins), 리사 앤 아우어바흐(Lisa Anne Auerbach), 발브 헌트(Barb Hunt)의 작품을 분석하고 니팅을 이용한 조형 작업, 사회적 메시지를 전달하기 위한 작업, 과정을 보여주는 작업에 대한 연구를 진행하였다. 다음은 공예 기술인 니팅에 대해 고찰한다. 그것의 특징을 핸드 니팅(hand knitting), 크로쉐(crochet), 아프간 크로쉐(afghan crochet)로 분류해 정리하였다. 그리고 프로젝트에서 필요한 핸드 니팅 도안에 대해 연구한다. 도안은 공예 기술을 정확히 보전하고 전달하기 위해 중요한 작업으로 작업 과정을 풀어 글로 작성하는 서술 도안과 약속한 기호로 작성하는 차트 도안으로 나누어 분석하였다. 다음으로 프로젝트의 핸드 니팅 모티브 제작에 도움이 되도록 연구자의 선행 작업들을 살펴보며 인형의 의미를 재고하고 공예 기술과 디자인 위주로 분석을 진행하였다. 마지막으로 연구자의 핸드 니팅을 이용한 SNS 참여 공예 프로젝트 ‘공예가 세상을 바꿀 수 있을까요?’를 진행하고 그것의 결과를 분석하였다. 연구자는 작은 관심과 행동이 세상을 바꿀 수 있다고 믿고 있는데 핸드 니팅을 그 힘의 구심점으로 이용하고자 한 프로젝트이다. 본 프로젝트에서는 사라져 가는 멸종 위기 동물 종과 관련한 환경 이슈에 대해 참여자들과 핸드 니팅을 통해 소통하고 멸종 생물 종에 대한 위기의식을 가져 보자는 의도에서 기획되었다. 그러기 위해 프로젝트는 다음과 같이 진행되었다. 공예를 통한 소통과 참여가 핵심인 작업이기 때문에 많은 사람들이 동참할 수 있도록 핸드 니팅 디자인과 공예 기술의 난이도를 고려하여 프로젝트 모티브를 제작한다. 그리고 일차적으로 소통의 매개가 될 핸드 니팅 도안을 정확히 작업하고 누구나 자유롭게 참여할 수 있도록 온라인에 업로드 한 후 SNS(social network service)를 이용해 자발적인 참여와 소통을 독려한다. 그 후 참여자들의 작업과 SNS 활동 그리고 설문을 통해 프로젝트의 결과를 알아본다. 본 연구를 통해서 다음과 같은 결론을 얻을 수 있었다. 참여자들은 프로젝트를 통해 사회참여에 대한 보람을 느끼고 연대감을 가졌으며 공예 활동의 즐거움을 경험했다고 설문에 응답했다. 이를 통해 참여 공예의 모습을 확인 할 수 있었으며 참여자들의 공예를 통한 다양한 소통과 사회 참여적 모습은 연구자의 의도를 넘어선 훨씬 더 유기적이고 확장 가능한 공예의 역할을 확인할 수 있었다. 이러한 공예의 확장은 앞으로 개인의 삶과 사회에 소통의 장을 제공하는 긍정적인 역할이 될 수 있음을 전망하였다. ;The sphere of contemporary craftwork has expanded in various ways to keep pace with sociocultural changes; craftwork has been growing beyond activities involving proficient skills in creating esthetic necessaries. Specifically, through the expansion of the expressional domain, crafts intertwined with social issues play a participatory role and communicate with the public. This research seeks to study such participatory craftwork. First, as theoretical background, the general characteristics of craftwork were classified into hand, material, skill, and function. Craftwork is achieved by the direct involvement of the craftsperson's body (hand), and its identity is solidified by the material used. Further, rather than simple knowledge-based techniques, craftwork represents the know-how skills acquired through practice, and it performs its role by having functions in everyday life. Next, the study analyzes the characteristics of participatory craftwork, which emerged with the political and social shifts after the 1960s. This indicates that craftwork is not merely a realization of acquired skills but a social participatory manner of reflecting and communicating one's attitude toward life. To confirm this claim, this study analyzed the works of Freddie Robins, Lisa Anne Auerbach, and Barb Hunt and conducted research on formative work using knitting-work to convey social messages-and craftwork demonstrating the process. Next, the craft skill of knitting was examined. Its characteristics were classified and organized as hand knitting, crochet, and afghan crochet. Additionally, the hand-knitting designs necessary for the project were studied. Designing is an important process for accurately preserving and conveying craftwork skills. The design process was classified into two parts: the descriptive aspect of explaining the work process in words and the chart design, which is drawn up using agreed-upon symbols; next, the process was analyzed. Following that, the researcher's prior works were examined to aid in the creation of the project's hand-knitting motifs, which were used to reconsider the meaning of dolls, and an analysis was conducted focusing on craft skills. Finally, the researcher's social networking services (SNS) participatory craftwork project using hand knitting that was entitled "Can Craftwork Change the World?" was conducted, and its results were analyzed. The researcher believes that a little attention and action can change the world, and this project aimed to use hand knitting as the pivot for such force. This project was planned with the intention of discussing environmental issues related to extinct and endangered animal species with participants using hand knitting and raising awareness about endangered species. To this end, the project was conducted as follows. Because communication and participation through craftwork are crucial to the project's operation, the project motifs were established after considering the design's difficulty and hand-knitting skills required to inspire great participation. Following this, the hand-knitting design, which is the method of delivery, was accurately created and was uploaded online to encourage voluntary participation and communication through SNS. The study findings were identified by examining the participants' works and SNS activities and obtaining their responses to a questionnaire. The conclusions of the study are as follows: The participatory aspect of craftwork was confirmed by the participants' survey responses, which indicated that they felt rewarded and felt a sense of solidarity through social participation. Further, the participants experienced the joy of craftwork activity through the project. Various acts of communication and social participatory aspects resulting from participants' craftwork affirmed a far greater organic, extensible role of craftwork, significantly more than posited by the researcher. Thus, an expanded concept of craftwork can assume the positive role of providing an arena for communication in an individual's life and society in the near future.
