한국어 보절화 책략으로서의 부사절 연구

Abstract

The purpose of this thesis is to suggest that certain type of adverbial clause constructions are employed as a complementation strategy in Korean lauguage and to illustrate the syntactic and semantic properties of the constructions. The converb markers that form adverbial clauses functioning as complements are -key, -tolok, -lyeko, which are considered as a purposive linking marker. This type of constructions refer a propositional content separated the meaning of the matrix clause and are syntactically biclausal construction, which is conformable to the cross-linguistic concept of “complementation strategies(Dixon 2006)” or “complementation patterns(Schmidtke-Bode 2015)”. Most of the previous study about verbal complements in Korean language did not consider the clauses marked by –key, -tolok, -lyeko as verbal complements of the predicates, so that they haven’t been characterized as a complementation construction while marked by quotive constructions and nominalized forms have been inverstigated their semantic properties and syntactic behaviours in the term of the complementation. This thesis intend to fill in this gap of the explanation of the complementation system in Korean language. Chapter 2 suggests that obligatory -key, -tolok, -lyeko adverbial clause construction is employed as a complementation strategy. It is an internal argument as it is subcategorized by its predicate. It is an adverbial clause as it owns argument structure of itself, and it is an purposive construction by their meaning. In Chapter 3, -key, -tolok, -lyeko complement constructions are classified by their syntactic properties. The syntactic criteria are (i) complementizer types, (ii) co-reference restrictions of a subject in complement clauses. With this criteria, -key, -tolok, -lyeko complement constructions classified into four type: Manipulative verb construction, Directive verb construction, non-auxiliary Deontic modality verb construction, and non-auxiliary Intentional modality verb. Chapter 4 suggests that -key, -tolok, -lyeko complement constructions refer causation complex State of Affair. Talmy(1985)’s Force-Dynamic system is applied to analyze the meaning of the construction. And it is suggested that the semantic type of -key, -tolok, -lyeko complement clauses is Potential state type(Dixon 2006). Potential state meaning is relevent with the concept of purposive constructions and irrealis mood. It concludes that there is an opposition between finite clausal complements which is marked by quotation marker -ko and non-finite clausal complement which is marked by -key, -tolok, -lyeko.;본고의 연구 대상은 ‘-게, -도록, -려고’형 절이 상위문 서술어에 의해 필수 성분이 되는 구문이다. 이러한 구문은 ‘V-게/도록/려고’ 구성이 의미적으로 주절의 의미와 독립적인 명제 내용을 지시하며, 통사적으로 이중절 구성이라는 점에서 언어유형론적 연구에서 정의한 절 보충 패턴(complementation pattern)의 범주에 포함된다. 한국어의 ‘V-게/도록/려고’ 절은 기존 연구에서 ‘동사구 보문’의 하나로서 적극적으로 다루어지지 않고 예외적이거나 주변적인 것으로 취급되어 인용절이나 명사절에 비해 그 특성이 상세히 밝혀지지 못했다. 따라서 본고에서는 ‘V-게/도록/려고’ 구문을 절 보충(complementation)의 관점에서 분석하였다. 이 연구에서 구체적으로 논의한 내용은 아래와 같다. 첫째, ‘-게/도록/려고’ 보절은 일종의 보절화 책략임을 주장하였다. 서술어에 의해 하위범주화 되므로 필수논항이고, 보절 내부에 논항구조가 존재하므로 형식적으로는 부사절(adverbial clause)이며, 의미적으로는 목적 구성(purposive)인 절 논항이다. 둘째, ‘-게/도록/려고’ 보절 구문의 형식적 특성을 기준으로 유형을 분류하였다. 이때 분류 기준이 되는 특성 보문소 결합 제약, 보절 주어의 동일지시 제약, 보절 동사의 선택 제약 자질이다. 이에 따라 조종 동사 구문, 지시 화행 구문, 의무 부과 구문, 의지적 태도 구문의 네 가지 유형을 구분하였다, 셋째, ‘-게/도록/려고’ 보절 구문은 의미적으로 사동적(causation) 복합사태를 지시한다는 특성이 있음을 밝혔다. 구문의 의미를 분석하기 위해 Talmy(1985)에서 제안된 작용역학(force-dynamic)의 체계를 차용하였다. 넷째, ‘-게/도록/려고’ 보절의 의미 유형은 잠재 사태(Potential state)를 나타내는 것으로 볼 수 있다고 주장하고, 목적(purpose), 비현실(irrealis)의 의미와의 관련성을 검토하였다. 이에 따라 한국어의 부사절이 보절로 기능할 때 정형성에 따라 인용 부사절 ‘-다/냐/자/라고’와 ‘-게, -도록, -려고’가 정형 보절과 비정형 보절의 대립을 보인다고 주장하였다.
