무용창작작품 「Epiphany」에 관한 연구

Abstract

본 논문은 2021년 6월 10일 이화여자대학교 홀 1에서 발표한 본 연구자의 무용 작품 「Epiphany」의 안무 과정과 공연까지의 전 과정을 분석하고 연구한 논문이다. 무용 작품 「Epiphany」는 헤르만 헤세의 소설 『싯타르타』에서 감명을 받아 타인에 의해 설정된 인생을 살아가기보다는 각자 고유한 삶을 살아나가는 것의 중요성을 예술적으로 담아낸 작품이다. 더불어 누구의 가르침을 통해서가 아닌 직접 체험을 통해서만 진정한 자기완성에 도달할 수 있다는 의미를 전달하고자 하였다. 이에 따라 본 논문의 서론에서는 연구의 목적과 필요성, 연구 방법 및 제한점을 밝히고, 본론에서는 무용 작품의 핵심 개념을 서술하며 무용 작품「Epiphany」에 대해 심층적으로 분석하였다. 특히 연구자는 「Epiphany」를 구성하는 예술적 요소와 움직임 표현에 중점을 두고 작품을 연구했다. 작품은 총 3장으로 구성되었고, 안무자는 각 장의 주제에 따라 조명과 움직임을 달리 구상하여 표현 요소들이 지니는 의미를 작품에 담아냈다. 1장에서는 타인이 설정해놓은 길을 순순히 따라가면서도 동시에 진정한 나의 길인가에 대한 의구심을 표현하고자 하였으며, 이를 이끌려가는 움직임과 길 조명을 통해 담아내었다. 그리고 2장에서는 타인이 설정해놓은 보편적인 길에서 벗어나 주체적인 삶을 살아가고자 하지만, 수많은 선택과 길들 속에서 갈피를 찾지 못하고 방황하는 감정을 밖으로 분출하는 움직임으로 나타내었다. 마지막 3장에서는 앞서 체험한 고유한 경험들이 결국에는 자아 성장 과정에 필수적이었음을 깨달으며, 완전하고 진정한‘나’자신을 마주한다는 미래의 희망적인 모습을 암시하며 작품을 마무리한다. 결과적으로 안무자는 무용창작작품 「Epiphany」를 통해 자신의 내면세계에 집중하여 개개인의 특색이 드러나는 길을 개척해 나아가는 것의 중요성을 전달하고, 자신만의 길을 모색하는 과정에서 겪는 순간의 중요성을 안다면 언젠가 에피파니의 순간을 맞이할 것이라는 희망적인 메시지를 전달하고자 했다. 또한 본 연구를 통해 안무자는 본인의 작품을 분석하여 예술적 가치관을 구체화 시켜봄으로써 앞으로의 안무자가 발전해야 할 방향을 조망해보는 것에 의의가 있다.;This is a thesis that analyzed and studied the whole process, from choreography to performance, of the author’s dance work「Epiphany」, presented at Hall 1 of Ewha Womans University on June 10, 2021. The dance work「Epiphany」was inspired by Hermann Hesse’s『Siddhartha』, artistically expressing the importance of living unique life of the self rather than the life decided by others. Moreover, it conveyed the message that true self-realization can only be achieved by direct experiences instead of being taught by others. Accordingly, the purpose and necessity of the study, along with the methodology and limitations were identified in introduction of this thesis, while the descriptions of the key concepts and an in-depth analysis of the dance work「Epiphany」were done in the body. In particular, the author attempted to place the focus of this study on the artistic elements and the expression of movements that「Epiphany」is composed of. While the work consists of 3 acts, the choreographer captured the meaning of expressive elements in the work by designing different movements and lightings according to the theme of each act. Act 1 attempted to express one following the path decided by others while casting doubt about whether it is truly for oneself, and this was conveyed by using light which has a shape of a path, together with movement that seems as if one is passively being pulled. In act 2, the movement of spurting out showed the confusion which arises as one endeavors to diverge from the path decided by others and live an independent life but gets lost in numerous choices and paths. Finally in act 3, one realizes that the unique experiences previously undergone were at last essential to the process of self-development, and the work ends by implying the hopeful future of meeting the true ‘self’. In conclusion, though the choreographed dance work「Epiphany」, the choreographer attempted to communicate the importance of cultivating the path that reflects individual’s characteristics by concentrating to the inner world of the self, as well as the hopeful message that the moment of epiphany will arrive if the value of moments undergone in the process of seeking the path is acknowledged. In addition, it is meaningful that the choreographer could consider the direction that one should develop in by analyzing one’s own work in this study and concretizing one’s view of art.
