Abstract

This study is centered around <Flute Sonata No.4 in F Major, K.V.13> by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart(1756-1791), <Fantaisie for Flute and Piano> by Philippe Gaubert(1879-1941), <Flute Sonata Op.167 “Undine”> by Carl Reinecke(1824-1918), and <Sonatina for Flute and Piano> by Eldin Burton(1913-1981), which were all part of the MA Graduation Recital of the researcher. <Flute Sonata No.4 in F Major, K.V.13> was composed by W. A. Mozart, one of the respresentative composers of the classical period. It is the fourth of <Six Sonatas for Keyboard with accompaniment of Violin (or Flute) and Cello, K.V.10-15>. Composed in late 1764 when W. A. Mozart was eight years old, it shows the typical characteristics of sonatas composed in the classical period. <Fantaisie for Flute and Piano> by P. Gaubert, a French composer, contains the characteristics of a fantasia while also taking great influences from Claude Debussy and Maurice Ravel, who were then-contemporary impressionist composers. It is a good display of romantic and impressionistic characteritics. <Flute Sonata Op.167 “Undine”> by German composer C. Reinecke is a program music where literature and music come together. Based on the novel Undine by Friedrich de la Motte Fouqué,“Undine”is consisted of four movements, with the musical flow of each movement describing the plot of the novel. <Sonatina for Flute and Piano> by 20th century American composer E. Burton was originally an exercise for the piano composed while he was in the Juilliard School that was rearranged as a flute sonata. It is consisted of three movements and is characterized by its neo-classical structure and impressionistic musical techniques. It won the Composition Contest of the New York Flute Club in 1948. This study aims to look into the life and musical tendencies of each composers according to the periods through their works.;본 논문은 연구자의 석사과정 졸업연주회 프로그램인 볼프강 아마데우스 모차르트(Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, 1756-1791)의 <Flute Sonata No.4 in F Major, K.V.13>, 필립 고베르(Philippe Gaubert, 1879-1941)의 <Fantaisie for Flute and Piano>, 칼 라이네케(Carl Reinecke, 1824-1918)의 <Flute Sonata Op.167 “Undine”>, 엘딘 버튼(Eldin Burton, 1913-1981)의 <Sonatina for Flute and Piano>를 중심으로 연구하였다. 고전주의 대표적인 작곡가 모차르트의 <Flute Sonata No.4 in F Major, K.V.13>은 바이올린(또는 플루트)과 첼로의 반주를 곁들인 키보드용 6개의 소나타 중 4번째 곡으로 1764년 말, 그의 나이 8세에 작곡된 작품이며 고전주의 시대 소나타 형식의 전형적인 면모를 보여준다. 프랑스 작곡가 고베르의 <Fantaisie for Flute and Piano>는 환상곡이라는 장르의 특징을 담으면서 당시 인상주의 작곡가인 드뷔시와 라벨의 영향을 많이 받아 작곡 되었는데, 낭만주의적 특징과 인상주의적 특징이 잘 드러나는 작품이다. 독일 작곡가 라이네케의 <Flute Sonata Op.167 “Undine”>는 문학과 음악이 결합된 표제가 있는 작품으로 독일의 문학가 푸케의 소설인 <Undine>를 바탕으로 작곡되었으며 모두 4개의 악장으로 구성되어 악장별로 소설의 내용이 음악의 흐름에 따라 묘사되고 있는 작품이다. 20세기 미국 작곡가 버튼의 <Sonatina for Flute and Piano>는 그의 줄리어드 음대 시절 피아노 연습곡으로 작곡한 곡을 플루트 소나타로 재편집한 작품이다. 모두 3개의 악장으로 구성되어 있으며 신고전주의의 구조와 인상주의의 음악적 기법이 보여지는 이 작품은 1948년에 ‘New York Flute Club’의 작곡 대회에서 수상하였다. 본 논문에서는 이러한 각 작곡가들의 작품을 통해 시대적 흐름에 따른 그들의 생애 및 음악적 성향을 연구하고자 한다.
