불안한 환상, 로맨스

Abstract

This paper is an argument that began with the researcher's anxiety about the feeling of love but still questioning the desire for others. Since childhood, researchers have been exposed to and educated about beautiful and noble love, so they have had vague positive fantasies about love. But several failures experienced since growth have shattered the illusion of love and created anxiety. Nevertheless, the researcher, who could not stop loving and desiring others, questioned this contradictory self-act. It was a curiosity about why he felt insecure and considered love negatively but never stopped. Therefore, this paper seeks to study the theory of desire by French psychoanalyst Jacques Lacan to understand human desire. Through Lacan's theory of desire, human desire begins with his lack, and he can understand that he has no choice but to constantly desire others because he believes that what can satisfy it exists to others, Furthermore, through the concept of "object little a", which means lack itself, and "jouissance", which is beyond the reach of pleasure, one can understand and appreciate one's desire for others even though it cannot be satisfied. Lacan also claims that the illusion of subjects can be achieved through art, and that pleasure can be obtained, based on Lacan's argument, the justification for choosing art as a research method. As distinguished by Lacan, desire can be satisfied by acts such as drinking water when thirsty, but desire can never be filled with anything. The researcher tries to bring up an uneasy fantasy of love by expressing an unfulfilled desire with art and confessing honestly inside. The researcher's work as a place of fantasy can only be viewed as a third party by bringing out "me as an object." In this paper, we investigate the lives and works of artists Tracy Emin and Sarah Lucas to effectively express and sense the researcher's own inner self and desires. This led to the study of how to express desire more frankly and boldly. In Chapter IV, "Faces of Desire", the researcher's work is introduced as a result of an advanced research process. Most of the researchers' works borrow body images. In particular, the face becomes an important factor, which is also for researchers to look at "me as an object.“ The faces expressed in the researcher's work make it possible for researchers to see themselves objectively and think more deeply and understand their desires. This makes the researcher's works a place for identifying desires and establishing identity, and expresses romance accompanied by disturbing fantasies, such as the title of the book. As such, the researcher's work process was conducted in the purpose and direction of the study to understand the anxiety of continuing desire. It was not easy to show your needs and desires honestly, but it was a meaningful and precious experience to look inside and express yourself through the research process. In addition, as in Lacan's art theory, the work process and results became a pleasant place of satisfaction, and the ever-increasing desire and the struggling desire felt like mental and physical evidence that the researcher himself could feel alive. Through this study, I thought that the desire that was not understood and felt like something to be hidden was the life force that moved the researcher's life and the driving force to continue creative activities. Therefore, I would like to emphasize the significance of this study that I will have the power to naturally desire and create.;본 논문은 연구자가 사랑이라는 감정에 대해 불안감을 느끼면서도 계속해서 타자를 욕망하는 것에 대해 의문을 가지면서 시작된 연구를 담은 논고이다. 어린 시절부터 연구자는 아름답고 고결한 사랑에 대해 접하고 교육받아왔기에 사랑에 대한 막연한 긍정적 환상을 지니고 있었다. 그러나 성장 이후 경험한 수차례의 실패는 사랑에 대한 환상을 깨뜨리고 불안감을 안겨 주었다. 그럼에도 불구하고 타인을 사랑하고 욕망하는 것을 멈출 수 없었던 연구자는, 이 모순적인 스스로의 행위에 대해 의문을 가지게 되었다. 왜 불안함을 지니고 사랑을 부정적으로 여기면서도 멈추지 않는지에 대한 호기심이었다. 따라서 본고에서는 인간의 욕망에 대해서 파악하기 위해 프랑스의 정신분석학자 자크 라캉(Jacques Lacan)의 욕망 이론을 참고하여 연구를 진행하고자 한다. 라캉의 욕망 이론을 통해 인간의 욕망은 자신의 결여로부터 시작되며, 그것을 만족시켜줄 수 있는 것이 타자에게 존재한다고 믿기에 끊임없이 타자를 욕망할 수밖에 없다는 것으로 연구자 스스로의 욕망에 대해서 이해할 수 있게 되었다. 또한 결여 자체를 의미하는 ‘대상 a’와 손에 닿지 않는 향락의 저편인 ‘주이상스’ 개념을 통하여, 충족될 수 없음에도 불구하고 타자를 욕망하는 것에 대해 이해하고 자신의 욕망을 인정할 수 있게 되었다. 또한 라캉은 예술을 통하여 주체의 환상을 펼치며 이를 통해 쾌락을 얻을 수 있다고 주장하는데, 이러한 라캉의 주장을 근거로 연구 방법으로써 예술을 선택한 것에 대한 당위성을 획득할 수 있었다. 라캉에 의해 구별된 바에 따르면, 욕구는 목이 마를 때 물을 마시는 것과 같은 행위로 충족시키는 것이 가능하지만, 욕망은 결코 어떤 무언가로 채워질 수 없다. 연구자는 충족시킬 수 없는 욕망을 예술로 표현하고 내면을 솔직히 고백함으로써 사랑에 대한 불안한 환상을 꺼내어 보고자 한다. 이 환상의 장으로서의 연구자의 작품은 ‘대상으로서의 나’를 꺼내어 비로소 제삼자의 모습으로 바라볼 수 있는 지점이 된다. 본 논고에서는 연구자 자신의 내면과 욕망을 효과적으로 표현하고 감각하기 위하여 예술가 ‘트레이시 에민(Tracy Emin)’과 ‘사라 루카스(Sarah Lucas)’의 삶과 작품을 조사한다. 이로써 보다 솔직하고 과감하게 욕망을 표현하는 방법을 연구하였다. 제 Ⅳ장 <욕망의 얼굴들>에서 발전된 연구 과정의 결과물로 연구자의 작품을 소개한다. 연구자의 작품들은 대부분 신체 이미지를 차용한 형태이다. 특히 얼굴이 중요한 요소가 되는데, 이는 연구자가 ‘대상으로서의 나’를 바라보기 위한 것이기도 하다. 연구자의 작품에 표현된 얼굴들은 연구자가 자신을 객관적으로 보고 욕망에 대해서 더욱 깊이 생각하고 이해할 수 있도록 만든다. 이로써 연구자의 작품들은 욕망을 파악하고 주체성을 확립하기 위한 장소가 되며, 본고의 제목과 같이 불안한 환상을 동반하는 로맨스에 대해 표현한다. 이와 같이 연구자의 작업 과정은 계속되는 욕망의 불안함을 이해하고자 하는 연구의 목적과 방향성 속에서 진행되었다. 욕구와 욕망을 솔직하게 드러내는 것은 쉽지 않은 일이었지만, 연구 과정을 통해 스스로의 내면을 들여다보고 표현하는 것은 의미 있고 소중한 경험이었다. 또한 라캉의 예술론에서처럼 작업 과정과 결과물은 즐거운 만족의 장소가 되기도 하였고, 끊임없이 생겨나는 욕구와 몸부림치듯 움직이는 욕망은 연구자 스스로가 살아있다고 느낄 수 있는 정신적, 육체적인 증거처럼 느껴지기도 했다. 본 연구를 통해 이해되지 않고 감추어야 할 무언가처럼 느껴졌던 욕망이 연구자의 생을 움직이는 생명력이며 창작 활동을 지속할 수 있는 원동력이라고 생각하게 되었다. 이에 앞으로도 자연스럽게 욕망하며 창작하고자 할 수 있는 힘을 지니게 되었다는 것에 본 연구의 의의를 두고자 한다.
