시듬과 피어남, 경계에서 발견한 생명력

Abstract

본 연구는 시든 잎을 꽃으로 착각했던 경험 이후 시든 식물에 관심을 갖게 되면서 시든 식물을 오랜 시간 관찰하게 되고, 그 속에서 발견하게 된 생명력을 시각화하기 위한 일련의 연구를 담고 있다. 개인적인 경험을 바탕으로 시든 식물이라는 소재를 매력적으로 느끼고 작업의 중요한 소재로 사용하게 되면서, 시든 식물의 형상을 세밀하게 표현하는 것으로 본인이 경험한 것과 같은 매력적인 시각적 경험을 전달하고자 했다. 하지만 작품 속에는 단순히 시든 식물의 형상만이 남게 되는 한계점을 인식하게 되었고, 이후 대상을 오랜 시간 관찰하면서 식물이 완전히 시들고 난 후에도 계속해서 변화하는 모습을 보게 되었다. 시든 식물의 형상 그 이면에서, 실제로 보이지는 않지만 대상 속에 내재된 또다른 생명력을 발견하게 되면서 마치 잔상처럼 남은 생명력을 포착하게 되었다. 이렇게 발견한 생명력은 단순히 대상의 형상을 있는 그대로 그리는 것만으로는 표현하기 어렵다고 판단했고, 생명력에 대한 기존의 연구를 살펴봄과 동시에 생명력을 표현할 수 있는 방법에 대한 연구의 필요성을 인식했다. 삶과 죽음은 다르지 않고 ‘기(氣)’를 매개로 넘나드는 동일한 것으로 보았던 장자의 자연관을 통해 반대의 개념이라고 생각했던 삶과 죽음을 동일선상에서 인식하게 되면서, 시든 식물이라는 대상을 단순히 죽은 것으로 바라보기 보다 그 안에 잔상처럼 사라지지 않는 생명력을 내재하고 있는 대상으로 인식하게 되었다. 시든 식물을 생명력을 내재한 존재로 인식하고 대상을 통해 새로운 차원의 생명력을 표현할 수 있음을 깨닫게 되면서, 생명력을 가시적으로 표현하기 위한 방법의 하나로 오랜 시간 수집한 시든 식물 이미지를 재구성해 새로운 형상을 만들게 되었다. 이렇게 만들어낸 이미지 속 형상을 유기체로 인식하고 화이트헤드의 철학에서 언급하는 ‘생성을 이루고 소멸하면서 다시금 생성을 이루는 영속적 관념적 매개체’ 로서 바라보고자 한다. 화이트헤드의 유기체 철학을 통해 화면 속 새롭게 만들어진 대상을 계속해서 변화할 수 있으면서 그 과정 속에서 존재하는 유기체로 인식하게 되었음을 밝히고자 한다. 본인이 발견한 시든 식물의 형상 속 내재된 생명력을 시각화 하는 것이 작업의 주요한 목표가 되면서, 시든 식물이라는 대상을 통해 생명력을 가시화할 수 있는 표현방법 연구에 몰두하게 되었다. 생명력을 표현하기 위한 주요한 표현 요소로 ‘재구성’과 ‘색’을 사용해 시든 식물 속에서 발견한 잔상과 같은 생명력을 새롭게 만들어낸 형상을 통해 표현하고자 하였다. 시든 식물의 형상 속에서 비롯된 그 이면 속의 끊임없는 변화를 생명력으로 인식하고, 시든 식물의 이미지를 재구성해 새롭게 만들어 낸 형상을 유기체로서 인식함으로 본인이 발견한 생명력을 표현하고자 한 것을 살펴보고자 한다.;This thesis describes a study of visualizing the vitality found through withered plants. Based on the experience of mistaking withered leaves for flowers, it contains a series of studies to visualize the new levels of vitality discovered through withered plants. Feeling withered plants as an attractive material and using them as an important material for working process, I tried to convey the same attractive visual experience by expressing the shape of a withered plant in detail. However, I recognized the limitations of paintings that just leaving the shape of a withered plant on screen, and after a long period of observation, and after a long period of observation, I saw it continue to change even after plant completely withered. Through the natural view of the Zhuangzi who saw life and death as the same thing as crossing the ‘Gi(氣)’ like energy, life and death, which he thought was the opposite concept, were recognized on the same line. Based on that thought, the object of withered plants was not simply recognized as dead, but as embedded in a never-ending vitality. Realizing that a new level of life can be expressed through objects that are perceived to be inherent in vitality, photos of withered plants collected in the past have been reconstructed to create new images. A new image was created using withered plant images to express vitality visually. The object in this image was recognized as an organism through whitehead's philosophy, and the newly created object on the screen was recognized as an organism that could continue to change. Visualizing the inherent vitality in the shape of a withered plant that found has become the main goal of the work process, it has become absorbed in the study of expression methods that can visualize life through the object of a withered plant. By using 'reorganization' and 'color' as the main expression elements for expressing vitality, I sought to visualize life forces, such as the remnants found in withered plants. I would like to see what I have discovered by recognizing the constant change in the shape of a withered plant as a vitality and recognizing the newly created shape by reconstructing the image of a withered plant as an organism.
