중국 창원 동굴벽화 이미지를 응용한 패션디자인 연구

Abstract

China's Cangyuan cave paintings are relics that attract attention as world-class cave paintings discovered in China. The discovery of the cave paintings in Cangyuan also played a large role in the discovery of ethnographic archaeological data, allowing the study of the history, religion and culture of ancient peoples in the frontier region in southwestern China, and providing new image data. This study, which intends to apply the image of cave murals in Cangyuan, China to fashion design, aims to study how to apply it as the source of today's fashion design by observing and analyzing images containing human expressions thousands of years ago. In particular, in the process of creation resulting from fashion design, a major expression technique is required to develop designs using the image of cave murals as a motif. As a method of finding and applying the image characteristics of cave murals, a planar cave mural image can be clearly expressed. Appliqué technique was adopted. The contents and methods of this study are as follows. A theoretical review of cave paintings in Cangyuan, China was developed. Materials for this were collected through methods such as previous thesis, press releases, related professional books and field trips. In particular, we did our best to secure research and photographic data on the cave murals in Cangyuan. The image characteristics of the Cangyuan cave murals were derived by collecting and analyzing as much as possible the works of the ethnic archaeologist Wang Ningsheng, the actual discoverer, and related materials. Also, as a fashion design study, we collected and analyzed cave wall painting application designs through existing fashion collections. On the other hand, a theoretical review of the applique technique was developed. The concept and history of appliqué were identified, and the types and characteristics of appliqué techniques were investigated. By analyzing cases of application of appliqué designs appearing in contemporary fashion collections, and identifying specific materials and methods, the foundation for work research was laid. Based on the above theoretical considerations, a fashion design was planned that applied the image of the Cangyuan cave paintings. The overall design direction was set by selecting the motifs that best reflect the characteristics of the Cangyuan cave mural image, and the applique technique, shape, color, and material were planned to produce a total of five fashion design works. The conclusions obtained through the theoretical consideration of this paper are as follows. First, when investigating cave murals based on the world's human history, research on cave murals centered on Europe is focused, and research on some famous caves is concentrated, so the necessity of research on cave murals in Asia was confirmed . In particular, the necessity of excavating and preserving artistic source data for cave murals in Asia was confirmed in the culture and art base. Second, as a result of analyzing the image elements of the cave murals in Cangyuan, China, it was possible to categorize three elements, including people, animals, and situations. Among the most interesting categories, situations are those that can be referred to as scenes, and various elements such as characters, animals, tools, and symbols are composed together so that you can read the daily life of primitive society. Third, as a result of analyzing the image characteristics of the cave murals in Cangyuan, China, a total of five characteristics such as purity, dynamism, simplicity, flatness, and exaggeration could be summarized. These include the purity that expresses primitive life, the dynamism of life and the dynamism of the expression method, the simplicity encompassing content and visual expression, the flatness that stands out in the formative aspect, and the exaggeration that is emphasized along with the symbol. Fourth, the appliqué technique was adopted for the purpose of clearly realizing the mural image as a fashion design expression technique applied to cave paintings. It has been confirmed that the appliqué technique freely composes a flat image and has been applied in various ways in recent fashion collections, and it is widely used to express both natural objects and symbolic objects. The conclusions obtained through work design research are as follows. First, to clearly emphasize the image characteristics of the cave paintings, a costume silhouette, such as a canvas of a large area, was planned, which enabled researchers to act like the artist's work that composes the mural. It was able to dynamically compose images with purity across the entire dress. Second, by emphasizing the color contrast by developing black, white, and gray as main colors, a strong visual effect could be expressed in image expression. As such, the contrast of lightness was particularly suitable for expressing the simplicity and flatness of the Cangyuan cave murals. Third, it was very effective in expressing the appliqué technique as it did not require end treatment by using pig leather suede for appliqué decoration. In the process of freely cutting each shape, the purity and dynamics of the Changyuan cave mural image could be emphasized and expressed. Fourth, the contents expressed by the appliqué decoration correspond to the figures, animals, and various situations such as hunting, war, dancing, catching, and grazing in the cave murals in Cangyuan. By changing the size and quantity of various image elements, it is interesting to see distance, etc. Visual effects could be implemented. In particular, it was possible to emphasize the dynamics and exaggeration of the original image of the Cangyuan cave murals. Fifth, when attaching the images decorated with the appliqué technique to the clothes, the decorative effect could be expressed in a variety of ways depending on which part and how to attach them, stacking one or several layers. Sixth, in the process of freely expressing the appliqué technique according to the artist's intention, it was possible to express the characteristics of the contingency of the appliqué technique. Depending on the characteristics of the appliqué that can create a different image each time depending on how it is combined without being bound by strict conventions and norms, it is possible to give each work a diverse and entertaining personality, which is particularly suitable for expressing the purity of the Changyuan cave paintings. This study, which attempted to apply the image of Cangyuan cave murals to fashion design as an important historical data of human history, had limitations in collecting perfect image data in the process of observing murals painted thousands of years ago. There is a limitation in progress. As a result, it is possible to recognize the importance of discovering historical data and converting it into a material that can be used practically, and there is also an expectation that more historical data will serve as a rich source of design based on future technologies. We hope that this study will serve as an opportunity to discover the artistic source of ancient relics in Asia, including cave paintings in Cangyuan, China. We hope that more and more cultural heritages from the past will be the product of experience and inspiration to look back on contemporary design. We look forward to contributing as a rich text that can be obtained.;중국의 창원 동굴벽화는 중국에서 발견된 세계적 동굴벽화로서 주목받는 유적이다. 창원 동굴벽화의 발견은 민족고고학 자료 발굴로서도 큰 역할을 하여 중국 서남 변강 지역 고대 민족의 역사, 종교와 문화를 연구하게 하고 새로운 이미지 자료를 제공했다. 중국 창원의 동굴벽화 이미지를 패션디자인에 응용하고자 하는 본 연구는 수천 년 전 인류의 표현이 담긴 이미지들을 관찰하고 분석함으로써 오늘날의 패션디자인 원천으로 응용하는 방법에 대해 연구하고자 한다. 특히 패션디자인을 결과로 하는 창작의 과정 중 동굴벽화 이미지를 모티프로 삼아 디자인을 전개하기 위한 표현기법으로서 평면형의 이미지를 개성적으로 표현할 수 있는 아플리케 기법을 채택하였다. 본 연구의 내용 및 방법은 다음과 같다. 중국 창원 동굴벽화에 관한 이론적 고찰을 전개하였다. 이를 위한 자료들은 선행논문, 보도자료, 관련 전문서적과 현지답사 등의 방법을 통해 수집하였다. 특히 창원 동굴벽화에 대한 연구자료 및 사진자료 확보에 최선을 다하였다. 실제 발굴자인 민족고고학자 왕닝성의 저술들 및 관련 자료들을 최대한 수집하고 분석하여 창원 동굴벽화의 이미지 특성을 도출하였다. 또한 패션디자인 연구로서 기존의 패션 컬렉션을 통해 동굴벽화 응용 디자인을 수집하고 분석하였다. 한편 아플리케 기법에 대한 이론적 고찰을 전개하였다. 아플리케의 개념과 역사를 파악하였고 아플리케 기법의 종류와 특성을 조사하였다. 현대의 패션컬렉션 중에 등장하는 아플리케 디자인들을 활용한 사례를 분석하고 구체적 소재와 방법을 파악하여 작품 연구에 대한 기반을 마련하였다. 이상의 이론적 고찰을 바탕으로 창원 동굴벽화 이미지를 응용한 패션디자인을 계획하였다. 창원 동굴벽화 이미지 특성을 가장 잘 반영할 수 있는 모티프들을 선정함으로써 전체적인 디자인 방향을 설정하고 아플리케 기법 및 형태, 색채, 소재 등을 계획하여 패션디자인 작품 총 5벌을 제작하였다. 본 논문의 이론적 고찰을 통해 얻은 결론을 서술하면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 전 세계 인류사를 기반으로 동굴벽화에 대하여 조사했을 때, 유럽 중심의 동굴벽화 연구가 치중되어 있고 특히 몇몇의 유명 동굴에 대한 연구가 집중된 상황이므로 아시아 지역의 동굴벽화에 대한 연구 필요성을 확인하였다. 특히 문화예술 기반에서 아시아 지역 내 동굴벽화 예술적 원천자료의 체계적 보존과 활용이 필요하다. 둘째, 중국 창원 동굴벽화의 이미지 구성요소를 분석한 결과 인물, 동물, 상황 등 총 세 가지의 요소별 분류가 가능하였다. 분류 중 가장 흥미로운 항목으로서 상황은 장면이라고도 일컬어질 수 있을만한 것들인데 원시사회의 일상적 삶을 읽을 수 있도록 인물, 동물, 도구, 기호 등 다양한 요소들이 함께 구성되어 있다. 셋째, 중국 창원 동굴벽화의 이미지 특성을 분석한 결과 순수성, 역동성, 단순성, 평면성, 과장성 등 총 다섯 가지의 특성을 정리할 수 있었다. 원시적 삶을 표현한 순수성, 삶에 대한 생동감 및 표현 방법에 나타난 역동성, 내용과 시각적 표현 등을 아우르는 단순성, 조형적 측면에서 두드러지는 평면성, 상징과 더불어 강조되는 과장성 등이 이에 해당한다. 넷째, 동굴벽화 응용의 패션디자인 표현 기법으로서 벽화 이미지를 뚜렷하게 구현하기 위한 목적으로 아플리케 기법을 채택하였는데 아플리케 기법은 평면의 이미지를 자유롭게 구성하면서 최근의 패션컬렉션에서도 다채롭게 응용되고 있음을 확인하였고 자연물 표현 혹은 상징물 표현 모두를 폭넓게 아우르며 활용되고 있다. 작품디자인 연구를 통해 얻은 결론은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 동굴벽화의 이미지 특성을 뚜렷하게 강조할 수 있도록 넓은 면적의 화폭과 같은 의상 실루엣을 계획하였는데, 이는 연구자로 하여금 벽화를 구성하는 예술가의 작업과 같은 행위를 가능하게 하였다. 드레스 전체를 가로지르며 순수성을 가진 이미지들을 역동적으로 구성할 수 있었다. 둘째, 검은색, 흰색, 회색을 주요 색채로 전개하여 색채 대비를 강조함으로써 이미지 표현에 있어 강한 시각적 효과를 나타낼 수 있었다. 이렇듯 명도의 대비는 특히 창원 동굴벽화가 가지는 단순성과 평면성 표현에 적합하였다. 셋째, 아플리케 장식에 돈피 스웨이드를 소재로 사용함으로써 끝단 처리가 필요 없어 아플리케 기법을 표현하는데 있어서 매우 효과적이었다. 각각의 모양을 자유롭게 자르는 과정에서 창원 동굴벽화 이미지가 가지는 순수성과 역동성 등이 강조되어 표현될 수 있었다. 넷째, 아플리케 장식으로 표현되는 내용들이 창원 동굴벽화의 인물, 동물, 그리고 수렵, 전쟁, 무용, 잡기, 방목 등 다양한 상황 등에 해당하는데, 다채로운 이미지 요소들의 크기와 수량에 변화를 주어 구성함으로써 거리감 등 흥미로운 시각적 효과를 구현할 수 있었다. 특히 창원 동굴벽화 원형 이미지가 갖는 역동성과 과장성을 강조할 수 있었다. 다섯째，아플리케 기법으로 장식된 이미지들을 의상에 부착함에 있어 어떤 부분에 어떻게 부착하는가, 한 겹 혹은 여러 겹 쌓아 부착하는가에 따라서 장식적 효과를 다채롭게 표현할 수 있었다. 여섯째, 작가 의도에 따라 아플리케 기법을 자유롭게 표현하는 과정에서 아플리케 기법이 갖는 우연성의 특성 표현이 가능하였다. 엄격한 관례와 규범에 얽매이지 않으면서 어떻게 조합하는가에 따라 매번 다른 이미지를 만들어갈 수 있는 아플리케의 특성에 따라 각 작품에 다양하며 유희적인 개성을 부여할 수 있었고 이는 특히 창원 동굴벽화가 가지는 순수성 표현에 적합하였다. 인류사의 중요한 역사적 자료로서 창원 동굴벽화 이미지를 패션디자인에 응용하고자 했던 본 연구는 수천 년 전에 그려진 벽화를 관찰하는 과정에서 완벽한 이미지 자료 수집의 한계점이 있었고 이를 극복하기 위하여 발굴자의 도안에 의존하여 분석을 진행한 점에서 한계점을 갖는다. 이에 역사적 자료의 발굴과 실제적 활용이 가능한 자료화의 중요성을 인식할 수 있는 한편, 앞으로 발전하는 기술에 기반하여 보다 많은 역사적 자료들이 풍요로운 디자인 원천으로 역할을 하게 될 것이라는 기대감 또한 갖게 된다. 본 연구가 중국 창원 동굴벽화를 비롯하여 아시아 지역의 고대 유적물에 대한 예술적 원천 발굴 기회로서 하나의 작은 계기가 되기를 바라며 앞으로도 더 많은 과거의 문화유산들이 현대의 디자인을 돌아볼 수 있는 경험의 산물이자 영감을 얻을 수 있는 풍성한 텍스트로서 기여할 수 있기를 기대한다.
