무용작품 「조각」에 관한 연구

Abstract

본 논문은 2020년 6월 11일 이화여자대학교 체육관 홀 Ⅰ에서 발표한 본 연구자의 한국무용 창작작품 「조각」을 안무하는 과정과 공연작품을 구체적으로 연구하고 분석한 논문이다. 본 논문의 서론을 통해 연구의 목적과 필요성, 연구방법을 밝히고 본론을 통해 작품의 핵심 개념 서술과 작품 「조각」의 구체적인 연구와 분석이 이루어진다. 은희경의 소설 『빛의 과거』를 바탕으로 창작된 「조각」의 연구는 소설에 관한 간략한 소개, 안무자 소개, 안무 의도 그리고 작품 분석으로 나뉘며, 그중에서도 특히 작품 「조각」의 분석은 작품을 구성하는 예술적 요소에 관한 분석과 움직임의 심층분석으로 구분하여 주제의식이 형상화되는 과정을 더욱 집중적으로 기술하고자 하였다. 무용작품의 안무 의도는 다음과 같다. 안무자는 본인의 편견에 사로잡혀 편협한 시선으로 타인을 있는 그대로 받아들이지 못하고 비판하는 모습을 문제점으로 제기했다. 이의 원인을 서로 간의 가치관 차이로 판단하였고, 그 틀에서 벗어나 자기 자신뿐만 아니라 타인의 가치관까지도 수용할 수 있게 되어 상대방을 있는 그대로 받아들이는 태도와 신념을 갖길 바라는 데 있다. 소설 『빛의 과거』의 줄거리는 타인의 가치관이 존재함을 인지하는 모습을 그리고 있다. 더 나아가 안무자는 타인을 이해하고 수용하는 이타적인 모습까지 보여줌으로써 무용수와 관객 모두에게 행복감, 만족감 등 희망적인 메시지를 전달하고자 했다. 1장 <바라보다>에서는 소설 속 주인공 ‘나’가 타인의 입장은 배제한 채 자신의 시각에서 바라본 과거의 기억을 돌이켜보는 과정으로써 개인주의 성향이 강한 이기적인 현대인의 모습을 담아내었다. 1장에서는 소설 속 1977년 과거의 기억을 회상하는 내용을 표현하고자 하여 최대한 정적이면서 무거운 느낌의 움직임을 사용하였고 자신의 가치관에 사로잡혀 모든 기준이 본인에게만 집중되어 있는 모습을 나타내고자 하였다. 2장인 <직면하다>에서는 소설의 주인공 ‘나’가 타인과의 대화를 통해 비록 같은 시간을 공유하였지만 타인은 ‘나’와 다르게 과거를 기억하고 있음을 알게 된다. ‘내가 기억하는 나’와 ‘타인이 기억하는 나’사이의 이질감으로 인해 타인과 의견이 대립하고 그 속에서 주인공이 겪는 혼란스러운 감정을 표현하였다. 마지막 장인 3장 <존재하다>에서는 소설 속 주인공 ‘나’를 통해 안무자의 가치관이 전환되어 이타적인 입장으로서 타인의 가치관을 인정하고 수용하는 자세를 보여준다. 오브제를 자유롭게 넘나드는 것은 물론이고 무용수가 오브제를 직접적으로 만지고 쓰다듬는 동작을 추가하여 음악은 여성 구음이 나오는 느린 멜로디의 피아노 음악을 사용하여 관객들이 잔잔하게 이 작품의 분위기에 빠져들 수 있도록 의도했다. 결론적으로 안무자는 작품 「조각」을 통해 타인과 나 사이의 가치관 차이를 인정하고 포용해야 함을 느꼈으며, 이타적 관점에서 바라보고자 하는 의식의 전환을 무용작품 「조각」을 통해 말하고자 한다. 또한, 본 연구를 통해 연구자의 작품을 스스로 분석하여 자아성찰의 기회로 삼고 안무자의 예술적 가치관을 확립한 것에 의의를 둔다.;This thesis presents with a research on「Piece」, the researcher’s choreographed work of Korean dance performed on 11 June 2020 at Ewha Womans University Physical Education Building Hall 1. It analysed and studied in detail the overall process of choreographing and the outcome. The introduction of this thesis reveals the purpose and necessity of the research, as well as the methodology, while the description of the key concepts of the work and detailed study and analysis of it happens in the main body. The research on 「Piece」, which is created based on Eun Heekyung’s novel 『The Light’s Past』, consists of a brief introduction on the novel, the introduction on the choreographer, the intention of the choreography and the analysis of the work. In particular, the analysis of the work 「Piece」is divided into the analysis of the artistic elements that compose the work, and an in depth analysis of the movements, such that the process of embodying the theme is intensively described. The intention of the choreography of the dance work is as follows. The choreographer raised a problem of people, dictated by their own prejudice, not being able to accept others as who they are but condemning them in a narrow minded view. The differences in the values among people were deemed to be the reason for this, and it is hoped that people become accepting of not only their own but also of others’and thus hold a belief and attitude of accepting others for who they are. Instead of merely ending with the recognition that there exists the values of others like the summary of the novel, the choreographer went further by displaying the altruistic image of understanding and accepting others, thereby gaining happiness and satisfaction in relationships, and intended to deliver this hopeful message both to the dancer and the audience. Act 1 <Look> is the stage where the protagonist of the novel and recalls the memory of the past solely in one’s own perspective but not in others’, and shows the egoism of modern people who have a strong tendency towards individualism. In Act 1, movements that are as static and heavy as possible were used to portray the scene in the novel of reminiscing about the year 1977. It was also attempted to portray one, dictated by one’s own values, only adhering to self-established standards. In Act 2, <Confront> through a conversation with someone else, the protagonist of the novel realizes that although the same days were shared, the person remembers it in a different way. There is a conflict of opinions due to the discrepancy between‘I remembered by myself’and ‘I remembered by others’, and the confusion that the protagonist experiences in the midst of it was expressed. The last act Act 3 <Exist> shows the attitude of acknowledging and accepting others’ values from an altruistic standpoint as the values of the choreographer changes through the protagonist of the novel. Not only the movement of moving across the objet, but also that of directly stroking and touching it were added, and slow piano melody with a female voice was played such that the audience are gently immersed in the mood of the work. In conclusion, through 「Piece」, the choregrapher felt the need to acknowledge and embrace the differences in values between oneself and others, as well as intends to suggest the shift in awareness to one that seeks to have a selfless standpoint. In addition, it is significant that by analysing one’s own work, the researcher had an opportunity of self-reflection, and has established artistic values.
