Abstract

본 논문은 필자의 석사과정 이수를 위한 졸업 리사이틀 프로그램 중 리하르트 슈트라우스 (Richard Strauss, 1864-1949)의 『Vier Lieder, Op. 27 (4개의 노래)』와 요하네스 브람스 (Johannes Brahms, 1833-1897)의 『Vier Gesänge, Op. 43 (4개의 노래)』에 대한 분석연구이다. 슈트라우스의 『Vier Lieder, Op. 27 (4개의 노래)』 중 제1곡 「Ruhe, meine Seele (쉬어라, 내 영혼아)」, 제2곡 「Cäcilie (체칠리에)」, 제3곡 「Heimliche Aufforderung (은밀한 초대)」을 다루었으며 브람스의 『Vier Gesänge, Op. 43 (4개의 노래)』 중 제1곡 「Von ewiger Liebe (영원한 사랑에 대하여)」, 제2곡 「Die Mainacht (5월의 밤)」을 다루었다. 후기 낭만주의 작곡가인 슈트라우스는 부인 파울리네 (Pauline de Ahna, 1862-1950) 에게 결혼식 날, 작품『Vier Lieder, Op. 27 (4개의 노래)』를 헌정했다. 슈트라우스는 이 작품에서 동시대 시인의 시에 곡을 붙였으며, 곡의 분위기와 가사를 효과적으로 표현하기 위한 잦은 조성의 변화와 반음계 등의 사용이 두드러진다. 또한, 폭넓은 선율 진행과 화려한 반주의 형태를 사용하여 관현악적이고 오페라적인 가곡의 형태로 독일 후기 낭만주의의 음악적 특징이 잘 드러나는 것을 알 수 있다. 브람스는 낭만주의 작곡가이지만 보수적인 경향을 띄고 있다. 곡의 표현에 따라 전형적인 낭만주의의 음악적 특징이 나타나기도 하지만 브람스는 기본적으로 단순하며 안정감있는 고전적인 기법들로 가곡을 작곡하였다. 또한, 그는 가곡을 작곡할 때 성악 선율을 매우 중요시 여겼으며 이로 인해 반주부 또한 성악 선율을 주로 뒷받침해주는 역할을 한다. 이러한 브람스의 음악적 특징은『Vier Gesänge, Op. 43 (4개의 노래)』의 제1곡 「Von ewiger Liebe (영원한 사랑에 대하여)」과 제2곡 「Die Mainacht (5월의 밤)」에서 매우 뚜렷하게 나타난다.;This paper is an analysis study of 『Vier Lieder, Op. 27 (four songs)』by Richard Strauss (1864-1949) and 『Vier Gesänge, Op. 43 (four songs)』by Johannes Brahms(1833-1897) for graduation recital program. This study discussed the first song 「Ruhe, meine Seele」, the second song 「Cäcilie」, and the third song 「Heimliche Aufforderung」 from 『Vier Lieder, Op. 27 (four songs)』by Strauss, and also the first song 「Von ewiger Liebe」 and the second song 「Die Mainacht」 from 『Vier Gesänge, Op.43 (four songs)』 by Brahms. Strauss who was a composer of post-romanticism dedicated his work 『Vier Lieder, Op. 27 (four songs)』 to his wife, Pauline de Ahna(1862-1950) on their wedding day. Strauss set some poems by contemporary poets to this work, and he remarkably used chromatic scales and frequent modulation in order to effectively express the mood and lyrics of the music. Also, its orchestral and opera-like song style using the extensive melody and splendid accompaniment fully shows the musical characteristics of post-romanticism in Germany. Brahms who was a composer of romanticism tried hard to keep the tradition of classical period. When composing songs, Brahms regarded the overall flow of music and musical expression as more important rather than concrete expression of poems. In the part of music, he especially regarded the vocal melody as important. Also, the frequent repetition of vocal melody gives a sense of unity to music, and the accompaniment usually supports the vocal melody rather than being performed independently. Thus, his songs characteristically show the short prelude, and also frequently show broken chords in the accompaniment. Such musical characteristics of Brahms are very clearly shown in the first song 「Von ewiger Liebe」 and the second song 「Die Mainacht」 of his 『Vier Gesänge, Op. 43 (four songs)』.
