고등학교 한국사 교과서의 임진왜란 관련 내용 분석

Abstract

임진왜란(1592년~1598년)은 우리나라 역사에 큰 의미와 흔적을 남긴 전쟁이다. 이전 시기의 일본 침략이 소규모, 단기간, 다발적이었다면 임진왜란은 7년에 걸친 국가 간의 대규모 전쟁이자 명나라까지 참전한 동북아시아의 국제 전쟁이었다. 그리고 이 전쟁은 300여 년 후 일제의 식민지배와 더불어 뿌리 깊은 반일감정을 생성한 역사적 사건이다. 현재 우리나라는 일본과 중국 등 강대국들 사이에 생존하기 위해 고군분투하던 조선시대와 비슷한 상황이라고 볼 수 있다. 이러한 상황에서 임진왜란과 일제강점기와 같은 사건들을 교훈으로 삼아 아픈 역사가 반복되지 않도록 노력해야 한다. 그동안 임진왜란은 역사적 중요성에 비해 역사학계의 연구가 그다지 활발하지 못했다고 알려져 왔다. 그러나 해방 이후 지금까지 적지 않은 연구 성과가 집적된 것이 사실이다. 아직까지 임진왜란을 전반적으로 분석한 개설서조차 없는 한계는 있지만, 이것이 고등학교 한국사 교과서의 임진왜란 서술이 부실한 이유가 될 수는 없다. 이러한 상황에서 미래의 주역이 될 고등학생들에게 임진왜란에 대한 적절한 교육이 이루어지고 있는가를 살펴보기 위해 먼저 임진왜란에 대한 학계의 연구 성과를 살펴보고, 2015 개정 교육과정의 역사(한국사) 과목의 교육 목표, 교과서 집필 기준 등을 살펴보았다. 나아가 2015 개정 고등학교 『한국사』 교과서의 임진왜란 관련 내용을 분석하고, 그 한계점을 제시한 뒤, 임진왜란에 대한 바람직한 교과서를 위한 대안을 제시해 보았다. 현실적으로 교과서의 분량을 고려할 때 관련된 모든 내용을 서술할 수는 없을 것이다. 하지만 임진왜란을 제대로 이해하고 임진왜란이라는 전쟁을 통해 교훈을 얻을 수 있는 교과서 서술이 되려면, 전쟁의 원인부터, 주요 경과, 전쟁의 결과 및 영향, 전쟁으로 인한 피해 및 그 외에 전쟁에서 활약한 인물 등 다양한 내용을 적절히 소개하는 서술이 되어야 할 것이다. 나아가 그러한 교과서 서술을 통해 교사들에게 다양한 내용을 다룰 수 있는 지도안을 만드는 것이 가능한 환경이 주어져야 할 것이다.;The Japanese invasion of Korea (1592-1598) was a significant war which left a lasting impact. As opposed to the previous Japanese invasions, which were small-scale and short-lived, this war was a seven year international war in the East Asian region which the Ming Dynasty took part in. Also, the war is considered a major historic event as it availed three hundred years of Japanese colonization and was the catalyst for deeply rooted anti-Japanese sentiments. It's possible to say that currently, Korea is much like the Chosun Dynasty in its solitary struggle to survive among superpowers like China and Japan. That is one of the reasons why it is important to view historical events like the Japanese colonization as a lesson to prevent such painful occurrences from repeating. It has been known that, despite its historical significance, vigorous research on the war wasn't conducted by the academics of history. However, it is true that considerable amounts of research have been accumulated since the liberation. Although the research done on the war is still insufficient to produce an introductory textbook, this can't be the reason why the war is covered so poorly in high school textbooks. High school students will take on major roles in the future. To see if proper education on the war is being conducted for them, we, under the described circumstances, first looked at the achievements on the study of the war, the education goals of the 2015 revised history (Korean history) curriculum, and the textbook writing standard. Furthermore, we analyzed the contents of the 2015 revised high school [Korean History] texbook relevant to the war, presented its limitations, and proposed alternatives for suitable textbooks covering the war. Realistically, considering the volume of the textbook, it wouldn't be feasible to depict every piece of relevant information. For a textbook's contents to make a reader properly understand and learn lessons from the war, it should appropriately introduce the cause of the war, main events, results and effects, the damages caused, and figures who played active parts in the war. Furthermore, the circumstances should be given to enable teachers to create lesson plans using the textbook's contents to handle various information.
