Abstract
This textbook aims to help Korean EFL students to develop the four language skills through Roald Dahl’s books. The sample chapter contains a variety of meaningful activities related to the stories which allow students to discover the joy of reading and increase their motivation to engage in extensive reading. The target learners are approximately eight to ten high school students in Korea, mixed gender. Their proficiency level is Intermediate-high according to the ACTFL, and the learning context is an afterschool English language program. communicative language teaching (CLT), task based language teaching (TBLT), and extensive reading (ER) methods are used for effective second language (L2) instruction. By learning English with this textbook, students will develop a positive attitude and motivation for reading. Moreover, they will increase their English skills (reading, listening, speaking, writing) through various activities. In addition to developing the four language skills, students will learn about the target culture through ER. Furthermore, engaging in ER will help with character development as students learn to empathize with the characters of the story.
