- Abstract
- This textbook was designed to emphasize practical speaking skills for students in Korea who are preparing to study abroad in the United States. This textbook will emphasize and promote speaking skills, while also providing integrated practice with the other major skills. The target learners are 10-15 university-aged students, who are Intermediate High level learners. An ideal context would be a university in Korea, with learners who are preparing to study abroad in the United States. This book will primarily use a Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) approach. Following this approach, the activities and tasks in the book will motivate students to speak by providing multiple opportunities to communicate about topics of personal interest and relevance to the students. This book combines a CLT approach with Task-Based Language Teaching (TBLT). The sample chapter follows a modified task cycle, designed to scaffold students’ productive language use by providing controlled practice activities and form-function modeling. This will then enable students to successfully complete the final communicative task at the end of the chapter.
