- Abstract
- This textbook is designed to teach English by encouraging students to read chapter books, which are written by four different writers: Jeff Brown, Sara Pennypacker, Francesca Simon, and Judy Blume and developing their productive skills-speaking and writing; in addition, critical thinking will be enhanced. The target leaners are middle school students (8thand 9thgrade) whose language proficiency level is intermediate high according to ACFTL proficiency guidelines. There are 10-12 students of mixed gender in an afterschool English reading program which takes place twice a week for 90 minutes throughout the course of two semester, totaling 80 hours. ER is the primary method for this textbook but Task-based Language Teaching (TBLT), Communicative language Teaching (CLT), and Cooperative Language learning (CLL) will also be incorporated into it to help students to foster their English productive skills though diverse interactive, collaborative activities and tasks while developing critical thinking and a habit of reading extensively.
